The accommodation was very comfortable for the 2 of us and our dog, and well equipped. The welcome pack was much appreciated. It’s in a nice secluded spot with plenty of privacy from neighbouring properties, down a peaceful lane. There is a good network of cross country footpaths for walks straight from the door, but it was also well situated for walking on Malvern Hills just a 10 minute drive away.

Thank you for your kind review. We are pleased you enjoyed The Lodge and had some good walks with the dog. You certainly didn't get the best weather but glad you were able to make the most of your stay. Property Owner

Lovely property in a picture perfect setting (particularly the Monet style view of the bridge over the large pond). Absolutely everything we could possibly need was provided. It was very well equipped throughout. Teenage daughter bagged the ensuite bedroom so we did have to pop downstairs for the bathroom in the night, but torches are provided and there are little movement activated lights near the stair. Lots of nice places to eat or take out locally (short car drive) and a little village shop in walking distance which is well stocked with snacks and drinks. Really enjoyed our stay. We very much enjoyed the peace and quiet. Such a lovely place with lots of wild life. The owners Mary and William are such nice hosts and we appreciated our welcome pack. I question the Friday to Friday bookings as it's by far the worst day for traffic. Sunday to Sunday would be so much better and would save hours being stuck in queues.

Thanks for the lovely review. We were pleased to see you again and look forward to seeing you in the future. Sunday to Sunday sounds good for travelling but unfortunately we would have problems with regular Sunday bookings to get emergency maintenance that sometimes has to be done and arranging for help with cleaning. I agree that our roads seem so congested nowadays. Best Wishes Mary and William Property Owner

The accomodation was very well equipped, and extremely comfortable, although the bedroom ceilings take some getting used to! The only cloud was that the bbq mentioned in the listings when we booked, and shown in the pictures isn't there any more, and when we read the visitors book, it was clear that the welcome pack used to include cake and wine, but no longer does!

So glad you had a lovely week and thought the accommodation was comfortable and well equipped. We do vary our welcome pack so sorry a cake wasn't in yours. We have stopped providing wine as we had a guest who explained to us that they did not want alcohol in the house and when thinking about this there are a number of reasons why this might be. We hope you did enjoy the welcome pack that we left. Best Wishes Mary and William Property Owner

  • "The location is lovely, and secluded."

However unfortunately the owners had decided to drain the lovely big pond next to the lodge (One of the reasons we chose it) leaving it empty and muddy. They then brought a large digger in to remove the mud on the second day of our stay. They had left us a note and £50 compensation on our arrival informing us of the disruption. Which softened the blow a little. Then as we were about to pack and leave on at 8.40am on Friday they decided to try and hurry us up by using a petrol hedge trimmer right next to the lodge and by our car that we were loading to leave. As we got in the car the man stopped the trimmer and walked away. I had just had a lovely chat with the owner next door prior to this so have no idea why they felt the need to do this. Not a great experience for what is overall a lovely property. If you are going to be in this business then customers come first surely, consideration and communication.

Thank you for your comments, I can confirm we did not drain the pond/lake. It drained itself because of the drought as it is fed naturally from the hills. As mentioned, it had only dried out twice in 33 years that we have lived here. Other local ponds have had the same problem in our area. Hopefully as soon as it rains it will very quickly get back to normal. There was a small trickle left at one end and my husband placed a small pump to stop the rainfall (as we had a thunderstorm on the Monday before you arrived on Tuesday) from collecting. We wanted to remove some of the mud that had collected over the years and had become a flood hazard. We left the note offering you £50 to have a meal on us as we wanted a digger in on Thursday to remove this mud and there would be some noise. We tried to minimize the disruption by keeping the digger on our side of the garden and not affect the Lodge garden. We always put our guests first and would not do anything to ruin their time with us. I have ascertained our Gardener did start trimming around 9 and he should not have done until you left. We apologise for this. Property Owner

However , Byfield Lodge is in an amazing location , very quiet , peaceful & beautiful surroundings. On arrival we were a little disappointed as the king size bed in one of the bedrooms had been swopped for 2 x singles , i understand why in terms of headroom/access but would have been nice to have been informed of these changes. Overall the premises were clean although a bit more attention is required , the oven glove was pretty disgusting , the large utensils in the draw had food on them and the Microwave needed cleaning out before we could use. I believe that with a bit more TLC this place could be amazing

Hello Stephen We are glad you liked the the location of the lodge. I'm sorry about the beds. The photos should be changed soon on the Sykes website but it does seem to take a long time to happen. Quiet and nice surroundings. Could of been cleaner however its a dog friendly place and plainly dogs have been on the sofas. Table and work surfaces went clean. Kitchen was pretty well equipped but showing its age compared to some. Shower is downstairs which is a wet-room/curtain affair with an electric shower. Lounge was fine. Smart TV is old so bring a Chromecast or similar as Netflix barely works, nothing else. Wifi/Broadband is OK. Beds are fine. Niggles are headroom upstairs is awful. You can stand down the apex but anywhere else its a crouch or worse. Stairs creak so no creeping around. The new gate isn't well sited or installed. If it were 1-2 ft wider or inset slightly it would make access easier. The hedge opposite had been cut back but its still a few shunts in a larger vehicle. However if you have dogs and are looking for a good base in Malvern it will work for you.

