  • "This was our fourth or fifth time staying at the stunning April Cottage and weā€™ve never been disappointed."

However this time felt particularly special. The house book has been developed a lot since our last stay and included so much useful information about local walks, activities and facilities. The gift basket was an incredible surprise - generously filled with delicious local treats. The house was immaculately clean and spelled fresh as soon as we walked in. And the Christmas decorations made the whole place feel cosy and homely. What a wonderful trip, we were so sad to leave. Thank you to all the team at Manor Cottages - great service before, during and after our stay.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We are so pleased to welcome you back again and to have been able to exceed your expectations. We do our best to make our properties festive during the Christmas period and it's really nice to know that these efforts are appreciated. We do hope that we can welcome you back for another stay. Would recommend that the shower head is descaled though as quite a lot of the holes were blocked making the shower not as good as it should be.

The smart TV could do with upgrading as the apps were very limited. The door to the smaller double room needs attention as the hinges were loose .

Thank you for sharing your feedback. The property description does state that there are "two undercounter fridges, one with a small freezer compartment". One has an ice box sufficient for ice cubes and ice cream etc. We find that most of our guests come to the Cotswolds to share meals with friends and family, making the most of the fresh local food (there are some wonderful nearby farm shops) and do not need to stock up on frozen food. The TV is a modern smart TV which suits most guests. We hope you enjoyed exploring the local area. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

The accommodation is very well appointed with everything you need. The stairs are quite steep but that was mentioned in the description and the lights witches took some getting used to. April cottage is fortunate to have off road parking but it is a tight squeeze if you have two cars. Would thoroughly recommend the accommodation.

  • "The property was in a good location and was clean, warm and spacious."

The storage for clothes and personal belongings in the second double and twin bedrooms was very limited and resulted in four adults having to use cases for storage which was awkward and used up floor space. Outside coats and shoes had to be stored in the downstairs cleaning cupboard. Even though this is a period cottage this matter could have been simply improved. Some appliances needed refreshing i.e. the toaster switches are broken and awkward, dishwasher door bumps into the fridge when opened . The refuge /recycle system is not really clear. Not enough toilet paper for 6 adults for a week or any kitchen roll provided which are usually standard . Small things but noticed and reflected on comfort factor .

We are glad to hear you found the cottage, clean, warm and spacious. The cottage has a folder with information to help guests have an enjoyable stay in the Cotswolds, including details on all aspects of the cottage, which includes rubbish and recycling information. The owners usually provide a good stock of basic provisions suitable for guestsā€™ typical needs and, there is a well stocked local shop two minutes walk from the cottage. We were surprised in relation to your storage comments; the website information for the cottage contains an accurate description, as there are two chests of drawers and the two wardrobes contain twenty clothesā€™ hangers. We are pleased that you enjoyed the location. Excellent walks are available directly from the cottage. Best wishes, Character Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Thank you for an enjoyable stay in this beautiful cottage, we all had a really lovely relaxing time."

We would most definitely stay again. However, for your records, we were disappointed that there was no welcome pack other than a pint of milk. I, certainly, have stayed in many properties and have always had a delightful welcome pack which nearly always consisted of ; Milk, Bread, a cake, eggs, jam, and a few more bits too. I feel that paying nearly Ā£1000 for a week that a little more than a pint of milk should have been left. Secondly, the main oven was filthy with oil/ fat in the bottom. I wiped it out as best as I could but it really needs a proper clean. Some of the pans need a proper clean too. My only other point to raise is that the walls are very thin, so not much privacy. I did need to call to report s leak from the en-suite shower into the lounge, which I believe should now be fixed, We left the property cleaned throughout ( apart from the oven). Overall, 9.5 out of 10. A fantastic cottage in a beautiful little village. Thank you Marie Etienne Sent from my iPhone

Thank you for your feedback and comments, we're pleased to hear you enjoyed a relaxing break. We're sorry to hear about the oven and will ensure this is checked by housekeeping. We can confirm that the shower has been fixed. Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us and hope you will return again. Best wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay in this outstandingly beautiful cottage and would love to return at some time in the future."

Dog walks are easily accessible and almost on the doorstep. The church bells added character and atmosphere to the lovely feel of the cottage.Underfloor heating was really lovely but we had a bit of trouble understanding the heating controls and timings. A chest of drawers in all the bedrooms would be most welcome as I had to live out of my suitcase. There is plenty of room for this particularly in the master bedroom. We were warm enough but thicker duvets may be needed in cold snaps. The mattress in the master bedroom is not too comfortable and the shower mixer needs some adjustment as it is still not warm enough as noted by previous reviews. I showered in the over bath shower rather than the en-suite. Kitchen was fine with plenty of plates etc but freezer is tiny and also iced up. We had a job to fit anything in there which was a bit difficult as we had Christmas food for 4. Thanks for the welcome package which was indeed very welcome on our arrival. We loved the Christmas decorations and what a treat to have a real tree. We ate at the Kings Arms on Christmas Eve and had a great meal in a friendly atmosphere.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and hope that the issues you encountered did not leave a lasting impact. These will be investigated and rectified for future guests. We hope to welcome you again one day soon. Best wishes, Character Cottages. Property Owner

