It was the perfect location, spotlessly clean and all the furnishings etc were of a really high quality. It was my dads 83rd birthday whilst we were there and it was perfect. It was really warm and cosy after coming in from a really cold day of walking. Would definitely come back for our next trip to the Cotswolds.

  • "A lovely cottage, much improved by the owners."

The improvements they have made look very smart against this traditional cottage. Great to have a good size welcome lobby to kick off your shoes and hang up your coats. Very cosy living room and practical kitchen with high tech appliances that are easy to use. Steep stairs but comfortable bedroom with an en-suite and the main bathroom. We had a lovely time relaxing here after days spent exploring the Cotswolds. Parking nearby very useful as well. Do take care when stepping out onto the road from the gated front garden as some drivers do tend to ignore this is a small residential street and drive too fast.

  • "The cottage was very newly decorated and very clean, warm and well equipped."

We had a comfortable, enjoyable week in spite of the very cold weather. Would recommend it Only points - I assumed from the listing with off road parking that the parking was on the property and was surprised to see it was at the church hall and not available at certain times. The TV and cooker were top of the range but we had great difficulty using them just couldn't get some channels on the TV. Maybe need an idiot guide for the technically challenged

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased that you were comfortable and warm. The owner makes special arrangements to provide a parking space for the property, details of which are sent out prior to your stay. We will pass on your feedback regarding instructions. We especially enjoyed the quality of everything in the cottage. It's touches like these that really make a holiday so much more pleasant. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and we're clean freaks so this was such a bonus. We'll definitely look to book again in the future.

  • "The cottage was really lovely and the location is fantastic."

One of the reasons I booked was because I had seen a lot of comments about how clean the cottage was. The towels and bedding were lovely and clean however some of the surface areas I didn’t think were very clean. The kettle was absolutely full of limescale, really badly in fact so we had to boil pans of water if we wanted a hot drink. The television only worked if you were using Netflix or one of the apps, normal television did not work. The double was was extremely uncomfortable, there seemed to be an issue with the mattress in that there was a bump in the middle of it, so good nights sleep didn’t happen. We were left a bottle of wine and biscuits which was a really lovely touch, so thank you so much for that.

Thank you Emily for the feedback and I enjoyed chatting it through with you as its really important to us that everyone who visits the cottage has a lovely time. We hadn't realised there was a problem with the kettle and this has now been replaced so thank you for bringing it to our attention. As mentioned, both mattresses are actually brand new Vi Spring mattresses and cost £2,500. I will check them over for any bumps / faults and if so they will certainly be replaced. The TV is a new Samsung Smart TV and you're correct that the signals in Stow can be patchy, so I just wanted to make sure there was an internet option as well for everyone. Apologies though as I hadn't left out the instruction manual, but it's there now. I have also shared your comments with our housekeepers re some of the surface areas for as you say they have very high standards and pride in their work . Thank you again Emily for taking the time to provide your feedback and to chat, and so pleased you are looking to come back to the cottage again. Property Owner

  • "Your General Feedback Would you like to provide feedback about the holiday property?"

This will be shared with the property owner. Beautifully appointed and recent updates have obviously been done with a lot of thought to presentation and style (updated photos on the site would be helpful!) by the owners. Great location in heart of Stow with easy walk to shops, pubs and restaurants and all key sites in the Cotswolds within 30 mins drive. Use of church car park good addition as road outside the cottage busy during working hours. Cottage was immaculately clean, piping hot water at all times (we were there in a heatwave so can’t vouch for the heating!) good provision of basics and the wine and shortbread a nice welcoming touch. So, what’s the catch?? This is a typical Cotswolds cottage and the major drawback is that the cottage is absolutely tiny with room sizes and ceiling heights to match. My husband and I stayed for a week so the lack of decent wardrobe space or drawers was a problem. As a result would recommend 3 adults max. and only a couple if you want to spend your break in some comfort. The staircase was borderline dangerous (steep and slippy) and this should have been highlighted on the listing to help those with mobility issues. Couple of maintenance requirements - missing bottle shelf in fridge, shower head in en suite needs descaling/replacing and outdoor furniture needs to be cleaned to same standard as inside. I feel sad writing all that but the lack of comfort did take the edge off a lovely week’s stay.

