  • "Our stay at Jacdaw Cottage was wonderful!"

The hosts decorated the house beautifully for the Christmas season, and we were welcomed to a clean and cosy home. The property was furnished with stylish and original features, and we found the beds, sofa, and chairs to be extremely comfortable. The hosts were very generous in leaving us a Pannetone, juice, and fruits as a welcoming treat. The warmth of the house and the logs provided for the fireplace made the Christmas feel even more special. The kitchen had everything we needed for our short trip, and we were able to cook a delicious Christmas meal using the oven. The bathroom was also completed to a high standard and had a lovely rainfall-style shower head. The bathroom is the only bathroom, which is shared among all guests. The property can comfortably accommodate four people and a dog. The car parking space was also very convenient, and we were able to park our small MPV with ease. Previous reviews have commented on the parking and we had no issues with this. We found it easier to reverse down the very quiet T road and parking in the space. Otherwise, if you aren't a confident parker, you can park on the main road and it is a 20-second walk to the property, down the slope. The village of Blockley is picturesque and typical Cotswold look and stone properties. The village has two pubs, a small café, and an excellent shop that sells local food items. We particularly enjoyed visiting the Great Western Arms (a less than 2 min walk from Jacdaw cottage), which is dog friendly and had a great selection of food and drinks and very friendly, welcoming staff. Overall, we had a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas stay at Jacdaw Cottage, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. We would happily and look forward to booking this beautiful cottage again.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Jackdaw Cottage. It really does sound like you had a magical Christmas at Jackdaw Cottage and thank you for the wonderful feedback. I know the Owners will be so happy to hear you enjoyed staying and from the sounds of it, you explored the area and enjoyed many of the local sites that Blockley has to offer. We really hope we can welcome you back again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Cosy little cottage, just perfect for a short break."

There were just two of us but would be quite small for four adults although certainly both double bedrooms were very pleasant and the whole property is very well presented. Well equipped kitchen with nice welcome with milk, tea and coffee, crisps, biscuits and chocolates. Lovely and warm (it was November) and super cosy with wood burner in the evening in the comfortable sitting room. Super little bathroom with excellent hot shower. Good Wi Fi as you would expect for a small place. Wasn’t quite sure where to put recyclable waste so it would be helpful to leave some instructions for bottles and cans, paper and food waste etc. Other reviewers have quite rightly commented on the parking which is basically impossible, not just the size of the spot but the very steep slope (prob about 1:3) leading down. Top tip is don’t even try to drive down to the cottage but park on Station Road as it’s only 20 yards or so to walk down. However Blockley is a lovely village, the food at the local pub (The Great Western Arms) was excellent. Overall a very good place.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Jackdaw. It sounds like you had a wonderful stay and i hope you made the most of the lovely little cafes and shops in Blockley. We will pass on your feedback with regards to the recycling details and get this checked, as they should be in the cottage for guests. With regards to the parking space, it does show on the website, but it is only suitable for a small car, but still a bonus, as most homes don't have parking in Blockley. We would love to welcome you again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Lovely chocolate box cottage in the beautiful village of Blockley."

Cottage did not disappoint and was very cosy and clean. The Great Western pub which is a stone throw away was perfect and the food was delicious! The only negative was the car parking, we had a big car and couldn’t park on the driveway as the hedges and trees needed cutting back and we would’ve scratched all the car. They really need to take some of the wall away on the driveway and trim back all the hedges/trees on the path down to the cottage on snugborough lane.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your time away and we appreciate your suggestions. Please bare in mind that this is a period property and we do show the size of the parking space on our website. If you ever have any questions about any of our properties in the future, please don't hesitate go contact us. We hope to welcome you again one day in the future. Best wishes, Manor Cottages. We had a very happy short break at Jackdaw Cottage - helped by amazingly sunny autumnal weather. The cottage is very cosy with everything you could possibly need including very comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. It’s a wonderful village to walk round with a community cafe and village shop, great pub up the road ( delicious food) and the church featured in Father Brown. In easy driving distance of so many beautiful villages, NT properties and gardens. Highly recommended!

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Jackdaw. It's always lovely to hear when guests have had a fabulous stay with us. It sounds like you really explored the Cotswolds. My only complaints are the very small fridge and freezer and the very difficult parking space. if you have a large car it is extremely difficult to get into the space and the lane is very steep off it. easier to reverse in. you can't open both car doors if parked in the space I had to get out before parking up.

  • "The cottage is clean, comfortable, well presented and is situated in the lovely village of Blockley which is a good location for touring the Cotswolds."

Unfortunately on arrival we experienced great difficulties accessing the parking space and finally had to spend the week parked in various places on the main road. As there are no advisory arrival details provided I would strongly suggest that guests check it out before driving down the little lane where the cottage is situated, especially if you have a larger car. It’s also maybe worth mentioning there isn’t a cupboard to store supplies if your doing self catering and if anyone in your party has mobility issues the stairs are quite steep and the step to the shower makes it tricky getting in and out.

