  • "We loved the barn- amazing location and very well equipped."

Only improvement might be - it would be helpful to have instructions about working the heating - we were sometimes a little bit cold.

  • "I’d highly recommend Peglars Barn."

The design is very modern and the wall to wall windows makes for a fantastic view to wake up to. Some lovely trails in the area too to walk on. If you’re there on a Saturday I’d recommend a trip to Stroud Farmers market.

  • "Peglar Barn’s position overlooking and actually in the Slad Valley made famous by Laurie Lee in his book Cider with Rosie lives up to its description and even, in my opinion, exceeds expectation."

From sunrise to sunset the view across the valley never ceases to fascinate as the light, rain, wind and weather change minute by minute. That the sheep, in very close proximity kept us company along with pheasants, white ducks in the brook, horses, pigeons, magpies, crows, rooks, buzzards, blackbirds and butterflies entertained us all day and the heavenly firmament sparkled on a couple of nights. THE most restful and restorative week in a first class equipped conconverted barn.

  • "We had a good stay at Peglars Barn."

We have seen deer and foxes. The only thing that could be better are clean windows. Many stains from dead mosquitoes and hands were on the windows. When you look outside you don't want to see that. Otherwise a great place.

  • "Lovely setting, great view of the valley and brook."

Quiet, but with some noise from sheep, crows, and geese that sometimes interfered with sleep. Internet was not working for the full week. The location of Peglars Barn is in the center of the Laurie Lee Wildlife Way nature walk, so it is possible to do half of that loop and then return to the cabin in about 3 hours.\ \ The Woolpack Pub (20-minute walk, up the hill) was not excellent, but it is fine for a meal out.\ The highlight of our week in the Cotswolds was the guided walk around Uley, by Kate Thompson of cotswoldguidedwalks.com . She is very knowledgeable, charming, and took us on a great tour through the area. We hired her for a private guided walk, at a little higher cost, but we found it to be very good value, and we would recommend her highly.\ \ \

The property

You'll feel calm and in pure luxury here in Peglars Barn.

Deep down in a valley in the heart of the Cotswolds hills Outside Slad sits this outstanding retreat which has been given the uber-contemporary makeover.

An exceptional hideaway for a couple, you will be located in a hidden valley on the Laurie Lee Wildlife Way, beautifully isolated and with incredible views across the hills.

The views are mesmerizing and totally uninterrupted, you can see the countryside change before your eyes with the sheep, the occasional horse and the birds coming and going.

Totally open plan with clever sliding doors between the bedroom and living area but with an entire 'wall' given over to glass sliders (windows that can be pulled back entirely) you have total view of the hills from your chair, your table or you bed.

Furnished beautifully the style is a mix of chic with an industrial tone - you'll be as snug as bug with the underfloor heating and with luxury furnishings you'll be so relaxed you won't want to leave.

You could walk for hours and not touch a road, or better still you could stay in bed and simply watch the clouds pass by.

The Cotswold's has something undeniably gorgeous with this romantic bolt hole.

Even in mid winter we were awe-struck at this place, you will be too!

About the location

Gloucester 9.5 miles; Cirencester 13 miles.

The town of Stroud is known as the less commercial corner of the Cotswolds, a somewhat bohemian collection of buildings, squares and lanes, tucked into the green hills which once housed countless sheep during the town’s time as the centre of the Cotswold’s woollen industry. Today, Stroud welcomes visitors to its friendly cafes, quaint bookshops, independent shops and tempting eateries. Described by Jasper Conran as the ‘Covent Garden of the Cotswolds’, Stroud has a regular farmers' market, year-round programmes of music and theatre, a thriving arts scene and a state-of-the-art cinema. For simply relaxing, Stratford Park on the edge of town offers lakeside walks, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a museum. Head out of town to explore the five sweeping valleys which surround it, with country lanes just made for walking or cycling.
