The Log burner was a bonus . Mr Yarworth the host was very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. Our Dog Cooper was very happy that he could run around the field to his hearts content and the garden was completely secure . We have no hesitation in recommending the Old Dairy and would certainly consider booking it again for ourselves. The box of chocolates waiting for us on our arrival was a nice gesture. There were a lot of cobwebs in rooms, the venetian blinds had a thick layer of dust on them. The shower cubicle back panel was grubby and needs replacing. The sealant outside the cubicle is black and mouldy, needs to be resealed. The kitchen extractor didn’t work and the kitchen taps constantly dripped. We felt the garden out back was neglected somewhat with overgrown weeds covering the steps, grass could've been cut and the patio table was filthy with bird poo which wasn't fresh. The front courtyard was untidy with weeds not like the photograph in the listing and the car park had rubbish along the wall which was unsightly.

!" Tiled floor throughout made it easy to keep clean and the secure garden to the rear was perfect for our dogs. There was everything you need in the kitchen, although I did have to do a bit of research to get the oven to work because i couldn't find an instruction booklet; (only the top part of the oven works if the clock is not set, to set the time, press the second and third button in together, hold them in and use the + or - buttons to the desired time then let go.) All in all, an absolutely lovely property. We left our wood basket outside the front door as instructed and it was refilled almost instantly, and it was Christmas Day!! I do apologise for requesting more wood on Christmas Day but I thought we'd be ok until Boxing day. Thank you very much for our box of chocolates with our new logs. It was a really nice touch. Central to a lot of things no matter what you like, we spent a lot of time in the Forest of Dean. The Lyon pub which was only 10 minutes drive did a scrumptious Sunday dinner and the white heart pub 5mins drive did a lovely tea also and I can imagine great in the summer looking over the Severn. Takes dogs as well so recommended it to my daughter as there is a lovely walk over the field right outside the back garden. Local post office and shop had the bare necessities in and they were very friendly. Tesco ect only 15min drive away for anything else. Very warm, heating was on a lot. Garden is a decent size, perfect for our 2 largish dogs. Whilst there we had a couple of issues which Steve the owner did his best to sort out. The fields at the back of the property are ideal to walk the dogs, be careful of the sheep though. At the front of the property if you cross the main road, there is a footpath which is lovely walk along the River Severn. Newnham has a superb little Post Office, which seems to stock everything, it even doubles up as a cafe. There are 3 pubs, the nearest 2 are the black pig & the railway inn, they are great little pubs, but they dont do food, however the white hart which is about a 25 minute walk does great food & is well worth the walk. For days out, Monmouth is well worth a visit, as is Ross on Wye, the Dean Forest steam railway is close & again is worth going to, we went to Gloucester & had a canal trip which was great.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I am sorry to hear you did not find the property suitable. The cable you mention in the property is not an electrical cable, this is for a sensor for a burglar alarm. In addition, the other cable in the wardrobe was for a low voltage battery, this has since been removed. The issue with the cottage was the poor cleanliness of the kitchen and bathroom. We needed to clean the kitchen and bathroom thoroughly, before we felt comfortable to use them. The bathroom is in need of re-decoration. The kitchen is also not very well equipped in some aspects e.g. the crockery supplied is of a poor standard and some mugs were chipped - not good. That said, once we had spent 2 hours cleaning, we had a great time there. Steve, the owner, gave us some local advice re eating out. It felt really safe there. Newnham itself is really nice and there are lots of places to visit. The garden was a real plus, Some of the fixtures and fittings were also to a good standard. He even went out of his way to say goodbye due to meeting us because we were pretty much out all of the time. Nice man nice place would recommend definitely.

It had everything we could have wanted and more. The village itself is quite small but the cottage is in a fantastic location for exploring the Forest of Dean. We only met the owner briefly but he was very helpful! Would love to stay here again!

A real pleasure to stay in, and good location for the Forest of Dean. Only disadvantage was there was constant road noise as it's situated just off the A38 - not a problem unless you're in the garden and noise annoys you!

Newnham itself is a very limited village, only had pub, post office, pharmacy and doctors, but still managed to get around to other towns and villages.

NEWNHAM-ON-SEVERN

Gloucester 13 miles.

The thriving village of Newnham-on-Severn nestles on the banks of the River Severn. The village is steeped in history, and offers specialist shops to suit all interests, along with traditional pubs and cafes. This charming village, part of which is designated Conservation Area, has a tree-lined main street, many listed buildings, a striking central clock tower and is ideally located for watching the spectacular Severn Bore. The Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest, offers numerous trails that can be explored on foot, bicycle or horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high-wire rope course are on offer for the more adventurous, while fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are also available. Gloucester is just a short drive away, where you will find Roman foundations, Victorian docklands and a spectacular Norman cathedral (whose cloisters were used in the Harry Potter films). Littledean with its unique Jail Museum and Quadrophenia Collection, Westbury Court Garden, the only restored water garden in the country and the ancient caves and eerie caverns of Clearwell Caves (as seen in Dr Who and Merlin) make a great family day out. The ancient market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth have excellent shops, pubs and restaurants, plus many black and white timbered buildings, or visit the historic walled town of Chepstow with its celebrated race course and impressive Norman castle.
