  • "We had a wonderful time at The Malins; smashing quirky property and very clean and well presented."

Very comfortable beds. Lots of games to play, some of which we had not encountered before. We loved eating in the grand dining room and playing games in the little snug. Having cat treats left out for Wilbur our cat on arrival was a sweet touch.

Clean, bright, well equipped and spacious. We were 3 friends travelling together so it was a real treat to have 3 ensuite bedrooms. The host was friendly and helpful which we appreciated too. The Malins is a great base to explore the Cotswolds with loads of great places to visit nearby including Broadway Tower & Batsford Arboretum . We enjoyed a 1.5 hour easy circular walk from the village & ended up at The Great Western Arms for a tasty Sunday lunch!

The house was very clean and comfortable, with two sitting rooms, large dining room with a lovely large dining table, nice size kitchen, utility room and three ensuite bathrooms. The beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms a good size. This property was the best equipped holiday place we had ever stayed in. I even had a little torch in my bedside table. It has a lovely garden at the front where we sat and drank the 4pm wine. It was a lovely place to stay and we felt very relaxed staying there. Added to all this, Blockley was an ideal central place to tour the Cotswold, with all the main attractions and places within easy reach. We had a great holiday.

  • "The inside of property was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped."

Blockley is a beautiful village. However, there were a few issues with the cottage. On arrival the front garden had not been cleared of dog poo, but the owner was quick to sort this out when we raised it - but this should be checked before guests arrive. The dishwasher was broken for half of our stay, which was a shame (as we specifically choose places with dishwashers). There are some maintenance issues at the property and it generally needed a bit of TLC: e.g. loose sockets in the king bedroom, the shower in double room had poor power, very poor drainage and temperature control - the shower tray overtopped with water on one occasion. The toilet seat in the utility room needs fixing back on as it has come loose. Curtains don't shut in some of the rooms - and given how cold it was during our stay it would have been good to be able to close them to keep in more warmth. The gutters near the patio need cleaning out - water gushes over the top when it's raining. No comments on the twin bedroom as we didn't use it. Other things for guests to be aware of: the twin and double bathrooms have macerators which can be noisy. When you turn on the bathroom light (in the double room) it also turns on a main light in the bedroom. The property is located on a housing estate away from the older part of the village.

The location, although on a housing estate, was quiet and safe with easy access to walks from the door and short drives to many picturesque Cotswolds villages. Decoration needs attention, as does some sockets which as hard to turn on/off. Old sockets have faceplates missing or hanging. Working clock Inna living room would have been useful and mirror in main bathroom. Heating and hot water noisy especially in biggest bedroom where tank is located. Had to turn off overnight. Also does not get very warm. Plenty of rads but they don't get hot. This is a semi detached, and neighbours were noisy when we stayed. Rear entrance had unfinished plaster work where access made to owners connected residence.

Everyone enjoyed their holiday. A very spacious holiday home, we enjoyed having a space for quiet activities such as making jigsaw puzzles and the separate TV lounge. The dining room was a fantastic size, big enough for our home cooked meals. The toilets in two rooms are noisy, but we didn't flush these at night, there was no smell, although I did bring toilet cleaner just incase. The comments in previous reviews are off putting and unfair. The property was clean and perfect if you want a centrally located and a spacious holiday home. Having en-suite facilities for an entirely adult party is a real bonus. I would request the following items are added to the kitchen a whisk, a sieve, scales and beer or squash glasses. Thank you to the owners who communicated with us but we never met.

Jane is nearby if needed but she doesn’t impose on your stay. The position of the property is fantastic. The picture did not show it adjoining an estate. The toilets were very noisy to the point they rumbled for a while after flushing and coukd be heard all over the house . Darent flush them on a night as you didn't want to wake people...Spiders and cobwebs in the corners of most rooms. Doors were vicious when closing.. slammed because fire doors I'm assuming. Place was tired.. carpets worn on stairs shower cubicles tired... needs some TLC . I paid too much for my stay here. The write up needs to include details of the location and details stating two of the toilets were macerators. Location for the cotswolds was good and beds clean however I felt I was overcharged for my holiday in this accommodation......

  • "Good location with lots to see and do in the area."

The clever external marketing photos gave the expectation of a much older and more characterful property. However, the whole property was quite sad and tired and in desperate need of a good clean - this was very worrying given the current issues with Covid and the need for good hygiene/infection control measures. The property would definitely benefit from a full top to bottom refurb - the plumbing in particular was prone to being very noisy and required the macerating toilets to be turned off at night. It is what used to be called "cheap and cheerful" however sadly it was neither of these things and certainly, in my opinion, not worth the weekly rate we were charged.

(must be the old fire doors when it was used as a B&B) i suggest whilst its being used as a whole house rental that something be done with those heavy doors. Horrible Intermittent poo smell even when loo had not been used upstairs and downstairs. Very damp smell in laundry room too. If those issues are addressed then its a great house. We do feel we should be compensated because of the doors and horrible smells. Hopefully we will hear off the owner regarding this soon, when cottages.co.uk has contacted the owner.

  • "This is a lovely property, in a lovely location."

Communications from the owner were also excellent when any issues did arise. I would point out that it is still essentially set up as a B&B, so be aware that bedroom doors have stiff self closures, but that is a small negative against the fact that the bedroom and general facilities were plentiful. The only other negatives were poor mobile reception and some slight damp smells from a couple of the bedroom en suites. Everything else required for a great family break was on hand, for example, the washer dryer helped to ensure that walking clothes could be refreshed, regardless of the weather. The locality was very pleasant, and walks from the property were numerous and well detailed within the information pack. We all enjoyed the Heart of England trail, from the property, and walks a short drive away at Dovers Hill and Broadway tower. Moreton in the marsh provided shops and pubs (would recommend the Sunday kunch at the Redesdale arms), and the Blockley pub was also good, and only a short walk up the hill.

The village itself was unbelievably beautiful with an excellent village shop and fantastic village cafe / restaurant.