We are pleased you had a good stay with us and have taken note of your comments so we can improve our guests visit. We would like to add that we have now replaced the old smart tv. Thank you for pointing this out to us. we have also changed the layout of the bedroom (even though the photo on Sykes has not yet been altered) which gives a lot more room for walking around. • "Lovely quiet location and wonderfully kept grounds."

Only possible improvements we would suggest are individually small but together make the difference between a good and Great stay. Not being close to a town and having such lovely countryside nearby plus BBQ facilities meant we cooked a lot - kitchen is quite poorly stocked with very basic glasswear, no cleaning brushes just cloths, no dishwasher (despite room for one in utility) and no sink drainer either and limited T towels. There wasn't even a wooden spoon! Another real problem was Wifi which was appalling and regularly less than 2mb speeds which meant you struggled to even load BBC iplayer or Netflix let alone watch anything. With no local mobile signal email was our only comms method and this often couldn't be sent due to wifi dropping out. Bottle of prosecco was a nice touch on arrival but would have preferred Salt n Pepper mills plus some more cooking utensils instead. Even with covid basic cooking staples such as Olive oil bottle and seasoning can easily be wiped clean before each visitor - didn't like having to buy the real basics just to make easy cooking possible. If these small things were solved it would have been great though.

Thank you for your feedback, I understand you were reasonably upset by the lack of olive oil and slow broadband. The broadband is super-fast at over 100mb and the password was in the welcome book but we believe you may have been trying to access broadband via an old router that was still present so we do apologise and have since removed the old router to avoid any confusion in the future That being said, I wish you had informed us of this on arrival, or even during your stay. We would have loved the opportunity to make things right. We welcome your feedback and have taken all your comments on board. Property Owner

  • "Clients need to take note of the details, namely the lack of height in the bedrooms."

Although you can stand in the centre of the room, beneath the apex, if someone is broad shouldered or tall, it is very restricting. To get in bed and to access the bedside cabinets, you have to crouch along the room. This is manageable for a short stay. Even though you are aware of this from the details, it is not until you stay in the lodge that you fully understand the lack of height. Having said this, we would return here for another short stay. The entrance gateway is a tight access from the lane, but is achievable. However, if you had a long vehicle, you may struggle to turn in from the lane. The gardens are beautiful. The lodge is well equipped. The cleaning equipment supplied is more than adequate. We would happily recommend Byefield Lodge, with the above information noted.

  • "The reasons for not giving top rating for everything: I did feel that the oven and trays had not had a good clean."

The lodge was extremely comfortable but the sloping bedroom ceiling did cause a few bumps and bruises. A few more additions in the kitchen utensil draw would have been v welcome - perhaps some kitchen scissors, a wooden spoon and an ice making tray would have helped. We loved the garden. There were plenty of sockets for various devices and the TV was amazing. Would have liked a hairdryer! None of the above spoilt our holiday - we loved the property and had a great time.

Malvern 5 miles; Worcester 13.5 miles; Gloucester 17 miles

The thriving village of Welland lies south east of the magnificent Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, with a Post Office, village shop and its very own family-run vineyard, producing award-winning wines which can be purchased directly from the owners. Castlemorton Common provides many lovely walk and cycle rides, part of which is a designated SSSI due to its vast array of wildlife, flora and fauna. The beautiful Worcestershire town of Malvern dates back to the Bronze Age and is situated on the eastern side of the dramatic Malvern Hills. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the hills form a nine mile range of ancient rock, which offers 100 miles of footpaths and bridleways with natural springs and long distance views in all directions. The town holds antiques fairs, WI country markets, farmers’ markets and many auctions throughout the year, as well as the Great Malvern Food Festival in June. The Malvern Theatre welcomes productions from the West End and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Fishing and river cruises are available nearby and there are National Trust properties and gardens to visit in the area. Malvern has many individual shops, cafes, art galleries and restaurants, a luxurious spa, and is also home to the Three Counties Showground. Malvern is the home of the Morgan car, which makes this area popular with enthusiasts. The pretty town of Upton upon Severn lies on the banks of the River Severn and boasts a variety of delightful 17th century buildings and attractive shops, including The Pudding Shop, traditional inns and cafes and its very own museum. It also plays host to many annual festivals, including Jazz, Folk and Blues Festivals, as well as the Sunshine Music Festival. This small, thriving town has its own marina, a vineyard and a well-stocked farm shop at the local fruit farm, plus the town’s medieval church, which is now a Heritage Centre, is topped by a striking 18th century cupola, known locally as The Pepperpot. The picturesque Forest of Dean, with its range of attractions, is only 30 miles away, and the cathedral city of Worcester and waterfront city of Gloucester are also close by.