The house is really well presented. It is comfortable, excellently decorated, super beds - all in all a home from home. Hidcote Gardens and Chipping Camden are a short drive away. We were a family of four with 2 children (3 and 5). What we loved: a. Location was excellent as it was close to the main restaurants, small grocery and park. b. The cottage was very clean, with all the appliances and more than satisfactory amount of cutlery. c. Ownership: was very responsive and even dropped off a barbecue which was a lovely addition to our early summer. d. Sleeping was more than adequate; clean linens, room and spacious enough e. Spring was a little chilly, but the fireplace was excellent addition and logs were locally sold. Very nice for us to sit down, have a glass of wine and contemplate our next day’s journey. f. The Great Western Arms has excellent food made from scratch and perhaps was one of the better meals in the region. The cottage is about 50 feet away from this restaurant. Overall, this cottage has nearly everything you would need. We were grateful for our stay and experience :) We would love to come back.

  • "This is a beautiful, mostly comfortable cottage."

The beds were comfortable. The sofas and armchairs were comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and had a good-sized shower cubible with good water pressure. Wifi coverage in the house was good. The fridge is only a small larder fridge, so don't buy too much food. We stayed here for a week in January and found the house quite cold even with all of the electric heaters switched on. We definitely needed to put the fire on. A basket was full of logs when we arrived, which was enough for fires on two afternoons - although we were not supplied with any fire lighters so had to go buy our own. Many cottages provide a welcome pack of say a pint of milk and a pack of biscuits, but none was provided here - so make sure you bring whatever you need to make a tea or coffee. Most cottages have instructions on recycling, but there were none here. I would have liked instructions in the manual on recycling. I did have a question for the company that manages the cottage: there's a name and mobile phone number prominently displayed in the cottage. I texted the number on Saturday and had yet to receive a reply 6 days later - so I was disappointed by the customer service provided by the company that manages the cottage. However, the property itself was clean and comfortable. The local pub was buzzy and had a simple but good menu. The local cafe was dog friendly downstairs. The NISA shop next door to the cafe had a decent range of products at reasonable prices, too. Overall, we enjoyed our trip very much.

  • "Lovely cottage in the Cotswold."

Very nice location in Blockley, close to the village center, few meters from the pub. Village in the north of Cotswold not far from the other nice historic villages. The cottage is confortable, and calm. A beat cold the first two days, and then OK. The beds are very confortable, and the rooms a good size. The equipment of the cottage are minimalist and low quality (Ikea for most of them). Only 4 forks, 4 plates, ... which oblige to run the washing machine after each meal. Owner let logs for 2 days only and then recommend to buy more, Taking into account the price of the rent, it would have been expected to leave more logs (even if logs are cheap). Character cottages has a nice choice of cottages, but the client service support is very poor, and for some period of time outsourced to another company very unprofessional. They did not recognized the reservation number communicated by Character cottages, and stated that they have "+ 20 cottages with the same name" ?! it took 10mn to find my reservation.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Jackdaw. I will pass on your comments about only 4 plates etc to the owner, but as a rule we advise owners to have enough for double the occupancy. With regards to logs, we do normally only provide a starter pack of logs, but you can buy logs at pretty much any petrol station in the Cotswolds. With regards to our customer service, we pride ourselves in providing a very good level or service and as a rule we do provide this. Unfortunately it sounds like when you spoke to Reservations, it was when we where integrating Character Cottages bookings onto our new system, hence booking numbers would be different. Apologises if it took time to find your booking, but we all have to learn the new process. We hope to welcome you back again in the future and with a smoother booking process for you. Property Owner

Didn't quite know what to expect - they always look better in the photos when you book them, well the photos didn't do it justice, it was absolutely beautiful (would love to live in it) it was spotless, a lot larger than I thought it would be, furnishing were great, comfy sofas, such comfortable beds. Had everything and more. We had a wonderful time there in Blockley which is possibly one of the most beautiful places to stay/visit in the Cotswolds, over the years we have stayed in numerous places but this is definitely the best. Eating out is a must, we really enjoyed the meals at the Great Western - super close - just a few yards up the road - very welcome after such long and lovely walks all around the area, it was good to come back in the evening, settle down in our own little home, all comfy - we feel rejuvenated especially after lock down - thank you - we will definitely be back.

The cottage is about five minutes’ walk from my house and so it was ideal for me to hire for my son, daughter-in-law and small grandchild to stay in while visiting us and other relatives. My son and family live in South Korea. The cottage was most convenient in every respect and a very good centre for people visiting the Cotswolds on holiday. Although my son and family were on holiday, they were not here as Cotswold tourists. The owner of the cottage, with whom I have become acquainted, was absolutely superb and very, very helpful and understanding of my needs. For example, I asked if I could provide a stair gate to protect my grandchild and he insisted on providing one for us at no extra charge. I cannot speak too highly of the facilities and equipment which the cottage provided. My son and family were thoroughly at home there and I would certainly hire it again if the occasion arose.
