  • "Delightful period cottage, sensitively adapted for modern use."

Beautiful village, and country, especially in autumn. Ideal for Bodenham Nature Reserve and Queen's Wood Forest park. Wheelwright's is a welcoming and busy village pub, with good, standard food.

  • "Lovely quirky cottage which was homely and welcoming."

Nice that a few things like milk and some tea bags were provided to start with. Very comfortable beds. Great view of the church from the cottage. The parking arrangement proved a slight challenge for 2 cars, when we needed to swap them around depending on who was driving. But it wasn’t too difficult and added to the quirky feeling of the place. It would have been great to have a full length mirror in one or both of the double bedrooms but that’s the only thing we’d change. We had a great stay and would especially recommend The Falcon hotel in Bromyard to eat at. Open from Tues for food and providing huge portions at very low prices. Great choice of dishes too and all homemade. Tues night is Folk music night too, not sure if that’s every week.

Vicky makes sure that there are the extras to just add the final touches to the holiday. The Wheelwright arms just down the road is walking distance and good for a pint. Plenty of walking in the local area, even walked into Bromyard and back.....thank goodness for a relaxing bath to ease the aching legs. We will no doubt return in the future, thank you.

Cottage is very clean and comfortable with well equipped kitchen. Village has a pub ( both ale and food good) church and a once a week bus to Hereford, great for exploring the area and taking in the views. Miles of waks available through stunning scenery plus lots to explore within a 20 min drive ( NT Brokhampton, EH Witley Court , Ledbury , Bromyard etc) fab. Would totally recomend it.

  • "We had a lovely week at Causeway cottage, good weather helped a lot."

It’s so well located for many beautiful places to visit with no need to go too far. The good outweighs the bad about the cottage. It’s very homely and comfortable, just big enough for four adults, we stayed with our son and daughter in law. The king sized beds are comfortable, with good quality bed linen and towels, lots of nice cushions and pillows. The kitchen is well equipped. There were sachets of coffee and tea bags, little pods of milk, plus salt and pepper, but bring everything you need with you as it’s not that easy to pop to the shop for your first night. What let the cottage down for us was the shower. It’s electric, over the bath and has a very poor water flow, not suitable for the ladies to wash their hair. The bathroom is downstairs and the toilet upstairs is handy, small, but serves its purpose, watch out if you are tall! Disappointing that we were not allowed to use the log burner. The outside could be so much better. The garden is in the most idyllic setting, but has been terribly neglected. It would be wonderful to relax out there, hearing the birds sing and enjoying the peace. But the wooden chairs are very uncomfortable, a bench further down not fit to sit on and the whole outside is littered with warning notices of broken flags, unsafe fences, etc etc. it all needs a lot of TLC and that’s an awful shame. But, we were out and about a lot and still had a lovely time, Vicky keeps the place lovely and clean and is so helpful. As I said, the good outweighs the bad and we loved the area and the village so much, we would love to come again

Not so with Causeway Cottage as the bed (s) were the most comfortable I have ever experienced in a holiday cottage. CC was immaculately clean on our arrival, very well equipped with nothing lacking and very comfortable all round. The garden is steep but wonderful, bird song abounds all through the day, very little traffic or other noise in Pencombe and excellent wals form the doorstep in every direction and of every lenght. Would highly recommend if you wish to have a peaceful, comfortable stay in a small village away from the trappings of modern day life

All cottages are "clean, quiet, well equipped" etc but in this case it is really true. Everything was spotless, the equipment was all very good quality, the knives were really sharp (a good indicator!). The cottage is more like a "home" than a "place to stay", the photos give a good indication of what is there. Thank you Vicki, for making our stay very pleasant. The surrounding area has many places of interest: Stockton Bury Gardens http://www.stocktonbury.co.uk/ under-sold on the website. Ralph Court gardens https://www.ralphcourtgardens.co.uk/ Small, bizarre, and great fun especially for kids. Hampton Court Castle https://www.hamptoncourtcastle.co.uk/ 100 years older than Hampton Court Palace in Surrey. Gorgeous grounds. Westonbury Mill Water Gardens http://westonburymillwatergardens.com/ another small, quirky but gorgeous garden. Plus a good sekection of English Heritage and National Trust venues and the Black and White trail of villages of gorgeous half timbered buildings https://www.blackandwhitetrail.org/ I do wish that Sykes would give a what3words location for each property - so much easier than the verbal "turn right ant the signpost" type of directions. • "A fabulous cottage that felt cosy, but was also spacious."

It was spotlessly clean and had all of the home comforts that it advertised. In addition to the downstairs bathroom there was also an additional toilet and wash hand basin upstairs. The garden was lovely and I'm sure is a great added bonus when the weather is warm. The village is small and charming and we enjoyed a great Sunday roast at the local pub, which only takes 10 minutes to walk to. We had a little trouble with the heating system, but Vicki, who lives locally and looks after the property, was with us within 15 minutes of our phone call to help us. We are planning to return again next year after a covid vaccine has been found. If travelling via the M5, from the north or south, take the exit at Worcester (A44) to Bromyard and then follow the signs to Pencombe. We were travelling from Dorset and unfortunately followed the sat nav. We left the M5 at the Gloucester junction and the last 5 miles of our journey found us on really tiny country lanes. Very scary when meeting homeward-bound tractors!

The standards of cleanliness were exceptional and (during this very worrying time) we felt totally confident that everything possible had been done. The owners and Vicki (the lady who oversees the cottage) should be commended for making this a lovely place to stay. Only downside was phone rang several times . Early in the morning which woke us up when we answered it was the cottage manger telling us to put the bins out . But it stated in the manual that she would put the bins out very disappointed to be disturbed in this way

We are sorry for this inconvenience. Our cottage manager has been asked to ensure this not happen again. Also, while we do leave a phone at the cottage to ensure anyone staying there can make free local calls and be reached (as cell phone coverage can be inconsistent), we do remind visitors that they are free to simply unplug the phone, to avoid any kind of incoming call, if they prefer. • "The property itself was accurately described and pleasant."

However the pedestrian access from the car parking area to the cottage itself is via a short but very steep path. This is not noted in the property description or shown on photographs. The first time that we were made aware of this, was in the key collection e-mail around 6 weeks before the holiday and after it had been paid for in full. Although this may not be a problem for many, my wife suffers with achilles problems and has difficulties with gradients. If the property description had highlighted this, we would have selected an alternative. I resorted to giving my wife an undignified 'piggy-back' up the slope each time we left the property.

  • "We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Causeway cottage in Pencombe."

If we had any reservations it would be that for five people the space was a little tight, and the bedrooms apart from the main room upstairs was also a little confining space wise. There was in reality little storage space for cloths and cases up stairs. Although there were two toilets, one up, one down, there was only again the one shower and bath room down stairs, and for five people we all had to take it in turns to use the shower room. As we were there for four nights we could cope adequately, but a longer stay of over seven days would have been a problem for the five of us, all adults. We loved the lounge and diningroom seating area, and the kitchen and utility area. The cottage was well heated when we arrived , and the lights already put on for us as it was dark . The property was very inviting , and we enjoyed our stay there very much, and enjoyed the surrounding area and walks around the village and over the fields. It is an area that we would like to stay again in. Overall very satisfied with our choice of cottage.
