  • "Very nice rental in good location and very quiet."

Large kitchen an asset when staying (4) weeks and appreciated having both a washer and dryer for use during that long stay. The location is close to good food shopping at both Morrison’s Supermarket and M&S in Evesham and great butcher shops in Winchcombe and Broadway. Appreciated having the gas fireplace on some rainy and chilly days during our stay. Ray and Jo Ann Castellano, Cape Cod, MA USA

  • "This was our second time this year at Mount View."

We chose is as it has a lovely ground floor double room with shower en suite suitable for our elderly father who has mobility problems. One improvement that could easily be made would be the addition of hand rails in the shower and a non slip flooring to the tray. This room is perfect for those with mobility issues but the shower area isn’t as safe as it could be. This time we took our own mats and even a shower stool to lessen the chances of any slips. Other than this, the house is ideal for a family gathering and very well equipped whilst also being close to lovely places to visit. Thank you for another nice stay.

The location was great for everywhere that we wanted to go, with many attractions and pretty Cotswold towns in easy reach.

First of all thanks to the cleaning company, they did their best to let us check in 2 hours earlier, I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, a very polite gentleman, he shared with us some places to visit and on this occasion we thanks for his hospitality and advice. The house is very well equipped in all respects, the kitchen is spacious and equipped with everything you need to be able to cook for yourself, the rooms are warm and spacious, the floor heating on the ground floor and the heating in the radiators upstairs was very good, the large yard , parking for 4 cars, I have nothing to object to and we thank once again those involved in this wonderful holiday and last but not least we thank the people of sykes cottage for the support and information provided. We wholeheartedly recommend this holiday home and whenever we have the opportunity we will return here and in this wonderful area.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay at Mount View and really appreciate your kind words. We would love to welcome you again. Best wishes Character Cottages Property Owner

  • "The property itself was good overall, the kitchen white goods and equipment excellent, so why was this Cottage let down by cleanliness, so much so we had to complain on the first opportunity Ref: COR 285668 CF Mould on the Water Filter jug in fridge, thick cobwebs around all kitchen skirting, food waste under sofa cushions, downstairs bathroom bin still full top of loo brush dusty and human hair around shower."

Subsequent to our initial complaint, Every baking tray contained food deposit, Cobwebs around bedroom headboards, When retrieving a toy from under a sofa a pair of old socks plus a mass of 'dust' deposit, clearly had not been moved for some time. Finally broken glass in bottom of Dishwasher. We have rented many holiday cottages over the last 20 years and have never had cause to complain, just to confirm that we are not being excessively fussy. Since COVID quite rightly more stringent measures have been put in place with regard to cleaning and most cottages have added at least an hour before occupation can be taken. So, we would like some feedback as to exactly what checks are actually carried out by the owners to ensure this extra cleanliness is carried out and what can you say to convince us to hire a Cottage again, which at present we cannot see ever happening?

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we sincerely apologise for the cleanliness you encountered. This is not the standard that we strive to adhere to. As soon as we were informed we arranged for housekeepers to go the property to rectify. Character Cottages Property Owner

A few things we would have found useful are A butter dish A potato peeler More cutlery especially teaspoons as it meant the dishwasher needed to be used more often Oven gloves- we brought tea towels as asked but found them there but no oven gloves- really essential or one needs to be told to bring them One other thing- there was one room with a double bed but no storage space for clothes- I think folk need more warning about that- less important for us as a child was in the room but not much good for a married couple Overall it was a lovely house in a great area- albeit on rather a noisy road- maybe a warning about that too

  • "The house is lovely and we had an enjoyable stay."

The issues I had was not having a gate to the back garden as it just didn’t feel overly safe, knowing someone could walk round the back easily. One day someone just popped up and came to get the bin which scared us! I would definitely build a gate just to add privacy. Also the cleanliness, there were spiders and cobwebs everywhere. If you look up in the skylight in the kitchen it’s covered with them and all the cleaners need to do is hoover each time which takes seconds. This let the property down and I was surprised to see so many cobwebs. Overall it’s a great house that’s good value with everything you need, in a good location.

