Home from home. It had absolutely everything we needed. Plenty of room for the six of us, spotlessly clean and comfortable. We needed for nothing! Quiet and peaceful location. Definitely worth a visit and we will be back. We loved it. Thank you so much Alistair and Debi, you've done a fantastic job :) Ray and Jenni

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stables Cottage."

It is attractively decorated, comfortable and equipped with everything we could possibly need. The underfloor heating keeps it nice and warm downstairs and it was particularly useful to have a utility room kitted out with towels for muddy paws. Dogs are not allowed upstairs but it is easy to ensure as there is a door to the stairs, which we kept closed at all times. Alistair is friendly and helpful and was always on hand to answer any questions we had. It was a lovely touch to have fresh flowers, a (very tasty) cake and a jug of milk provided to welcome us.

Lovely spacious cottage with a large kitchen and lounge. The bedrooms upstairs are very spacious and all the beds very comfortable. We loved watching the horses in the yard and being able to see them in the fields from the view in the lounge and garden. If you have a dog you can walk round the fields near the horses as well. Absolutely delicious cakes on our arrival and we were met by Alistair who was very welcoming. Both him and Debbie are friendly and helpful but also leave you to enjoy your holiday.

Our hosts were very kind and showed us around the outside and explained the layout of the dog walking facilities. The cottage itself was presented spotlessly clean and with a very up to date and extremely tasteful kitchen with all mod cons. There was plenty of room and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. The whole experience was peaceful and very comfortable. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we were allowed to look around the livery yard and met Eli the friendly donkey. You can book horse rides if you wish. Tea, milk and a selection of small cakes were left for us to enjoy on arrival. The cottage was clean and tidy and had everything needed for a week stay. The TV is connected to an internet device which allows viewing of BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub and catch up etc. Very handy as the ITV signal was subject to pixelation. The shower was really good and the bedrooms, clean, light, large and airy and the beds comfortable. Lovely views across the countryside and the fields containing the livery horses. The location is down a good road about a mile from the A47 so access around the area is easy. The road leads to Hallaton and Medbourne, the latter has a small and friendly village shop and post office. We had a lovely week and would recommend Stables Cottage for a restful stay and a good location for exploring the local area. During our stay we visited the Nene Valley Railway, Sacrewell Farm Park, Barnesdale Gardens, Oakham, Harringworth Viaduct, Uppingham, Woolsthorpe Manor (NT) and Lyveden (NT). All were in easy reach. Uppingham is a picturesque traditional Rutland market town with honey-coloured stone buildings offering a range of speciality shops, traditional family retailers, antique galleries, art galleries and tea rooms as well as country pubs, a weekly Friday market and an award-winning Heritage Trail which highlights the many historic features of the town. In the centre is the Market Square with the original fountain, where a temporary livestock market has been held every year since 1889. Uppingham and the surrounding area are steeped in history and offer something to suit all tastes and interests. Many sporting events are available at Rutland Water including walking, fly fishing, birdwatching, cycling and horse riding as well as golf, rock climbing, a high rope course and numerous watersports. Just a short drive takes you to Burghley House, one of the grandest houses of the Elizabethan Age, home to Burghley Horse Trails and offering Capability Brown-designed gardens. This stunning house was used in the filming of Pride and Prejudice and The Da Vinci Code. Rockingham Castle, built on behalf of William the Conqueror, is open to the public throughout the summer, and plays host to events throughout the year including International Horse Trials, music festivals and family events. The town of Stamford, known as the finest stone town in England, and Oakham with its castle with horseshoes, heritage trail, and bi-weekly markets and monthly farmers’ market, are both worth a visit. Rockingham Speedway offers numerous track events throughout the year, or why not try out one of their many track days? The area boasts many award-winning pubs and restaurants with local produce such as cheese, bread, meats and fish, all of which can be bought at one of the many markets in the Rutland area. Visit the city of Leicester, nestling on the River Soar on the edge of the National Forest and the burial place of King Richard III, or the 'Rural Capital of Food' Melton Mowbray, home to the famous Pork Pie and Stilton cheese. Uppingham was voted best place to live in the Midlands by The Sunday Times in 2020 due to the traditional high street with specialist shops and overwhelmingly friendly locals.
