  • "Having stayed at another Sykes premises at Appletree House which was amazing as per my review I guess trying to live up to this was always going to be a challenge for Byfield Lodge."

However , Byfield Lodge is in an amazing location , very quiet , peaceful & beautiful surroundings. On arrival we were a little disappointed as the king size bed in one of the bedrooms had been swopped for 2 x singles , i understand why in terms of headroom/access but would have been nice to have been informed of these changes. Overall the premises were clean although a bit more attention is required , the oven glove was pretty disgusting , the large utensils in the draw had food on them and the Microwave needed cleaning out before we could use. I believe that with a bit more TLC this place could be amazing

Hello Stephen We are glad you liked the the location of the lodge. I'm sorry about the beds. The photos should be changed soon on the Sykes website but it does seem to take a long time to happen. We have had positive reviews as there is a lot more headroom. I apologise if the microwave wasn't as clean as it should be and we have re arranged the utensils so they are a lot tidier. (We have also thrown away the oven glove). We will carry on attempting to make the Lodge as amazing as we can. Mary Property Owner

  • "We had a very enjoyable stay at Byefield Lodge."

The cottage was clean and comfortable. It was well equipped with a good sized outside space (our dogs particularly enjoyed the pond!). The cottage is very well situated to explore the surrounding area, and there are many footpaths nearby for those wishing to venture out on foot. We would definitely recommend Byefield Lodge and hope to book again.

  • "Had a good stay."

Quiet and nice surroundings. Could of been cleaner however its a dog friendly place and plainly dogs have been on the sofas. Table and work surfaces went clean. Kitchen was pretty well equipped but showing its age compared to some. Shower is downstairs which is a wet-room/curtain affair with an electric shower. Lounge was fine. Smart TV is old so bring a Chromecast or similar as Netflix barely works, nothing else. Wifi/Broadband is OK. Beds are fine. Niggles are headroom upstairs is awful. You can stand down the apex but anywhere else its a crouch or worse. Stairs creak so no creeping around. The new gate isn't well sited or installed. If it were 1-2 ft wider or inset slightly it would make access easier. The hedge opposite had been cut back but its still a few shunts in a larger vehicle. However if you have dogs and are looking for a good base in Malvern it will work for you.

We are pleased you had a good stay with us and have taken note of your comments so we can improve our guests visit. We would like to add that we have now replaced the old smart tv. Thank you for pointing this out to us. we have also changed the layout of the bedroom (even though the photo on Sykes has not yet been altered) which gives a lot more room for walking around. Lots of space for two. Comfortable and clean. The welcome pack was very appreciated. The location is good for places around the area. Waitrose is nice for bigger shop. The garden was fantastic but could do with feeling less like a part of someone else’s garden and seemed a little unfriendly.

Thank you for your response. We are glad you have had a lovely week and were pleased with the cottage. Property Owner

  • "A wonderful base for exploring the Malverns and surrounding area."

A clean, peaceful and comfortable property with the most amazing garden and wildlife. Everything we needed for our holiday was provided by the owners. The kitchen was well-equipped and the property was beautifully decorated and fitted out. The bedroom ceilings are extremely low, but you are made fully aware of this when you make your booking and soon get used to them when you are staying at the lodge. Our teenage sons fully appreciated the fast WIFI connection. A wonderful holiday in a beautiful setting. We would highly recommend Byefield Lodge.

  • "Lovely quiet location and wonderfully kept grounds."

Only possible improvements we would suggest are individually small but together make the difference between a good and Great stay. Not being close to a town and having such lovely countryside nearby plus BBQ facilities meant we cooked a lot - kitchen is quite poorly stocked with very basic glasswear, no cleaning brushes just cloths, no dishwasher (despite room for one in utility) and no sink drainer either and limited T towels. There wasn't even a wooden spoon! Another real problem was Wifi which was appalling and regularly less than 2mb speeds which meant you struggled to even load BBC iplayer or Netflix let alone watch anything. With no local mobile signal email was our only comms method and this often couldn't be sent due to wifi dropping out. Bottle of prosecco was a nice touch on arrival but would have preferred Salt n Pepper mills plus some more cooking utensils instead. Even with covid basic cooking staples such as Olive oil bottle and seasoning can easily be wiped clean before each visitor - didn't like having to buy the real basics just to make easy cooking possible. If these small things were solved it would have been great though.

Thank you for your feedback, I understand you were reasonably upset by the lack of olive oil and slow broadband. The broadband is super-fast at over 100mb and the password was in the welcome book but we believe you may have been trying to access broadband via an old router that was still present so we do apologise and have since removed the old router to avoid any confusion in the future That being said, I wish you had informed us of this on arrival, or even during your stay. We would have loved the opportunity to make things right. We welcome your feedback and have taken all your comments on board. Property Owner

  • "The owners of the property were lovely."

The property was very nice. My only moan is that the bedrooms all though the bed was very comfortable the head room was not. You had to be so careful when getting out of bed especially in the night because your up in the eaves of the building. The grounds and the surrounding area is stunning. Overall a very nice holiday.

  • "We had an amazing stay at Byefield, walking distance to the New Inn, lots of footpaths to explore at the bottom of the road, a great base to explore the Hills, Malvern, Ledbury and Marina at Upton."

The facilities where in great condition, clean and recently modernised. WiFi and usb points where a great hand with the kids. Family games to play if you have time. Awesome coal BBQ to the ready, beaut of a garden to relax in. Handy hose pipe to spray hot kids and dirty pup down. We met the owners who where very friendly and helpful too. Would 100% recommend. We plan to back next year. Thank you for having us Byefield lodge!

  • "Clients need to take note of the details, namely the lack of height in the bedrooms."

Although you can stand in the centre of the room, beneath the apex, if someone is broad shouldered or tall, it is very restricting. To get in bed and to access the bedside cabinets, you have to crouch along the room. This is manageable for a short stay. Even though you are aware of this from the details, it is not until you stay in the lodge that you fully understand the lack of height. Having said this, we would return here for another short stay. The entrance gateway is a tight access from the lane, but is achievable. However, if you had a long vehicle, you may struggle to turn in from the lane. The gardens are beautiful. The lodge is well equipped. The cleaning equipment supplied is more than adequate. We would happily recommend Byefield Lodge, with the above information noted.

  • "The reasons for not giving top rating for everything: I did feel that the oven and trays had not had a good clean."

The lodge was extremely comfortable but the sloping bedroom ceiling did cause a few bumps and bruises. A few more additions in the kitchen utensil draw would have been v welcome - perhaps some kitchen scissors, a wooden spoon and an ice making tray would have helped. We loved the garden. There were plenty of sockets for various devices and the TV was amazing. Would have liked a hairdryer! None of the above spoilt our holiday - we loved the property and had a great time.

  • "A very tranquil garden enabling one to chill out and relax (with or without a good book)."

The house was very comfortable with a suitably kitted out kitchen. It was beautifully heated for the winter weather. Doug made himself available by phone to resolve silly queries that we had. There was only one small negative being that the main bedroom is a loft extension requiring one to bend and duck to avoid the low angled ceiling.