Thank you for providing this feedback and we're glad you enjoyed your stay at Mount View. We're sorry if you encountered some issues regarding cobwebs and will of course pass on your concerns to the housekeeping team. We hope to welcome you again. Property Owner

Facilities very good only two things for improvement. I had my elderly mother with us and in downstairs bedroom en-suite it would be nice to have a handrail in the shower cubicle for the elderly who need help. Also, in the en-suites would be good to have a basket on the wall for putting soaps/shower cream etc. Our stay was great the house is in a good location for visiting places. The views from the house are beautiful and it was nice to see the sheep right next door to us. Would definitely recommend and would stay again. Thank you.

  • "We were a group of 6 people consisting of 3 generations."

The tastefully decorated downstairs en-suite bedroom met our elderly grandparent with approval. There was ample space on the ground floor with a cosy and comfortable sitting room with tv to the front and a lovely and large open plan fully-equipped kitchen, 6-seater dining table and a corner sofa and tv to the back. The small rear garden was fully tiled with a bench and large patio set for outdoor dining. Its rather compact size though, disappointed the kids immensely, as they had planned to spend much time playing outdoors; our own garden being at least 3 x larger. Nevertheless we made the best out of it and a good time was had by all regardless. The field of sheep next door was an added bonus and lovely surprise for us all. The upstairs en-suite master bedroom was similar to the downstairs one but rather drab in terms of decor; curtains reminded me of grandad's slippers! The beautiful views however helped in overlooking this point. The double room was very disappointing. It was tight and dark, having no storage units whatsoever, with the exception of some wall hooks and a small sidetable. It certainly was not ideal or comfortable for two people having to live out of a suitcase for 5 days. This bedroom could do well with a wardrobe or chest of drawers in the very least: without the need for a fancy chair either. The single bedroom was very basic too although a chest of drawers and some hooks for storage was included here. It would have been useful to have some hooks put in the bathrooms too. We booked this property due to it's high ratings but sadly it fell short on a few points. The most unacceptable point for us was the level of cleanliness. The property was full of cobwebs and spiders; under all the kitchen cabinets, in ceiling corners etc. We even spotted a very large and menacing spider in the back room which had the girls screaming their hearts out. Unfortunately we could not find it so hope no-one else gets to encounter it. The dirt in the sliding door runners still remains there and no effort to clean the outside furniture had been made as it was also ridden with cobwebs. Another unacceptable point was that when we arrived at the property, the cleaner was still busy cleaning and did not leave til almost 7pm when check-in was supposedly 5pm! We also had a man stride onto the property one evening, without any notice whatsoever, who then subsequently pulled out the rubbish bin from the back garden to then take it to the front. We assume this had been agreed by the owners, however it shocked us and encroached on our privacy. The owners have still not added any games or books to pass time with on those dull and wet evenings nor are there any dvds or a dvd player all of which we would expect as basic necessities. Compared to other properties we have stayed in, this property did not offer the high standard you would expect from paying the amount we did

  • "A high grade, excellent property, providing ideal accommodation for us all."

Generally completely happy. I suggest the owner should inspect more often: Hoover full and not functioning well Tried to clear out dirt from sliding door runners, but failed 3 pepper grinders but not a grain between them For a luxury property at this price level I would expect: pepper, a few coffee pods to get us started, shower gel, spare bin bags, books, games

The house is very well appointed and of a very high standard. Particularly welcome was the spacious ground floor bedroom with en-suite shower - perfect for my 98 year old mother. Also we all slept very well- the beds are really comfortable! Just a couple of suggestions: a mirror in the two smaller bedrooms, and a hook or two in the bathroom / shower rooms, for dressing gowns etc. Thanks also to Sykes Cottages for keeping us informed and updated.

  • "We had a 3 night stay at Mount View and the property was absolutely fantastic."

The finish of the property was to a very high standard and had everything we needed. The only thing that could possibly make the property even better would be to have a side gate as we had 3 young children and when playing in the garden had to have all eyes on them because of the main road. But that really wild be the only suggestion and didn’t take away from our stay at all. We would definitely recommend this to other people and would definitely return again!
