  • "A very enjoyable stay."

...Infact our 3rd visit to Stow but 1st to Pike Cottage which is a lovely old house in a great location to explore Stow by foot and surrounding area. Very comfortable place but the parking is a problem. It's clearly stated that it's on street parking but due to Stows popularity we found it virtually impossible (September) to park anywhere close to the house at all and most times I'd drop my wife and invariably park up the top end of the Town . Loved the quirky character and charm of Pike Cottage and the fact there's Netflix and Amazon Prime but found the kitchen lacked a few key utensils when we cooked in the house eg: spatula to cook in frying pan. We slept in the main bedroom with ensuite and was very comfortable bed plus loved the fact there was a bath in ensuite too. Lovely characterful dining room oozing charm and all in all a lovely house. We were also fortunate enough to be able to enjoy the garden as had lovely warm sunny weather too

  • "The cottage location is excellent, just a few minutes walk to the shops in Stow."

The cottage is full of character and a lovely place to stay, we were there for a girly weekend and it was perfect, the kitchen particularly was great as it had plenty of space for us all to sit down. Only minor criticisms: (1) the welcome book says not to touch the heating, but we had to turn it off as it was BOILING. Set to 20 degrees all night so we were roasting, it was easy enough to turn it off on the controls but would have been better for it to be set to a more normal temperature! (2) tidying up instructions were unclear, they referenced putting bedding into bags provided but we couldn’t find these. Not sure if they were old/outdated instructions as they referenced Covid a lot too. (3) very little was provided in terms of bin bags, loo roll and basic cleaning products. The biscuits and crisps were a nice touch, but some basics would have been more useful. All very minor things though and I would stay again.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're glad that you and your friends loved the cottage and convenient location. Thank you also for highlighting some housekeeping issues which we have passed on to the Property Manager - we hope this didn't impact your stay and that we can welcome you again. We had a really lovely weekend. Our only gripe was that it was hard to find. It would be helpful if the instructions were a little higher up the email. They are right at the bottom of the key collection email and the postcode doesnt lead you anywhere close to the property!

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Pike Cottage. It's lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay with us, it's a fabulous spot to explore the Cotswolds and with all the lovely places to eat on your doorstep. • "The cottage is beautiful and well located in village, we had a few issues."

The en-suite bathroom toilet didn’t flush properly, the shower in the main bathroom was very temperamental, there was a leak in the dining room from the skylight. I would really suggest changing the carpet on the stairs from the top bedroom, on Monday morning I slipped on the stairs hit my right knee and crashed into radiator at bottom hitting my head. So our first day was a right off as I was battered and bruised.

Thank you for your feedback, Pike Cottage is a fabulous location for visiting Stow and the surrounding areas. We will certainly investigate into the issues you have raised in your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Cotswolds soon. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We loved this quirky cottage but there was a major disappointment with the bathrooms."

The second floor only has a shower and handbasin which means if you are not young (like us) you had to go down steep and narrow stairs to spend a penny during the night! Madness not to have installed toilet and handbasin as there is a shower on first floor. This was not clear in the description. Also although there were instructions to put linen from beds in clear bags there were no clear or black bags provided!

Many thanks for your feedback and comments, we do aim to make the information on the website as clear as possible, and it is stated in the details that the second floor room only has a shower and washbasin. Nonetheless the property does boast three toilets, two in the first floor bathrooms and one in the ground floor cloakroom. The unique character of Pike Cottage is something that guests enjoy as part of their holiday to the Cotswolds. Thank you for offering to strip the beds, however this was only a requirement during the covid pandemic. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

The lounge was "quirky" and although rather dark it was ok for watching a few tv programs. The property had been well cleaned before our arrival but as we where probably the last let of the season the carpets needed cleaned. They were in a bad way, the lounge, stairs and bathroom floors did not look the least bit hygenic and none of us walked on them in our bare feet. The kitchen was well equiped and everything was clean and in working order. We found our bed (first floor) comfortable but small and the ensuite needs a bit of work done on it but as I said it is the end of the summer season and the owners will probably freshen it up for next season.I trust the owners will accept these comments as fair comment but I do have plenty photos to back up my honest opinions.

Thank you for comments, we appreciate you taking the time to inform us. Pike Cottage is an extremely popular cottage and we will look into all points you have raised and look to rectify over the low season. Many Thanks Manor Cottages Property Owner

I cannot rate this property highly enough, it was clean very comfortable and just a pure delight to stay in with all the cubby holes and wonky rooms it has character by the bucket load. I am quite tall so had to bend my head to some rooms, but it was not a drama. The kitchen is well stocked, the bathrooms are fabulously quirky, the shower in one is not very powerful, I have long hair and had to give up, however this may have been more user error than an actual issue. I would love to stay here again and would highly recommend the property. Thank you to the owners for letting us stay in your beautiful home.

