"A real disappointment!"
The property is very much in need of some care. Photos on web, are misleading on what this property is today - you can tell by the hedge they are very old. Cleaning was a little upsetting. Full internal bin, sock on kitchen worktop, mould in teapot (which we cleaned!) microwave was dirty with meat spatters inside. Children play area was with bark in photos but is with grass, needing a cut and lots of stinging nettles, which we tired to remove a few ourself. Sandpit was full of weeds. Photos show flowers pots, but these again were full of weeds. We were a family of 5, yet there was not enough cutlery for us to eat, I do not count a butter knife acceptable for an evening meal. Glasses were lacking. Not the experience the description of the price offered. Description needs updating to take into account current state of property. Photos are grossly misleading and I would recommend to avoid. We decided to go home early, as it was uncomfortable Plus point - a great view

"Upon arrival the bus was clean and bedding was all set up."
Someone came and greeted us and explained how the various things worked ie the wood. We paid £70 for 5 days of wood (instead of the £50 which was advertised). We lost a day's worth of wood due to the owner not answering messages. So £70 for 4 days. The hot tub lid didn't fit however the tub was lovely when we used it, could have been a little warmer. The firepit was used when we had wood and we loved the experience. The children's play area was out of order so we couldn't use it. This was a huge disappointment as we had booked it partly for the children's area. We were told it was broken by the previous family staying which I understand was out of their hands however when we spoke to them prior to our holiday we weren't informed. We loved the uniqueness of the bus and the children adored sitting in the driver seat. Overall we did enjoy the stay we had. We would love to return once it has had some TLC and back to its former glory. It has so much potential.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at The Red Bus but are sorry to hear about the issues that you have raised. We have passed this on to the owner and it is being reviewed. Best wishes, HideAways Property Owner

"We had high hopes for the Red Bus as it looks fantastic on the website."
However on arrival, we were extremely disappointed. The accommodation was much more tired than we were led to believe and a number of things didn't work. There was no hot water, the wi-fi didn't work, the electrics tripped when we boiled the kettle and, despite paying £50 for wood, we never got in the hot tub because it didn't warm up sufficiently and the wood was damp so didn't burn properly. We were informed that the hot water and electrics would be fixed during our stay but they weren't. We were also told the hot water had only just broken, but when we looked in the visitor book, it had broken months ago. We would not recommend at all and if we could give it no stars, we would. When we contacted Sykes about the issues, they could not get in touch with the owners and offered a small goodwill gesture. It is not a good will gesture the facilities we paid for were not delivered. Avoid.
Thank you for your feedback. This property is now under new management and all issues have been rectified. Many Thanks Hideaways Property Owner

"We made the best of the stay because that's how we are."
It was very expensive for the standard of the accommodation. The bus was very tired and not as depicted in the listing. George however was lovely as was the hot tub. I really think that you need to review this accommodation. If we hadn't have been "can do" I would have cut the holiday short after the first night. As it was we left early
Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at The Red Bus. We do appreciate feedback from all our guests and I'm sorry to hear the stay didn't meet our usual high standards. I will pass on your comments to the owner to review and we will be in touch to discuss your points. I hope you enjoyed the hot tub and made the most of your stay by enjoying the wonderful places to visit. Kind regards Hideaways Property Owner

"Quirky accomodation."
Great location. George very helpful and granddaughter enjoyed playing with the animals. However, the shower area needs refurbishment or a good clean. We had no hot water during our stay and from Wednesday afternoon none of the appliances would work due to electrical work that had been carried out by the owner on the site, which meant we weren't able to cater. As a result because of this and the arrival and departure times a weeks holiday became 5 days as left on the thursday after arriving previous Friday evening.
Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're so sorry to hear that you experienced an issue with the shower and lack of hot water. These matters will be looked into and we have already amended the check in and departure times to enable a longer stay. Property Owner

