  • "Lovely boutique Cotswold 3 story mini- town house in central village location - perfect for exploring Cotswolds."

Historial features with immaculate, adorable interiors, brand new kitchen and owners kitted out the kitchen with quality appliances and everything you would need for a holiday break. Very helpful owner at dealing with questions and housekeeper on hand by phone as well. Lovely place.

So glad you had an enjoyable stay, we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Best wishes. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic old 'Southend's Crooked House' of a cottage, what fun!"

Very clean throughout, situated on a lovely old square. Cottage very tastefully decorated and with all you would ever need to live there. New and Quality items everywhere, superb. In the parking in the Square lottery we were lucky everyday! – we loved staying at Hobbes* Cottage this Summer. *named after Thomas Hobbes, the philosopher. The only drawback was the on/off hot water to the bath, particularly affecting the shower. I'd reduce the boiler hot water temperature control. Hope it can be sorted. Great holiday though!

  • "We really loved the cottage."

There was a hiccup as the cleaner hadn't been in to do the changeover, but the owner responded immediately, and the housekeeper came over straight away. Parking anywhere near the cottage is a lottery. Mostly, we had to park in the main car park, which isn't nearby. The small WC was manageable, but we aren't big people. The double bedroom is too small for a couple, unless you dont mind only being able to get to one side of the bed. OK for us as our daughter had that room, and we had the larger room with twin beds together. Great breakfast at Michael's bistro just down the road.

So glad you had an enjoyable stay overall and thank you for your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Property Owner

  • "Where to start… We were due to check in from 3pm on 31/05 for 3 nights."

At 2.30pm whilst we were on our way (3 hour drive) we were told we couldn’t enter the property until 6pm because it had not been cleaned. Quite frankly giving 30 minutes notice is a complete joke. We had our 5 month old daughter with us who needed to go to sleep ant 6pm and we also had to try and fill time because of this. Which meant more money spent. We eventually got into the property at around 7pm. Our first morning at the property was dreadful. No hot water running from the shower. We had luke warm water for 30 seconds then ice cold. I ran the shower for 40 minutes on full hot and it was ice cold. We informed the cleaner who said she would come round and check when we were out. So we were unable to shower and had to head out. The cleaner then informed me that she had been round and everything was fine… Obviously it was not fine and when we returned I went to turn the shower on again and low and behold the same problem. I informed the cleaner at 3.30pm. I heard nothing until 6.30pm, by which this time we had had enough and I called Sykes to complain and ask for a full refund as we would be leaving as soon as we could the following morning. Within minutes the cleaner is calling me! What a coincidence! I spoke again with the cleaner who said she would have to come round to check again or she would have to inform the owner I had refused to let her come in…I could see what was happening here already. Our daughter was asleep and we were reluctant to let the cleaner back in because of this. However she said she would bring a ‘plumber’. Somehow within 15 minutes the cleaner was at our door with the ‘plumber’ (definitely was not a plumber). Checked the shower and boiler and guess what…it wasn’t working! We were advised not to use the shower and that they would be calling British Gas to have the boiler checked as it was dangerous. Still no contact from the owners! I informed Sykes again that we wanted a full refund as this was not acceptable and we were unable to shower or bath our 5 month old daughter. The following morning, still no word from anyone so I again had to call Sykes who said they would contact the owner again about the refund. The owner offered 50%…50% refund after the absolute shambles that we had been through… I think it’s clear we will not be staying here again. We love Malmesbury and visit almost every year. Luckily we have stayed in other cottages in the village, with more competent and personable owners so have no need to come back here. Thankfully

We are very sorry to read your reflection on your stay at Hobbes Cottage and that you had a stressful time. Perhaps you didn’t get our welcome email sent to you on your arrival asking you to get in touch if you had any problems. We are remote from the cottage and delegate it’s care to our housekeeper who keeps us informed about all developments. It’s very unfortunate that you had a late check in. It is not usual that we encounter staff issues for the changeover. You reported the problem with the hot water to our housekeeper. She came out twice to try and help (once with a plumber) and found that there was hot water running from all sources at which time it became apparent that the problem may be originating from the shower head. As she felt that you were able to use the bath, she was somewhat reassured but contacted us to get in touch with British Gas to come out as soon as possible as she felt there was nothing more she could do. Unfortunately, in the meantime you had already complained to Sykes. We managed to get British Gas to visit the next day and the problem was resolved within 30 minutes. We do urge guests to contact us directly with any issues immediately, so we can promptly resolve them for you. Once again, we are very sorry about your experience and of course saddened by the unfortunate turn of events which were totally out of our control ( the previous guests did not report any problems). We felt that we acted as quickly as possible and tried to do our best to resolve the issue. We assure you that the comfort and happiness of our guests is our priority. We pay attention to detail in Hobbes Cottage which reflects our standards as you can see from the many earlier reviews. Many thanks The Owners Property Owner

  • "Fantastic cottage."

Really well appointed and very comfortable. Malmesbury is a lovely village with great independent shops, restaurants and some good pubs. Can be difficult to park but we used the car park just up the road which wasn’t expensive and could be paid for via an app so we could manage our parking from the comfort of the cottage. Great place to explore the local are and some great walks nearby.

  • "We loved this little cottage!"

It was an amazingly efficient use of space, and having access to a clothes dryer was a huge plus at the end of our 2 weeks in the UK. Parking was a cause of stress every time we left and returned, and there was no tea pot that we could find. Overall a great stay!

Clean and comfortable. The owners gave access to Netflix. Beautiful backdrop of a little church adjacent to the house. Parking on the pavement was easy and available. The cottage was so tastefully decorated like you would do for your own home and not for a b&b. All instructions were clear. They even left little snacks for us which were so useful after the long drive. A very happy customer and THANK YOU!

  • "A lovely historic cottage close to the centre of Malmesbury."

The abbey, market cross, museum, restaurants and pubs all within easy walking distance; plus Malmesbury is a good base for touring the area. The accommodation was well equipped and adequate for the two of us. Four people might find it rather small. Car parking isn't always possible in the immediate vicinity, although there are alternatives close by.

Thank you Alan! Glad you enjoyed your stay. We’d love to welcome you back in the future. Please don’t hesitate to let us know how we can make your stay even more comfortable next time! All the best. Property Owner