There was everything you could possibly need for your weekend. My bed was pretty comfortable, but the people who slept in the twin room on the first floor complained about how uncomfortable the beds were. The mattresses we really bad when I looked at them. I work in a bed shop and they were in a very bad condition to be honest. They are even acceptable for a light child as you could feel the springs. It was also a bit disappointing that there didn't seem to be a way to separate the recycling in the house and outside too. These were the only areas which I think could be improved. Otherwise it was a great stay and we all enjoyed ourselves. Thanks very much.

Thank you very much for providing us with your feedback. We particularly enjoyed the log burner as the nights were darker and colder. There was a problem of no logs in the basket when we arrived but this was quickly sorted after a phone call. The large kitchen was a great place for all of us to gather round the table for breakfast ….and for the evening meal when we didn’t eat out. There is a more formal dining room but we preferred the kitchen. The double beds were very comfortable. The twin beds were a little short for our two adult sons who found their feet handing off the end. The bed in the single room was rather squeaky! We all managed to find parking spaces near to the Cottage which was good. The sitting room had comfortable seating which was lovely when relaxing in the evening ..watching TV or playing games. The location of the cottage is very convenient for walking into Stow or for visiting a number of nearby places by car …we went to Bourton on the Water , Sudeley Castle and Daylesford Organic Farm . We all really enjoyed our short break in the Cotswolds.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your stay at Pike Cottage. It's lovely to hear you enjoyed your time at the cottage. We will investigate the squeaky bed as soon as we can! Thank you for your local recommendations - these will come in handy for future guests! Property Owner

..Right downtown so walking around Stowe was very enjoyable. The little court yard area just inside the gate was filthy! There certainly had not had a gardener there in ages. The toilet upstairs off the main bedroom was impossible! You never could depend on it flushing properly. It would be nice to know how old the cottage is. It must be hundreds of years old. • "We had a fantastic four nights in this beautiful cottage."

It is perfectly located in the picture postcard town of Stow-on-the-Wold, with a number of pubs, cafe's and shops right on the doorstep. There are also some lovely walks which start from the town and meander through villages, countryside and woodland. It's also a short car journey to Bourton-on-the-Water and the Cotswold Wildlife Park; both well worth a visit. The pictures don't really do justice to just how pretty and homely the cottage is. We loved sitting around the farmhouse kitchen table for our big family dinners and a glass of wine (or two!). We were very pleased to find some milk in the fridge and a few teabags on our arrival. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are relatively spacious for a cottage. The stairs are not too steep so generally suitable for young children and elderly. The garden has a big heavy gate so we weren't particularly worried about our youngster getting out onto the main road. At our request, a standard push down travel cot was provided. *Bring your own travel cot mattress if you have one as, like all travel cots, the base is quite hard.* Also provided was an IKEA high chair; perfect for any age feeding baby. Just a few things to be aware of: Parking is on the road outside. It's free but there are limited spaces. We had three cars but didn't have any problems parking over the week. The ceilings are very low, especially in the kitchen. My husband is 6ft 5in which meant a bit of neck ache for him. There really isn't much of a garden, and what there is doesn't get any direct sunlight. The shower (over the bath) on the first floor family bathroom was a little tricky to get the right temperature. We had to make sure the Hive was on and the temperature setting on the shower was at a certain point. Maybe some clearer instructions would be helpful. The single bedroom does get noise from passing traffic because a main road runs right past the cottage. However, it's an acceptable level of noise considering it is located in the centre of town.

    Reviewed by Katy5.0Jul 2019

  • "It's worth highlighting how low the ceilings are as this can significantly affect a tall individual/group from enjoying the cottage."

The cottage is also a little difficult to navigate for elderly people who find it difficult to walk or manoeuvre around anything but the most straightforward dwellings. There was also a vague smell of damp in the cottage, but it wasn't off-putting. On the plus side, the cottage feels homely, is well stocked and has good facilities, although the shower on the top floor is a little awkward to enter in and out of. The welcome crisps and caramels were a nice touch. The cottage is well located with respect to the village, and parking although not private, didn't cause us any problem.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We were sorry to hear that certain aspects of the cottage had an impact on your stay. It is never our intention to mislead guests, and hope that the photos show a clear and accurate reflection of the accommodation. Most pictures clearly show that this is a period property, and that most of the rooms have beamed ceilings, which by their very nature mean that they are usually lower than those in more recently constructed properties. Hopefully the pictures also indicate that this is not a 'straightforward' dwelling - something which most guests in this, and in similar properties, see as an advantage. Where a property has aspects that we feel need to be highlighted then we make particular mention of them in the description: in this case we make note (in the summary) of the fact that some of the bedrooms are accessed via steep staircases. However, we have taken on board your comments regarding the ceiling height and have slightly amended the property description to take this into account. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

You can easily walk to all amenities in STOW ON THE WOLD and although it is on the main high street it still felt very private. Only small downside is the garden is a small patio that doesn't get any direct sunlight. Also the place could have been cleaned better as it was quite dusty and the place its self is quite dark but you can usually expect that from cottages.

Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase.