"Nothing like your advert states."
.you need to update as this is very misleading. Electrical wiring needs checking as looking unsafe. Cooker filthy, bedding absolutely disgusting, upon looking under mattress i was horrified I'd allowed my grandsons to sleep on these bunk beds. Went to put them in downstairs double bed,but there were dirty tissues down the side of mattress from previous guests..Cobwebs on hanging kitchen utensils. Microwave dirty..Wood around hot tin infested with wòodworn. Have emailed owner but received sarcastic email back. Ps Lovely setting, Jessie the goat is lovely, the caretaker I believe( not the cleaner as I'm told some one else gets paid to do that) a very nice knowledgeable man.
Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're sorry if the description was in any way misleading and that you encountered cleanliness issues at the property. Please be assured that we will investigate this to ensure that future guests do not have the same experience. Property Owner

"Arrival time off 18."
00 is not good lose a day really and the departure time off 9.00 is too early rushing around on last day as it doesn't take 9 hours to clean ut if next holidayers are arriving at 18.00
Thank you for your feedback and we're sorry if you found the check in and check out times difficult. We will look into this and thank you for bringing it to our attention. Property Owner

"Highly recommended."
My 25 year old autistic son is totally obsessed with buses. This was his dream come true. The bus is amazing and everything has been so well thought of with everything you need. On arrival Archie and his 2 carers were welcomed with drinks of their choice and for 3 nights just had the best time. I went to visit and was even more impressed than when seeing on website. The bus is located on the quiet Gloucestershire countryside and was perfect for my son who doesn't like lots of noise. He loves his nightly hot tub sessions and the guys were so accommodating. Even on last day extended his stay til 3pm as he didn't want to leave. Heating and WiFi all worked well which I was particularly worried about. Thank you George, Lee & Jane. It has made me so happy that Archie just had the best experience. Will be booking again very soon

"We had an absolutely fantastic stay on The Red Bus!"
The hosts could not have done more to make us feel welcome and the bus was everything we had hoped for. Our children loved cooking on the open fire and roaming the woods with our dog. The bus is a gorgeous shabby chic and had everything we needed to feel comfortable. The wood fired hot tub was brilliant and definitely hot!! As a family we really loved the fact that there was no mobile phone reception or WiFi as it meant we called had an enforced screen break and there was so much to do that we didn’t miss it! If we came back I would bring some extra towels as we were in and out of the tub so much abs in a damp October it was tricky to dry things. I would also bring head torches and extra lanterns as it is dark getting down to the bus. I would highly recommend the Red Bus and we would all love to come back again.
Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back any time in the future. Property Owner

"We’ve just returned from a week on the Red bus."
There were 5 of us, 2 adults, three kids and we had a brilliant time. The bedding was freshly laundered and kept us lovely and warm throughout our stay. The kids loved the bunk beds hidden away in the side of the bus. The hot tub was a great addition and even when we didn’t light it until 2 or 3pm it was hot enough for a 9pm dip. It does take a bit of a commitment to keep the fire lit however the owners are happy to help if needed. A highlight for us were the goats in the field in front, such characters!
Thank you for taking the time to leave a feedback, we are delighted you and the kids enjoyed your stay and made good use of the facilities available. Looking forward to welcoming you again soon. Property Owner

"We have just returned from our stay on the red bus, I can honestly that we had a fantastic time."
It is set in a fantastic location with fantastic views everywhere you look. There are lots of things to do in the area all within a 30 minute drive. we loved using the fire pit in the evenings and once the hot tub gets going it does get hot! Nothing really negative to say about our stay, everything was really good. I would definitely recommend a stay here and I would come back.
Thank you for your lovely comments and recommending The Red Bus!. Property Owner

"The Big Red Bus was very cold at night."
It had a damp smell which we tried to get rid of with candles and sprays. The bedding didn't seem that clean so bought duvets from shop. The mattresses in the bunk beds were awful, they were very stained - not very appealing to sleep on. The bus had a lot of cobwebs and was quite dusty. The hot tub was cold despite constantly adding logs to the wood burner therefore we never got the chance to use it. We arrived on Friday 30th July and left on Sunday 1st August. There was a generous hamper on our arrival which was nice. We won't be going back though.
Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at The Red Bus. I'm sorry to hear that your stay didn't meet our usual high standards and i will pass on your comments to the owner to review asap. Property Owner

