  • "A beautiful cottage in a gorgeous village, very friendly locals as well."

Lots of footpaths and walks in the area although rather muddy when we were there, but, not specified in cottage details, there is a hosepipe behind the cottage that is excellent for hosing off muddy dogs before you let them in! Kitchen diner is lovely but sofas and chairs can be a bit low if you have arthritis. However over all a lovely cosy base when we were visiting friends and family.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. we are very pleased that you and your dogs enjoyed the cottage and all your "muddy" walks! Best wishes Manor Cottage Property Owner

  • "A nice cottage, could do with repairing a few things though!"

Lovely location and great walks. Would have been nice to have information on dog walks etc but we found our own, and info for bin days/ instructions etc.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Swan View. We really appreciate your feedback and we will pass on your comments to Owner/Housekeeper for review. The cottage should have information about bins, but again we will get the Housekeeper to check this, so thank you for bringing it to our attention. I will ask if they have any maps that could be updated in the cottage. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

Very nice inside. Spacious. Good walking with your dog just opposite. Good secure garden also. The chair in living room needs to be either changed or have seating cushion replaced. Very difficult to get out of once you are sitting in it. We found the key safe was also quite awkward to get into.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Swan View. It's lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and we will arrange for the Owner to look at the cushion. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "We liked the village location of Swan View cottage and its proximity to Lechade on Thames with its pubs, cafes and shops."

A pint of milk and a bottle of wine were left for us on arrival which was appreciated. The overall standard of accommodation at the cottage is good. The lounge, kitchen and dining areas are all a decent size and tastefully decorated. The cottage also benefits from a pleasant and a neat garden with seating. There’s also a conservatory which is a lovely place to relax. The cottage is reasonably well equipped, but there was no toast rack, or shaver socket in the bathroom. Only one hand towel was provided, luckily we brought a couple of our own. The freezer needed defrosting and the kettle needed descaling. On the negative side the bathroom was in dire need of a refresh, we were told that there are plans to do this. The shower riser rail is too low and the bathroom window is a poor fit and is draughty. Parking on the drive could be an issue for some as there is an awkward slope which makes it difficult to reverse onto; made worse by the cottage being on a bend restricting visibility. There was no information pack providing the usual useful information you would normally expect; details of local shops, GP, vet, hospital, local amenities, pubs, public transport etc. There was no fire escape plan either which is a serious omission and which needs to be remedied. Overall we felt the cottage was quite good but could be a lot better if the above issues were addressed.

Especially the toilets and bathroom. The kitchen extractor leaked grease. The blue chair in the living room is no longer suitabel for sitting. The garden was hardly maintained.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We are sorry to hear that you encountered some issues with the toilets and bathrooms. Had you contacted the Property Manager, these would have been resolved straightaway during your stay. The kitchen extractor fan has now been fixed and the gardening done as the storms and rain prevented the gardener from attending for a few days. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

Lots of walking from door,Lechlade and river in both directions very picturesque and no shortage of places to visit by car either.Everything was provided in cottage that we needed, kitchen well equipped and roomy and outside the garden was secure for our dog.Only neg is that bathroom is going to need a little TLC soon but doesn’t detract from this being a lovely cottage. Oh and having a hedgehog wandering in the garden in the evening was the icing on the cake for me!

Thank you for your fabulous feedback, it's great to hear how much you have enjoyed staying. We will pass on your comments about the bathroom to the Owner and Housekeeper to review. The stairs were very steep for my elderly mother and myself, as I we have mobility issues but a fully mobile person should be fine. :( ) The cottage was very clean and welcoming. Lots of room downstairs especially for the 2 of us and our Labrador Molly. Shame there isn't a 3rd bedroom as this would be perfect for a larger group. Facilities are moire than adequate throughout the cottage. Dog walking in the village is so handy (across the road and into the massive fields beyond) and there is a useful back garden. In all the property is ideal, although local facilities are few and far between..... The area has lots to offer and the walks from Southrop to EastLeach Turville over the fields and from The Trout Inn to The Riverside Inn at Lechlade are super short and easy picturesque outings. A really enjoyable stay, thank you.

The property

Resting in a peaceful lane, in the picture-postcard village of Southrop, next to the village green, is this lovely semi-detached Cotswold stone cottage, Swan View.

With a pretty south-west facing garden, the property is the perfect getaway for a small family or group of friends alike who are seeking a relaxing break in this stunning part of the Cotswolds.

Park-up on the gravel driveway and be welcomed into the entrance hall where you can kick off your shoes and enter into the beautifully-presented sitting room that has wooden flooring and an eye-catching exposed brick fireplace containing a wood and coal burning stove, perfect for getting crackling on a cold winter evening and snuggling up on the sofas to watch a movie on the Smart TV.

A smart and light country-style kitchen provides a space where you can prepare picnics for your walks into the Cotswolds or rustle up a hot meal for your guests with the electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and freezer, and you’ll also find a dishwasher to make cleaning up a breeze!

Tuck into your meals in the lovely dining room at the large wooden dining table, before catching the sunset sat on the Rattan sofa and two chairs in the beautiful conservatory, where French doors lead out to the large, mature rear garden, with planted borders, fruit trees and a lawn area, where you can dine in warmer months underneath the umbrella at the outdoor seating area.

Be sure to make use of the charcoal barbecue in summer months!

Back inside, a utility/cloakroom and a snug room complete the ground floor.

When night falls, tuck the kids into bed in the single room which has an additional 75cm wide pull-out single bed available on request, and head into the bight and spacious king-size room to get some rest for the night.

In the morning, make your way into the shower room for an invigorating rinse before getting ready to head out for the day.

Swan View is surrounded by the stunning Cotswolds countryside, and you will find The River Leach runs past the village where there is an abundance of walks from the doorstep of the cottage, including the Cotswolds Walk from Southrop to Eastleach which takes you along the River Leach, across the beautiful Cotswold countryside and on to the pretty village of Eastleach.

Eastleach is a twin village consisting of Eastleach Martin and remains unspoilt by modern times, with more than 60 listed buildings.

The two villages are connected by a traditional stone clapper bridge, a series of piers supporting a row of flagstones.

The route then returns south, back to Southrop through open countryside.

Burford, the “gateway to the Cotswolds” is close by, which is a town with some fantastic shops, restaurants and tourist attractions including Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, a landscaped parkland filled with nature and also Tolsey Museum, which has local history, culture, and industry collections.

The market town of Cirencester is well worth a visit, and you will find an array of shops along the Market Place and can brush up on some history at Corinium Museum which shows impressive Roman artifacts that have been well-preserved.

Gather together with your loved ones to enjoy the scenic countryside of the Cotswolds and stay at Swan View.
