Beautiful cottage My only issue was the cutlery, it is very nice but if i am on holiday I don’t want to do washing, perhaps simple cutlery that can go in the dishwasher would be better Also, there were some spider webs around the lamps in the lounge and in the skylight in the bathroom Minor things, overall an amazing cottage

  • "Beautifully designed cottage in a wonderful position."

The description and photos are accurate although the garden is small but big enough for a summer BBQ. Loads of walks from the cottage as well as delicious pubs and restaurants near by. Lovely place to just chilling in front of the wood burning fire. Kirstin as well as checking that everything was as it should be left a really detailed folder not only of the cottage but of local places to visit as well as pubs and restaurants too. Would definitely return for a peaceful get away in the Cotswolds. Thank you Kirstin.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We are delighted that you loved the cottage and its location. Thank you for the recommendations of the local eateries. We hope we can welcome you back again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

We were somewhat surprised not to find the usual ‘welcome pack’ when we entered the property, but within half an hour there was a knock at the door & a lovely lady dropped off a bag of goodies! The owner Kirsten even dropped by to check everything was ok. Comfy & cosy as always. Can’t wait to return.

Dear Keith, it was lovely to finally meet you (and your lovely dog!). I am glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon! Warm wishes, Kirstin Property Owner

It is a beautifully appointed property, one which felt more like a family home than a holiday cottage - and its position could not have been better for exploring the Cotwolds, which we did both by foot and car. The staff at Manor Cottage texted to check in with us, which was very friendly and helpful. We we most definely return, many thanks for a wonderful start to the Christmas holidays!

The cottage is so thoughtfully curated with everything we needed. The weather was chilly while we were there, so we enjoyed lots of fires in the beautiful log burner. The location was great, but the cottage also has tons of maps and books for rambles if you wanted to travel further. A special thanks for leaving the flyer about the Christmas market at Oddington Village Hall! That was the perfect start to our stay!

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at The Forge. It sounds like you had a wonder time at the cottage and enjoyed many a walk from your door. .As the cottage is set back it needs to have its name showing. We contacted the agents, they promised to get back to us to give us more detailed instructions,as to how to find the cottage. They never did. After an hour a wonderful gentleman contacted his wife, who,it transpires has prepared The Forge for visitors,in the past. She drove out to us ,closed the gates, showed us the sign, and in we went. Not a propitious beginning, after a long journey.Better signage and more detailed directions are necessary. Once we were settled in everything was as promised and our stay was wonderful. We would all recommend The Forge to anybody. Beautifully appointed, comfortable, peaceful, indeed an ideal holiday cottage.

The weather was excellent all week, which made the stay better. Walked into Stow one day (45min across the fields) and to Daylesford Organic, about the same in the opposite direction. Very good pub 5mins walk from the house, nice food, friendly people. Village is away from the main road, so it's very quiet. Spent a lot of time in the garden, which is a major feature of the house. It has a large table and chair set and a small barbecue (which we used to cook kebabs bought from the excellent butcher in Stow). Some photos of the garden, the seating and also the main bedroom are missing in the description. These are all very good features and should be included.

There is a very cosy feel as soon as you walk in, and the log burner with a plentiful log supply was a real bonus as the weather was poor all week. We did not meet the owner but she kept in contact with us offering to help if needed. There is a path nearby which leads to a field for walking your dog and the village itself has two good pubs, one just a couple of 100 yds from the cottage and the staff there were extremely friendly and welcoming.

The only suggestion I could make is, literally everything is provided including logs for the fire, coffee pods, washing up liquid, cling film etc, which isn’t obvious from the listing or the welcome email. I got an email advising to take these things including oven gloves and tea towels. I appreciate this must be a generic email for all cottages, but it would have saved having to pack so many things!! Not a big deal, just a suggestion

  • "Having whittled down my Cotswold cottage shortlist to six Forge Cottage stood out."

They all looked great but Forge Cottage was £200-£300 more than the others. I went with the theory that Forge Cottage must be really special, but was it? The cottage is located in a gorgeous village with a great pub just ‘round the corner’ so that was a great start. The cottage itself is really lovely. I think it would be ideal for a family of 4 but too snug for 4 adults. The kitchen is very well equipped, perhaps a few steak knives wouldn’t go amiss but everything else was there. If you like a glass of Champagne on an evening you’ll be delighted with the Champagne flutes. If however you prefer a G&T I suggest you take your favourite glasses as the glassware provided is on the small side. The lounge area has a three seater sofa and easy chair. If you plan on watching much TV you’ll be disappointed by the small television sized to fit against a column between two windows giving views onto the small yet delightful garden. The best room in the cottage is the downstairs shower room which would grace a much larger property. This contrasts to the two small rooms upstairs which can only take a standard double and squeeze in two single beds. When I’m paying £200-£300 more than comparable cottages my expectations go up a notch or two and as much as I enjoyed my stay in Forge Cottage I dont think it offers value for money. What lets it down is a lack of TLC and an eye for detail. The check in/out times allows 7 hours to get this small cottage ready for the next guests but its clear that all of this time isnt being used. If you go looking for spare sockets in the lounge you’ll no doubt look behind the sofa, something the cleaner doesnt do as there amongst the dust, fluff and spiders webs you’ll find an extension lead. As much as I liked the shower room I found that inside and out the shower was grubby with mould. Rubbing my finger along the grout whilst showering made things better so shouldn't be beyond the efforts of a half decent cleaner. If you are concerned about Covid there is nothing on arrival that will give assurance that all surfaces, kitchenware, books, DVDs and games etc have been sanitised. However you can take comfort knowing that for your Covid safety the BBQ has been removed. You’ll find this detail in the information pack although much, including refuse collection schedules, are out of date. The owners have recognised that a rug on a laminate floor can create a hazard and have used double sided tape to stick the edges down. However lack of care has resulted in two of the rug corners rolling up meaning the hazard has been poorly mitigated; as I found out when stubbing my toe and causing bruising and discomfort for a couple of days. Any worse and I’d have made a claim against the owners liability insurance. I did worry about crashing through the floor in the main bedroom as the floor feels ready to give way. Thankfully the most course and uncomfortable carpet imaginable gives structural support. The word count of my review shows bias to the negatives yet I still found this to be a delightful cottage and I would definitely book again, although only if the tariff is reduced to reflect a more realistic value for money range.

Thank you for your comprehensive feedback. All your comments have been noted and are being addressed. Since your stay, the cottage has received a deep clean. We are glad that you enjoyed the property's location and its local pub.. We are pleased that you are thinking of returning and look forward to welcoming you again. • "Thanks so much for letting us stay in the Forge - we had a wonderful time revisiting and exploring the local area."

Our daughter Isabel loved collecting conkers, blackberries and acorns on our walks. The cottage was so well equipped: much, much better than any other holiday rental I think we've ever stayed in (the only thing we missed was a tin opener: maybe it went walkabouts?). We made use of your recommendations of the local pubs and had great meals at The Kings Arms, Bleddington, the Fox in Lower Oddington and, of course, the Horse and Groom. (our only disappointment was the Fox in Broadwell: nice atmosphere but the food was very average). We finally made use of the stove on our last night as the evening chill came in: made the house feel very cosy. Thanks again - it was a great holiday.
