Lovely and warm to walk into with a delicious plate of pastries waiting for us. The local pub and cafes were excellent and very friendly. Loved the character and decoration of the cottage however our only down point would be the stairs if anyone had mobility problems as they are steep. Nevertheless I would fully recommend a stay at the Snug and we very much hope to return ourselves .

  • "We had the best weekend at the snug, it is a gorgeous and very homely cottage, so nice we wished we could move in permanently!"

It had everything we needed and the little touches like the pastries and having the fire on when we arrived were lovely. The location was excellent, a few minutes wander down into the village with a lovely pub and cafe, and only a 10 minute walk across to the common with amazing views across the hills. The garden was perfect and fully enclosed which was great for our pooch who is a bit of an escape artist! However, the paving slabs in the garden were very slippery which was made worse when wet, so maybe they need to be power washed. Would absolutely recommend staying in the cottage and hope to return one day :)

Early mornings for coffee and pastry in town with access to a lovely public footpath for an autumn walk. I did not have my pup, but there were several accommodations for a pup- with treats and towels etc. I hope to visit again!

  • "One of the most beautiful and well looked-after rentals I have ever stayed in."

This unique cottage has been modernised and decorated to a very high standard with great attention to detail. We found it very comfortable. The stairs up to the bedroom need caution as highlighted but this is part of the charm. Very well equipped with everything we needed. Situated perfectly for strolling into lovely Minchinhampton village as well as rambling up on the common and around the other nearby villages. The beautiful and very private garden was a great perk as was the gas stove for warming up the living room quickly on rainy evenings. We didn’t have any problems with parking nearby. We found Dianne to be proactive with contact and were reassured she was on hand to help if needed. We found the water pressure in the bathroom a bit low but everything worked fine. The kitchen was very well-equipped with high end appliances (not that we did much cooking!). Our dog loved it too and was extremely welcome everywhere we went in the village and local area. Thanks again for the lovely treats for all of us on arrival and for a really memorable stay!

Thank you for taking the time to leave this wonderful review. We are delighted to hear that you had a great stay and your doggy too! Best wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner

  • "Unfortunately, we had an overall negative and stressful experience whilst staying at The Snug."

There is a gas fire in the property and on our second evening we smelt gas. The short story is that an emergency gas engineer arrived who discovered a carbon monoxide (CO) leak due to a fault with the flue. The CO detector in the property unfortunately did not detect this CO leak. The gas fire was deemed an immediate danger. We promptly vacated The Snug. Sykes Cottages offered for us to stay in a hotel, which we declined, as we were to attend A&E, due to my husband being symptomatic of CO exposure, and our home was within an hour's drive. I was also pregnant at the time and have had additional monitoring since due to CO exposure. We were understandably concerned with regards to the welfare of our unborn baby. Sykes have refunded our stay, but neither the owner nor Sykes, have simply said sorry for the situation that we found ourselves in. We won’t be using Sykes cottages again due to this experience

Thank you for your comments, we’re sorry to hear you feel this way. We take any health and safety issues extremely seriously as we understand that any potential breaches are a concern for guests and will always try to offer an immediate solution pending any investigations. We have detailed notes relating to this incident and received confirmation from a gas engineer that the gas fire was safe and a new gas safety certificate was issued. We can see from the notes on file that colleagues from our customer services team have been in contact and have followed up with you. Should you require anything further, please do let us know. • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at No."

35 West End. The unit was perfectly charming from the beautiful decor to all of the quirks a centuries old home would have. From the gorgeous stone to the low ceilings to the beams overhead, we felt like we had gone back in time… but with the conveniences of modern day. Navigating the stairs was a little tricky in the beginning, but we got the knack for them after a couple of days. The kitchen had everything we needed, and it all worked well. Dianne left a fresh container of milk, delicious lemon cookies, and coffee/tea for us to arrive to. That was very welcomed after a long day of travel. Tip if you decide to stay here. There’s a power strip behind the microwave we temporarily plugged in to the left of the wash machine to use for hair styling tools closer to the bathroom mirror. It worked perfectly! We would stay in this cottage again if we came back to the area. If you happen to be in the area, watch for the cows roaming the streets. It was quite a treat to see that. We especially enjoyed the Highland cows on the commons. And make a stop or more to a restaurant called The Kitchen. Asumpta, the owner, makes you feel like an old friend. The food was delicious. We would definitely recommend this cottage and Minchinhampton in general. It was just what we needed.

Gorgeous property with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. The owner has put a lot of thought into this property, ensuring all our needs were met. The bed was very comfy and we slept like babies. The stairs are narrow and steep, as described, which is to be expected in a 300 yr old cottage. The kitchen is very well equipped, with tea and coffee and even milk in the fridge. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the garden was perfect for our puppy to explore. The cottage is situated close to amenities, pubs and places to walk. Or just a short drive away is the town to pop to the local supermarket for supplies. We had an amazing stay and left feeling very rested and content. I cannot wait to visit again.