"Lee, Jane and Louie were totally fantastic from the extremely friendly welcome and the warmest goodbye."
We had such an amazing time. The bus was just fabulously quirky and the surrounding scenery just took your breath away. It was a shame that it went so quickly. We would quite happily have stayed longer. We highly recommend this place and we can’t wait to go back. The hot tub was so lovely to relax in during the evening and the fire pit was so good to snuggle around. If you don’t book this place then you are definitely missing out on an amazing experience.

"Fabulous location, everyone happy; including 3 teenagers."

"Hideaway is not providing a very helpful service with regards to this bus they are hard to contact, the emails suddenly just self delete, they are just taking a big chunk of money to advertise."
The owner and his family are fantastic and the service, cleanliness and experience is second to non.

"It's really quirky and tasteful accommodation!"
Our teenager and younger children all loved staying in the bus. Beautiful little valley. Great to cook over the camp fire and toast marshmallows. We did some great mountain biking in the area. Very helpful hosts - Ray and his dog called Bear.
-
"We had a wonderful three night stay, the bus was perfect for our family (2 adults, 11 and 7 yr old children and one very active dog)."
We were so comfortable we never got to the local pub in the evenings for a meal and the children loved cooking on the open fire. The welcome goodies are inspired and I won't ruin the surprise! The view when you walk up the opposite field is amazing. This bus only opened this summer, all I can say is book now, before everyone finds it!!
-
"I booked the Big Red Bus as a birthday treat for my two granddaughters and their Mum came along for the ride and what a ride it was."
The views from different windows gave the impression that the bus was moving although it was stationary. The peace and tranquillity and fantastic views, the friendly goats and horses together with the friendly hospitality of Jane and Lee made it a truly wonderful experience and we hope to return real soon.
-
"Great place to be and quirky accommodations"
-
"Thank you to Jane and Lee (the owners/creators) for sharing their fabulous Red Bus with us."
It was the most wonderful and relaxing holiday we've ever had. The bus is quirky with a modern twist. We found it really hard to go to bed sat there next to the warm fire, chatting and listening to owls hooting. Located on the door step of Forest of Dean, we would recommend this place to anyone. Woodland walks, real fires, interaction with animals, bird watching bonanza and breathtaking nature that surrounds the Red Bus, along with total privacy, sandpit and large trampoline for kids. The owners really thought of everything. From small details like wild flowers in the vase, to drawing supplies for kids, to children's DVD selection, to comfortable deck chairs for outdoors. We would have no hesitation to recommend the Red Bus to anyone.
-
"We're a family of four, first time in England and bumbled into the Big Red Bus."
Lucky us! I wish we could have stayed longer than two nights: the setting is wonderful, the bus is just the neatest thing, and the hosts hooked us up with a lovely welcome basket that made life easy. Jane and Lee are so creative and nice to boot.
-
"We loved our 4 night stay in the beautifully converted red bus."
The owners have done a truly amazing job of converting the space into really comfortable accommodation. Waking each morning to the sound of sheep bleating across the hillside and then enjoying a morning coffee outside with the most wonderful country view... it was literally a breath of fresh air. Plenty to do locally to keep our young family occupied; cycling and 'go-ape' in the near by Forest of Dean, a day canoeing down the River Wye to Symonds Yat, a visit to the Dutch Gardens in Westbury. After a busy days' activities, what better way to spend the evening than gathered round the camp fire just below the bus. We really did love it here and can't recommend a stay in the bus highly enough!
-
"We had a magical Christmas on this amazing bus which ticked every single box for a peaceful but exciting Christmas."
Me & this bus were made for each other particularly when I discovered The Old School CD, Faithless DVD and Madonna. Everything was pretty perfect and I will be back every season to see how the setting changes in warmer weather - 10/10 recommendation.
-
"Spent a lovely week in a beautiful setting, on a quirky and extremely comfortable red bus."
The welcome pack was lovely and much appreciated and this was cooked on the outside fire. Jane and Lee, as well as Lee's parents were very friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We loved every moment of our stay, from feeding the goats to the fairy lights in the evening, to sitting on the toilet - what a view! We can't find any fault and will be going back again.
-
"We stayed for 2 nights and did not want to leave, it was not long enough."
The bus was amazing and it was so comfortable and so much fun. The surrrounding area is peaceful and idyllic, everything was thought about and it was such a fun stay. We loved it so much that we have booked to return next year.
-
"This was surely the most unusual but fantastic mini-break to date."
From arriving to the time of departure we were totally relaxed. The setting, the accommodation, the friendly goats and the reception we had was second to none. It was the greeting with the goody hamper that set us up for the first night. would we go again? we would be mad not to! So when can we buy it???
-
"So glad we booked the bus!"
Our children had a great time feeding the goats and roaming the site. So much to do in the area and the renovation of the accommodation is absolutely amazing. Fabulous welcoming hosts too. Just wish we stayed longer :D
-
"Booked this as a surprise for my wife's 50th birthday and can honestly say it surpassed all my expectations."
The setting is absolutely magical and the bus has clearly been renovated and designed with much love. Lee and Jane's attention to detail is second to none. Sitting outside in the evening watching all the local wildlife while cooking over the fire pit was an experience not to be missed and Jane had even decorated the bus with birthday bunting and provided a cake and champagne - honestly we didn't want to leave.
-
"Our family had paid for us to spend a weekend at the Red Bus for our 25th wedding anniversary."
What a fantastic gift. Jane and Lee gave us a very warm welcome (including decorating the bus with bunting!). The bus is just great, quirkily converted it retains enough of its original fixtures and fittings (including driver's seat and steering wheel) so you are always aware you are on a bus, but has comfortable bedrooms, galley kitchen, living room and toilet (shower room is in a small building alongside). Outside is a decked area, a fire pit and large area of grass. The Red Bus is set in a quiet valley, so wherever you are in the bus you get a great view of open fields, trees and the wider Gloucestershire countryside. There are some very entertaining goats in the neighbouring paddock. Our two children (girls 8 and 11) loved our stay. It's a great location from which to explore the Forest of Dean, but equally you could have a great break if you never left the bus at all! Despite being close to other houses and holiday let's it still feels remote. (We were told there had been a lovely party taking place nearby during our stay, but we never heard a thing!)\ As a family we couldn't recommend The Red Bus highly enough.

