  • "We loved the old Swan and all its quirkiness."

No complaints whatsoever, just one suggestion for a second lamp in the sitting room. Sherston is a great village and the people were lovely

Many thanks for the great feedback and noted re. extra lighting in the sitting room. I'm glad you had a great visit and would certainly be welcome back! Property Owner

  • "We were six schoolfriends from Lincolnshire spending our annual reunion in The Old Swan."

The house itself was perfect; comfortable, clean and very tastefully decorated, superbly equipped even down to headed notepaper. The village itself is charming, and it's residents extremely friendly. There are many delightful walks from the doorstep, and we particularly enjoyed visiting Luckington. Despite being a village, Sherston has a Co-op and various places to eat, all of which we can recommend. I have been to many Sykes properties over the years, but this was certainly one of my favourites, and I would recommend it very highly.

Sorry for the delay in replying to this, but thank you for the detailed feedback. I am so pleased that you chose to host your annual reunion at The Old Swan and you thought the house we perfect for the occasion. Your kind words are certainly very much appreciated as we put a lot of effort into ensuring guests enjoy their stay. Sherston is certainly a lovely village and I am pleased you all thought so too. You are welcome back anytime! Property Owner

V high standard all round. We hire cottages on a regular basis as a group and this was definitely one of the best.

  • "We felt at home as soon as we arrived."

There was plenty of room for us all plus our two dogs. Well equipped kitchen. Really comfy lounge and the log burner was wonderful. All the bedrooms where spacious and really super large beds. We loved the village, shop was well stocked. Pub had great food and the Indian did a great takeaway. Good starting point for visiting Bath, Tetbury etc. Will defiantly return.

  • "Rupert was the perfect host."

He responded to emails and messages promptly and helpfully so thanks very much. The house has everything you could need - no need to bring a blender, a mixer, wine stopper, an icemaker ... the list is endless! The kitchen is kitted out well with John Lewis crockery and there are even herbs, spices and cake making ingredients. The freezer compartment in the fridge is not large but the local shop across the road has everything most people could want - including Calpol for babies! The washing machine and dryer work well so no need to pack loads of clothes. The cottage is actually a large house with quirky floors and characteristics which show why it's a listed building! The heating works very well and there's never an issue with a lack of hot water. There's space outside to use the quality charcoal BBQ The beds are firm. The house was clean and tidy when we arrived and we found places to store our food. Decoration - yes a farm vet has clearly left his make and had fun with cows and chickens featuring on mats, serviettes, eg cups etc! The laminated walks were really useful and allowed us to walk from the house to see the area in more detail. The helpful red folder was used many times so thank you.

Highly recommend it, the stairs to the top floor would be tricky for people with mobility issues apart from that absolutely super place

The Old swan is beautiful decorated with soft furnishings and lovely curtains and blinds. The only down side is the house sleeps 8 comfortably but there is not enough cooking equipment for that amount of people for evening meals.

The property

Set in the picturesque Cotswold village of Sherston, close to the pretty towns of Malmesbury and Tetbury, is this charm-filled, Grade II* listed former coaching inn, resting peacefully on the highly sought after main street.

Boasting much character and period details, this spacious property is perfect for families or groups of friends looking to explore the delightful Cotswolds and surrounding areas.

Spread over three floors, the interior is thoughtfully decorated to contrast with the style of the property, from the mullion windows, high vaulted ceilings and exposed country beams, to the quirky household accessories and bright and cheerful colour schemes.

The shades of white cast over the rooms upstairs add a sleek, quality finish to the property.

The blue sitting room showcases a luxurious sofa and elegant seating arrangement, focusing on the charming woodburner in the inglenook of the room.

The quiet cottage comfortably sleeps 8 people spread throughout 4 bedrooms.

On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms, both of which have en-suite bathrooms.

The spacious master bedroom has a luxurious super king bed and the second bedroom has the option of 2 single beds or a super king size bed.

The top floor has a further 2 bedrooms, sharing 1 large bathroom.

Again, one of the top floor bedrooms has a super king size bed and the other has the option of 2 singles or 1 super king size bed.

Concluding the interior in a fashionable manner is the large farmhouse kitchen and breakfast table; combined with contemporary fixtures, white units and modern artwork; the room entices you with a homely feel.

Step out into the west-facing courtyard garden, enclosed by a stone wall, it is beautifully presented with a flourish of wild plants.

The Cotswolds offers a glorious landscape of unspoilt villages, well-tended woodlands and houses that look as though they're made of creamy fudge.

The area is particularly popular with walkers and cyclists and equestrians.

Yet again last year the village of Sherston came in the top 10 most desirable places to live in Britain.

The village boasts a fantastically well stocked village shop, 2 pubs, 2 wine shops and a number of other small businesses including the Angel Hotel and Café (which serves delicious breakfasts and coffee).

Discover the local area and nearby towns of Tetbury and Malmesbury, as well as the larger cities of Bath and Bristol, which are less than a 30 minute drive from the village.

There are several important country houses close by including Badminton, Highgrove and Cirencester Park.

The Westonbirt Arboretum is also a particular highlight.

The Old Swan is a delightful cottage to base your relaxing break in the south-west of England.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
