  • "This cottage was charming."

It was warm, comfortable and provided a perfect base for local day trips over the New Year. Access was a little difficult and the stairs leading to the cottage through the gorgeous garden were quite slippy but with a little extra care all was fine. Customer service was great and George couldn't have been more helpful. The piano and the telescope are excellent little touches.

  • "Unfortunately the cottage did not have the WiFi that was listed in the description, this was particularly important to us as there was only patchy mobile phone and 3G/4G coverage, and we needed it to keep in touch with family, and of course to book holiday activities."

We also felt misled by the proximity of the nearest shop and the nearest pub (the latter appeared to have closed down some time ago but still appeared in the directions to the cottage. We were also disappointed by the state of upkeep of the cottage. The important parts (kitchen worktops, sink, floors, bathroom, bed clothes and towels) did seem to be clean but the peripheral areas, walls and windows were filthy. The grass had been mown on the day of our arrival and some pruning had taken place but the garden was otherwise overgrown, with piles of garden rubbish. Such a shame because it was a beautiful spot and with relatively little work the cottage and garden would be lovely. The beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed using the barbecue. However after such a long wait for a holiday we were overall disappointed.

  • "This cottage stay was amazing!"

In a beautiful setting right next to Welshbury Woods with walks on your doorstep. By no means is this a modern abode except for the huge freeview TV in the lounge. But giving up the modern leaves you with an authentic cottage with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Gardens are full of discovery which our 4 year old delighted in especially with the goats and Dave the ram in the field adjacent. There is no WiFi and 4G is limited although you can pick up a signal upstairs. All made for a relaxing getaway. Jane is a wonderful host. She had laid on a surprise for my husbands 'big' birthday including his favourite wine and some treats. She was really helpful yet not intrusive. Thank you for everything!!

  • "Sad to see the property is now up for sale, though it is old and needs work done on it, for example the bathroom and kitchen."

I think the damp needs looking at also, though not a problem in spring or summer, it will be such a pity if we could not stay here again as we definitely would! Its the views and the location that makes this property so amazing! We would love to buy it ourselves. Our host were delightful and could not do enough for us, from free fresh laid eggs to advise and a friendly chat, they are a lovely family.

  • "WONDERFUL PLACE(s) for MUSICIANS and ARTISTS seeking SUITABLE PLACES to UNWIND, WRITE, RECORD and JAM Rose Tree Cottage is a wonderful place to stay for families, groups of families and groups of musicians and artists looking for an inspiring location to write, record and jam."

The lounge is a fantastic size for converting into a makeshift studio and benefits from direct garden access, large picnic bench and a wonderful view over which to share some beers and burgers on the BBQ. The kitchen is well equipped and is a great size for groups of friends. A homely home from home is how we described it when we stayed there in September 2020 and we shall definitely return as it more than meets the needs of a group of hobby musicians and artists. The site also benefits from having two other rentable sites within very close proximity, making it a perfect place for larger groups of families/friends to holiday together but without being on top of each other! Simply search Sykes for 'TIN BARN' (a luxuriously furnished cabin for two with a hot tub) and 'RED BUS' (a converted former London Bus which sleeps 6) and benefits from communal camp fire, beautiful views, Edna and Jessica (the resident goats) and all the apples and pears you could ever want (seasonal)! The whole site is a fantastic place for families of all generations to enjoy homes away from homes in a beautiful rural setting in between Wales and England, very close to the start of the Severn Estuary. The surrounding area is perfect for the kids who like to go exploring on foot with many lovely places to stumble on within a half hour stroll from the site. Great job Lee and Jane on a very unique combination of venues in a very unique and welcoming location.

  • "My husband and I spent three lovely months at Rose Tree Cottage situated in the serene countryside near Gloucester."

It was our haven, whether as a retreat to come back to after travelling to other spots, or as a quiet and peaceful home to relax in. We loved its atmosphere, its garden setting, its view across grassy fields with grazing ewes and lambs to the Forest of Dean, its locality at the end of one of the narrow windy lanes. Our landlords/hosts, who lived next door, couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant, and indeed, when it came time to go, we felt we were saying goodbye to friends. Every request was attended to immediately, and every effort made to ensure we got the best from our time there. We would love to return!