"Lovely caring touches abound from this classic."
.. From gorgeous hamper with Prosecco, eggs, sausages, bacon & butter to cosy comfortable warm beds and an amazing firepit plus beautiful vintage decor (and a loo with a view!), to overlooking goat and sheep pastures plus allowing our dog to roam & become best friends with one of their rescue goats, to helpful information about the local area (thanks for the classic cinema at 2.50 suggestion, we loved the venue and movie on the rainy day) - this has been the best stay ever, thank you Jane and Lee. (ps Local things to do are plentiful (we adored Puzzlewood and the Iron ore mine/cave, were awestruck by the beauty even just driving around, enjoyed Maize Maze - to mention but a few!)
-
"A relative who knows his buses told us that Bristol VRs were beautiful buses in their time."
Well this Bristol VR must be the most beautiful one of all! The craftsmanship and imagination that has gone into its conversion is almost as impressive as the views out of the windows, from the decking and from the firepit area. It is of course limited for space so the bedroom areas are quite tight. There's a small bathroom with toilet at the front of the top deck ahead of the stairs so reasonably well separated with a curtained entrance, but a far more spacious shower room in a building just a few steps away (it would be great if a loo could be put in there too). Outside of the doors there's acres of fields to explore and meet the goats, sheep and horses. Lovely hosts and dog friendly (bottom deck only and owner's dogs show their visitor around).

This property is part of the Manor Cottages collection.
Over 250 carefully selected and perfectly located properties, helping you create your perfect holiday.