Once again we all had an amazing time. We had a problem with the heated floor, it wouldn't work. I emailed about it but I'm still waiting for a reply! Please don't advertise the heated floor if it no longer works. We loved it when we stayed before. The cottage was beautifully clean apart from the stone floor downstairs, my Sons socks were black from walking around, a little disappointing. Great kitchen, lots of utensils, plates, mugs etc. A few beer glasses would have been great though. The fire is so cosy, our dogs loved it. Location is great. Lots of dog walks on your doorstep. The field up the lane was great! The church across the road is stunning. Shop a couple of mins walk away. Both pubs were very friendly, especially the Butchers Arms. We would love to return for a 3rd time.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at April Cottage. It's lovely to hear your a returning guest, it's a fabulous location to base yourself in the Cotswolds. Lovely friendly neighbour opposite. Morrisons 5 mins away if you forget anything. Pub also 5 mins from cottage. Some negatives 4.30 pm check in very late and 10.00 am check out very early . The fact you have to leave the cottage as you found it and strip all the beds on the morning you leave , itā€™s a very early start. Freezer is tiny just about got a bag of ice in there. No what I would consider basic condiments ketchup, brown sauce . Toilet seat in downstairs loo still loose. You have to open fridge door wide to open dishwasher door completely to load large plates.

  • "Our week at April cottage was wonderful!"

Living in America, our experiences in this beautiful old English period cottage were amazing. It was well stocked and we appreciated the extras - coffee, tea, washing powder, oils, spices, paper products etc. The welcome produce from a local farm shop was lovely! Thank you. Glad we knew about the church bells in advance - we got used to them very quickly. (Glad they stopped during the night). One morning the washing machine leaked but the problem was immediately addressed and repaired. Mu 12 year old twin grandsons, loved the village and walking to the local shop and pub. I hope we can return one day! It was a fabulous week.

So lovely that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and enjoyed the local farm shop produce. Pleased that the washing machine issue was sorted efficiently. • "We enjoyed our three nights in April Cottage but were disappointed with certain aspects of it."

The sitting room sofas were extremely uncomfortable, they were very low, had sagging cushions and the covers were discoloured. The kitchen lacked utensils and different sized plates. The drawers were messy and hadn't been sorted out. There was no welcome pack and bearing in mind this stay was to celebrate a special birthday, was disappointing.

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. Some of your comments are a little strange in that there are over twenty four separate kitchen utensils in a pot and in the drawers. The kitchen has a standard cutlery drawer with slots for knives, forks etc. As to plates, we are quite baffled, as there are sixteen dinner plates and eight smaller side plates. As the maximum capacity of the cottage is limited to six people, this amount of crockery should be more than sufficient as more than six people would be a breach of our terms and conditions. I can confirm that milk, tea, coffee ( including capsules) are supplied along with a good supply of other provisions. Regarding the sofas, we have never received complaints of this nature before as we find that sofas and chairs ( seating height and firmness) are always a personal choice. We hope that the above did not have a lasting impact and that overall did not detract from your stay at April Cottage. Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay - it worked well for us and presented well."

However, I had phoned beforehand and asked if certain basics were included in the rental. I have owned a holiday home myself for many years, which was rented out, and we always included basics like salt, pepper, washing up liquid, soap, shower gel, loo paper, also some tea, coffee and sugar. I was told to take everything with me, that nothing was provided, only one roll of loo paper per bathroom. However this was not the case, and we were pleasantly surprised to find all of the above items, plus additional things too. So Sykes need to have accurate and better information on their properties to give to their guests. We also asked if we could check in earlier than 5:00pm, as we had a baby with us. We were told not a minute before 5:00 was acceptable. However my son's journey took less time than he had allowed for, and he arrived early at 3:30, to find the cottage empty and ready for occupation - it would have been very helpful to be given this information in advance. A simple phone call to let us know we could check in early would have been an easy thing to do. The cottage itself was charming, however the lighting is a very fiddly to work. We were unable to turn the heating off downstairs, and had to have some of the doors and windows open when when we were there as despite following the instructions for the heating, it never turned off.

Thanks for your feedback and we are delighted you loved your stay. In terms of arrival and check in times, they have been set in the context of Covid - 19 guidelines to protect cleaning staff and guests. That is to say , we are required to leave sufficient time for the cottage to be aired, deep cleaned and for there to be some hours separating arrivals and departures of guests and the cleaning team to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone. We apologise for the miscommunication relating to supply of provisions at April cottage The owners usually provide a good amount of the basics. The heating is controlled by three Hive thermostats downstairs and is in full working order. The house is well insulated downstairs so some guests prefer to turn some of the heating zones off. We hope that you will return again to April cottage in the future. Property Owner