The property

Situated in a quiet road within the heart of the historic market town, Stow-on-the-Wold, at the end of a short terrace of cottages, you will find this delightful end of terrace property, Spinners Cottage.

Built in the 18th century, the cottage is beaming with character such as exposed wooden beams, Cotswold stone walls and inviting woodburning stove.

The property has recently been completely refurbished but completed in such a way to ensure that its charm and character have been retained.

As a 300 year old property the stairs to the bedrooms are steep and may not be suitable for elderly guests.

Ideal for families or groups of friends, Spinners Cottage is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle for you to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings Stow has to offer.

Offering two homely bedrooms, sleeping up to four guests and benefits from the option of booking with neighbouring Primrose Cottage.

Park your car in the allocated space or in the surrounding free roadside parking and make your way into the courtyard garden and in through the front entrance.

Unload your luggage and kick your boots off in the well sized entrance hall and into the charming sitting room where you can curl up on the sofa in front of the TV or read a book at the welcoming window seat, whilst the wood burning stove warms you in the colder evenings.

Prepare your home-cooked meals in the well-equipped kitchen and dine at the dining table.

Retire for the evening upstairs in one of the two welcoming bedrooms; the master bedroom contains a king-size bed and benefits from an en-suite shower room; the perfect spot to wash down after a long day and lay your head and you can take advantage of the quaint window seat and admire the day closing to night.

The second bedroom contains a double bed and also benefits from a delightful window seat.

Outside, at the front of the property, you can enjoy a glass of bubbly or al fresco dining in the seating area in the courtyard garden.

Just a short walk away from your door step are many local amenities including pubs, tearooms and individual shops.

Stow is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with many scenic walks and cycle routes right on its doorstep, and if you want to enjoy the scenic spots that The Cotswolds have to offer, why not arrange a tour with Cotswold Walks & Hikes & Bikes, all just a short car journey from Stow.

If you want to discover the history of Stow, take a walk around the market square, where you will find the town stock at one end which dates back to the 15th Century and is shaded by an old Elm Tree and at the opposite end, you will find the ancient Market Cross, originally erected as a symbolic reminder to traders of the times to deal honestly and fairly.

Take a stroll over to St Edward’s Parish Church where you will find the enchanting looking tree surrounded doorway; it is here you will find a memorial of those who fought in the last Civil War.

Discover over 500 species of birds by visiting Birdland Park & Gardens, which is a lovely spot to enjoy a picnic, surrounded by wildlife, or perhaps make a visit to the nearby village of Bourton-on-the-Water and discover a miniature replica of the Cotswold-stone village at The Model Village.

Spend the day in beloved towns in the North Cotswold such as Chipping Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh and Burford or further afield in Cirencester and Oxford where you will find Blenheim Palace.

Or perhaps you want to enjoy the serenity of local neighbouring villages such as Broadwell, Lower Swell and The Oddingtons, where you can reward yourself from a long day walking with a mouth-watering refreshment in one of the popular inns For a perfect countryside getaway with loved ones, choose Spinners Cottage.

About the location

STOW-ON-THE-WOLD

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.

Note: We ask that dogs remain downstairs, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a dog remains after your departure. One well behaved dog welcome.

Note: This is an old property with character features, including steep stairs and low beams, which is laid out over two floors, and could therefore pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility.

Note: The property’s courtyard garden is enclosed; however, the neighbouring properties have a right of access through this garden, which could result in the gate to the road or the gate to the neighbouring property not being closed properly, consequently, young children and pets should be supervised outside at all times.

Note: An initial basket of logs is provided for the woodburning stove between October and April; further log supplies can be purchased locally.

Note: The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October, this is a traditional fair for people to meet up and trade which dates back to 1476 when its Charter was granted; Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed.
