  • "We had a lovely time at the cottage."

Fantastic location, Every thing that we needed was there. Smell of dump in the small cottage out the back and there were a lot of small maintenance jobs that needed doing. This did not stop us having a good time and we did not think we needed to complain.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Bag End. It's really helpful to get feedback and we will pass all your comments onto the owner to review. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Marvellous cottage so handy for Stow centre and all it offers."

The welcoming chocolate cake and provisions was most pleasing. Loved the courtyard garden - sipped champagne on the patio! The self contained annexe was a big hit with my niece and nephew. Standard of furniture and décor was good; very comfy beds! Bag End may look titchy from outside but it's a Tardis inside. A great week.

The property

Bag End is a charming, mid-terrace cottage resting in the historic market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire.

Offering flexible accommodation with an additional self-contained cottage through the garden area, Peppercorn Cottage; this stone-built cottage is steeped in character whilst being complemented by contemporary facilities, and is ideal for a group or family of six’s relaxing break in the Cotswolds.

On arrival at the cottage, ample road-side parking is available, either outside of the cottage or a short walk away.

The stunning greenery surrounding the doorway of the cottage invites you in, as you enter a small hallway where muddy boots can be stored after a long day of exploring.

The sitting area is peaceful and tranquil and has beautiful flagstone floor, oak beams and a large Cotswold stone fireplace with a gas flame fire, the perfect retreat after a long day.

Moving through the main property and into the well-appointed kitchen/diner, where you can cook up a storm with the help of the contemporary appliances, before indulging in a tasty home-cooked meal at the dining table; why not crack open a bottle and discuss the itinerary of the exciting days ahead?

The wooden conservatory is accessed through the dining area and offers a tranquil space to relax in, with underfloor heating to warm your toes after a long day of exploring!

The glorious garden sits between the main house and Peppercorn Cottage and is a well-maintained space with little nooks, whilst boasting parasol-covered seating and a garden swing pod; be sure to make use of the barbecue and dine alfresco during the warmer months!

Climb the stairs to the first floor where you will find the master bedroom, a stylish spot that boasts an inviting king-size bed and is close to the family bathroom, a space where you can soak in the bubbles in the luxurious, slipper bathtub as you replenish for the next day.

A steep staircase leads you up to the second floor where you are greeted by a large double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom; the perfect private getaway.

Heading downstairs and back through the garden you will find the entrance to Peppercorn Cottage which boasts a lovely, double-height sitting area (that can be made up to be an additional bed on request) and striking exposed Cotswold stone fireplace with a beautiful wood burning stove, with a connecting dining area to enjoy your home-cooked meals.

The kitchen is well-presented and has all the amenities you require for your stay.

A steep spiral staircase leads up to the mezzanine floor where you will find the neat galleried bedroom which boasts a Juliet balcony and an en-suite shower room.

If you intend to explore the area, then start in Stow-on-the-Wold.

At nearly 800ft, Stow is the highest of the Cotswold towns, located on the Roman Fosse Way and has many scenic walking and cycle routes to explore.

The market square is the heart of the community and offers boutique shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, as well as the Farmers’ Market which every second Thursday of each month, featuring inviting local produce.

Take a trip to Birdland Park & Gardens and discover over 500 species of birds, which is a wonderful spot to enjoy a picnic.

Perhaps a visit to the nearby village of Bourton-on-the-Water to marvel at the miniature replica of the Cotswold-stone village at The Model Village.

About the location

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
