  • "A spacious, clean and very well appointed house."

It’s larger than you would think, and even better than the photos. There is plenty of space to spread out, we were celebrating a significant Birthday for my Father and had family members and friends join. I also ‘worked from home’ for a couple of days with Teams meetings most of the day and WiFi connection was very good. It’s a lovely village, with footpaths close by. We had a great meal at the pub next door and also went into Stow which is as good as ever. Thank you for a great stay.

Thank you Grace. Really glad that both you and family had a lovely time. We work in the Cottage quite a bit and agree that the new super fast fibre lines are much much better than the old ones! Hopefully we will see you again soon. Best wishes. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

Few little things such as not much toilet paper and only two logs were left for a whole weeks stay and one wouldn’t even fit on the fire. Would have expected more for in winter.

Thank you for your kind feedback and it is great to know that you enjoyed both the house and its location. Apologies that you were left short of a few items. There should be a minimum of two toilet rolls per bathroom (and WC). Likewise a full basket of logs and kindling. As a note to future guests, please call Manor Cottages or the owner on the your first night and let us know if there is anything missing. We can address this immediately. We would honestly rather hear immediately as opposed to after your visit. Property Owner

We left feeling relaxed and energised. Orchard House delivered on all levels, we’ve never felt more at home. We took advantage of, “The Horse and Groom”, being on our doorstep - everyone was so friendly and the food was very good. Many thanks for the generous, “Welcome Gifts”, which were much appreciated. We love the Cotswolds and couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more. Many thanks !

The last few steps onto the landing have no bannister, and that poses a problem for my wife, as she has a mobility issue, but that is our only ‘negative’ observation. Initially there were two slight issues, which Manor Cottages resolved with commendable speed and courtesy.

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback. You know that we really enjoy hosting you. You must love both the house and village to keep returning. As it happens the bannisters are being replaced this Spring to make them all more stable. Property Owner

We only had 2 small problems one was the grass wasn't cut which made it hard to play games out there, and the other was in the mornings the living room is full of slug trails which didn't bother us to much as the slugs were gone by morning

Thank you Laura. We are really happy that you liked the house so much. Apologies that the grass had not been cut back. The constant rain had stopped our lovely gardener (Stuart) from mowing over the last 10-12 days. He has done so twice since thankfully. He is scheduled to visit fortnightly. The pesky little snail who snuck into the house has been found a safe new home outside! Country living! Best wishes, Property Owner

Thank you Simon. We are very glad that you had a great holiday and enjoyed both the weather and the garden. Looking forward to you returning. There is a shop in the Horse & Groom (just a few houses down) which sells about 50-60 items. Also the major supermarkets (as well as Amazon) will deliver. That said it is fair to say that one would need to visit Stow (about 1.5 miles) for a wider range or larger shop. Best wishes, Owner Property Owner

Couldn't call Manor Cottages because no mobile signal. Sent e-mail. On returning to Orchard House that day found small packet on doorstep containing not only tablets but also a Jey cloth, a pan scourer and some bin bags. Above and beyond service from the Manor Cottages team!

Many thanks for your kind comments. Apologies that you were initially short on dish washer tablets. We are always happy to help and are delighted to hear you had a lovely stay. We look forward to welcoming you back. PS The phone signal in the Cotswolds can be patchy, so the owner has installed super fibre broadband. Spacious, comfortable and clean throughout, all our needs were catered for. We would be happy to visit again. The only reservation for those with elderly or disabled guests were the rather steep steps within the property.

Thank you for your lovey feedback. We are delighted you have a wonderful stay in the area and that you enjoyed Orchard House. Some of these traditional Cotswold houses can have steep staircases. Whilst there are only 5-6 steps we apologies for any inconvenience. A sturdy "rope" support is in place to assist and the owner has agreed to improve this during autumn maintenance. It is well equipped. The kitchen/dining room is very spacious and airy and the lounge is comfortable. Two of the three bedrooms - the double bedded rooms -are also spacious. My only criticisms are small ones which are summed up by the comment that there was a need for a bit of maintenance here and there. The grass in the back garden was overly long, which meant it was very wet to walk on. The lightbulbs in the lamps in the lounge had gone but (despite a previous visitor also mentioning this) were not replaced, and the door handle between the kitchen and the hall was extremely loose. Whilst we were there, water started to come through the ceiling too! To be fair, this was quickly and effectively dealt with by a plumber and electrician organised by Sykes, but the plumber commented that the leak (due to a break in the sealant around the bath) had clearly been happening 'for quite a long time'. All that said, this IS a very nice cottage, with many, many positives, and we had a very good break!

Thank you for your helpful feedback. We apologise for any inconvenience. Hopefully everything mentioned has now been taken care of. The gardener and maintenance team now visit weekly again - as they did pre-lockdowns. There has also been a complete review and refresh across the board. Property Owner

There was a box of light bulbs in the utility cupboard but they either didn't fit or didn't work. The cottage would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems as there are steps between each room downstairs and into two of the bedrooms upstairs - not mentioned in the detail of the cottage.

The property was very cosy, comfortable and suited the 5 of us nicely. There is something for everyone whether that be places of historical interest, walking, shopping or eating out. I had requested one of the bedrooms be set up as a twin room instead of a three quarter, although on arrival an oversight meant it had been set up as a three quarter. Following a call to the office, the housekeeper had arrived at the property within the hour [we would have done it ourselves although bedding was stored in another part of the property that was secured]. • "We generally loved our stay at the property, but there are a couple of maintenance issues that we would like to raise."

There were a number of light bulbs not working throughout the property, the most inconvenient being the lights to the property entrance. This made key collection from the safe at night extremely difficult due to it being pitch black! Perhaps a quick bulb check could be made before guests arrive? Also, on our arrival the refuse and recycling bins were almost full. We were lead to believe that the bin collection woupd be during our stay and the bins were placed onto the road, presumably by the housekeeper. However this wasn’t the case as the bin collection is fortnightly. As a consequence, when we left the bins were over flowing. Perhaps provision should be made for refuse to be removed after guests have left the property? Finally, the Roman blind in the kitchen was found to be broken. This and the non working light bulbs I reported directly to the office, during our stay.

The issue with the outside lights and blinds have both been addressed. Apologies for having to arrive in the pitch black Property Owner

  • "The house itself was very good, however we had problems with unavailability of internet for first few days and also problems with the heating/hot water systems."

Manor Cotts did get these working ( although I think there may be an ongoing issue with the heating system which I have reported) and also kindly offered financial compensation.\ From the owner: ''The central heating and boiler system has just been fully replaced. The drop in pressure that was experienced by two guests in October has now been rectified. Annoyingly the broadband connection was interrupted during the same week. This was a one-off caused by a cross wire at the exchange. It was rectified the day after it occurred. However, our deepest apologies for any inconvenience that was experienced. We really do try and maintain the cottage to the highest possible standard "

About the location

STOW-ON-THE-WOLD

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
