  • "We had a wonderful stay at the Old Farm Cottage."

The cottage is owned by Jane and Peter who are fantastic hosts and very attentive. The house is extremely cosy and despite terrible weather for the whole weekend we felt completely at home at the property. The two separate living rooms were a fantastic feature, giving us space and privacy in the outdoor annex. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the utensils you could possibly hope for. We only stayed for a weekend but would’ve loved to stay longer (and with better weather to have enjoyed the garden)! Would recommend for anyone who would like a cosy Cotswolds stay. Thank you Jane and Peter for an amazing stay.

The interior is as described in the photos, small but cosy rooms upstairs and huge garden and parking area for when the weather is nice. Kitchen is well equipped. We loved our bank holiday family stay and the kids were running free in the meadows surrounding the house.

The property

Resting in the peaceful hamlet of Ablington, sits this stunning Cotswold stone dwelling, Old Farm Cottage.

This stylish, well-presented cottage is perfect for a relaxing base for exploring the picturesque Cotswolds.

Accessed via country track, you can park your cars at the rear of the property and unload your luggage through the double doors, into the open-plan kitchen/diner that is a bright, open space, perfect for entertaining your guests, where you can rustle up heart-warming meals using the contemporary appliances as your guests lay the glass, extendable dining table, ready to delve into the feast and uncork a bottle of wine!

Retreat into the homely sitting room, where you can dive into the pages of a compelling novel from the selection on offer, whilst a film plays for your guests in the background, as you’re all kept warm by the lovely woodburning stove.

Continently located on the ground-floor is a shower room that has been refurbished to a high standard that contains a walk-in shower, basin and WC.

When the night draws to a close, a choice of three stylish bedrooms rest on the first-floor; a beautiful king-size overlooking the garden, a lovely double also overlooking the garden and a smart twin room, perfect for children, where there is also a safety gate installed.

In the morning, enjoy a long soak in the bath that is set on a raised plinth, before making your way to the kitchen to make you and your guests a delicious breakfast, to be enjoyed alfresco style on the decked area in the garden, which sits outside the wonderful summer house that has a bright and airy sitting room with a large corner sofa and a wall-mounted TV, with a Sky Sports and Movie package, and a DVD player, as well as a utility room that contains a washing machine, a cold-water sink, and an additional fridge freezer for use in the summer months.

Benches are dotted around the gardens of the cottage, making them wonderful places to soak up the peaceful atmosphere and take advantage of sunshine throughout the entire day.

Get you walking boots on and head into the surrounding countryside which is a haven for nature lovers, with lots of wildlife, walking routes, and the tranquil River Coln which runs right through the hamlet.

Enjoy a wonderful lunch at the well-regarded family run venue, The Catherine Wheel, which is just 0.9 miles from Old Farm Cottage’s doorstep.

Ablington is just a mile away from the popular Cotswold village of Bibury, once described as ‘the most beautiful village in England’, where you will find the Trout Farm where you can ‘catch your own' from April to October, Thursday to Sunday and also spend some time walking around and feeding the trout, as well as enjoy the wonderful barbecues.

Nearby Cirencester is the largest town of the Cotswolds and is known as the 'capital of the Cotswolds', supporting a wide range of amenities such as Wheatsheaf Inn and The Bear Inn and you can take a stroll around Cirencester Park which forms the Bathurst Estate and is a picturesque country park with plenty to discover and do.

For a fun day out, head to Bourton-on-the-Water, where you can discover The Model Village which is a Grade ll listed, one-ninth scale model of the village itself, which is a fun visit for all the family or in warmer months.

Bourton-on-the-Water is affectionately known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’, due to its low-rise bridges that swoosh over the River Windrush, where you can dip your toes in the river, and finish off with a lovely meal at one of the many pubs and inns that sit without Bourton-on-the-Water.

The nearby regency town of Cheltenham offers a wide range of attractions, one being the well-known Cheltenham Festival, one of the top horse racing events in the UK.

For a wonderful base surrounded by countryside, stay at Old Farm Cottage.
