The property

Stow-on-the-Wold 1 mile.

A traditional stone-built cottage encompassed by the beauty of the Cotswolds, Crooked Beams is a true marvel for those seeking a countryside escape.

Best suited for a couple's retreat, but equally as wonderful for friends and family, this end-terrace is ideally placed for outdoor exploration.

Step down from the gravelled area of the driveway and enter into the kitchen/diner to find all the essentials you could need for your self-catered stay tucked beneath the beams of the room; sit at the table in the centre of the room as your dinner simmers on the hob, before heading into the sitting area to unwind into your evening.

The living/dining room makes a great area for your morning cup of tea to be enjoyed in front of the roaring open fire, giving you a true taste of a countryside cottage and an aura of English elegance.

Later in the evening, the conservatory makes the perfect spot to spread out and play a board game brought from home on the dining table with optional heating, or in the summer months, open up the doors to let in the fresh breeze as your canine companions play freely in the rear lawn and patio area.

Move up onto the first floor at the end of the day to find the quaint study inviting you in to get lost in a good book; a truly tranquil way to end your evening.

Choose from either a king-size or a double bedroom to rest your head, both with ample storage space and bright and airy settings, they're equally as delightful.

The local area of Maugersbury is perfect for walking, with nearby Stow-on-the-Wold being a steady stroll away, with a wide selection of eateries to choose from for a traditional Sunday dinner, alongside shops, an art gallery and the historic landmark of the Postbox, there's plenty to explore here whilst being surrounded by scenic excitement.

In easy reach you can also find Bourton-on-the-Water, known as 'Venice of the Cotswolds', here you can find even more history, a museum, model village and a wildlife park, there's activity for all ages.

About the location

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