It's the most beautiful location and we had the best weather ever that I can remember having in The Forest. The cottage is very comfortable and the surrounding garden very pretty. It was peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed great walks in the Forest of Dean & Wye Valley. We had a delicious welcome basket left for us full of treats which were a nice surprise and much appreciated. Plenty of logs were also available for the open fire and we made use of this in the evenings. We really enjoyed our break in this beautiful area.

  • "Spent a lovely week here in this cosy cottage in early November."

The Autumn colours gave spectacular views from the garden of the cottage. Situated on the edge of the Forest of Dean it is easy to get to lots of different places. There was a Welcome pack for our arrival and a warm greeting from the owners who live next door. Great also that we could take our dog with us. The cottage is well equipped and also has a dishwasher and a washing machine. Such a treat to be able to light the log fire and make the living room warm and cosy. Especially as the evenings were staring to get more chilly. The cottage is very spacious. It is lovely to sit by the large landing area and look out at the wonderful views all around. There is an abundance of wildlife to enjoy. Many birds visiting the gardens. It is so peaceful in this setting. Lovely place if you want peace and quiet. I would highly recommend that if you stay in this cottage that you visit the Red Hart pub at Blaisdon. Always a friendly welcome. Lovely food and dogs are welcome in the bar area.

  • "The owners were very welcoming, helpful and friendly."

Welcome basket/milk/wine was a lovely touch after our long journey. It was the best place we have stayed as a family on a holiday. The setting is off the beaten track which we loved and there were lots of animals - sheep, chickens, dogs, goats - which the children found entertaining. Lots of great places to hide in the beautiful, spacious garden - the kids could not find me in some places! The cottage is spacious and comfortable. Beautiful walks straight from the cottage. I recommend Flaxley Abbey and Welshpool Woods circular route. It is not far to the Forest of Dean from here either so easy to travel there.

  • "Lee and Jane, you can be proud of what you have achieved here!"

A wonderful cottage, well decorated (as real cottages should be) and the views are great. When sitting outside it feels as if you're alone in the valley except from the sheep and goats in the nearby meadows. From this location it is easy to visit both Wales and the Cotswolds and explore these areas, as we did. We enjoyed our stay very much and thanks for your warm welcome and nice chats.

The cottage met everything we could have wished for. Beautiful scenery, a wealth of wildlife, serenity. and most importantly the friendliness of our hosts, Jane and Lee who also provided a generous welcome hamper. The cottage was cosy with a lovely garden filled with numerous flowers and trees affording panoramic views from wherever we choose to sit in it. In fact it met all our expectations for a fabulous weekend break and we hope to return next year. Thank you Jane and Lee for making it a birthday weekend to remember.

  • "The first time we stayed at Rose Tree Cottage was just over a year ago."

On arrival, we were impressed by breathtaking views, cute tidy garden, the warm, quirky cottage and a yummy welcome pack. The days after were filled with a lots of rain. Remarkably, it didn't bother us at all. We were just happy to snuggle inside the cottage, with short walks around in local woods. Our boys loved playing games (especially hide and seek as there were so many rooms and places to hide in), and playing on the trampoline, as well as interacting with the friendly animals (horses, cat, dogs, chickens, rabbits, goats, sheep) We all fallen in love with this particular place and couldn't believe how fast the time went by. Since than we have stayed in the Rose Tree Cottage two more times and we will be returning this summer again! If you go there, make sure to view this fabulous Bus conversion attraction. It is something you don't see very often. There is so much to explore and to do. From apple and pear picking in owner's orchard, to bird-watching to woodland walks, The owners are very friendly and helpful people, who offer full privacy to visitors. Rose Tree Cottage is unbelievably spacious, clean and well presented. Owners care about their visitors a lot, which is shown in small details like bunch of flowers in a vase, welcome-pack, leaving the heating on when it is colder or leaving some lights on if you're arriving late.
