  • "Absolutely beautiful cottage in wonderful surroundings."

Bonus of roaring fire. We were a party of 4 adults and 4 children and found it very comfortable. Could do with upgrading the shower but that's the only niggle we had! We left some Christmas puddings as a thank you

  • "Bridge Hill cottage was a perfect venue for our family reunion and the proximity of The Sun Inn provided family with a perfect location to stay."

(we booked a totally of thirteen nights accommodation there). Having to cook Christmas lunch and family meals for as many as thirteen I found the kitchen very well equipped. The three rooms provided ample space for family of all ages to chill and enjoy the Bar Billiards. The decor was authentic and yet quirky which enabled us to relax and enjoy the festive spirit. Bathrooms are very clean and functional. Only comment: it was only when I left that I discovered the recycle bins, maybe a note in the information pack. Please pass on my thanks to the owners for a memorable fantastic stay in their eclectic home x x.

  • "Dear Andrew, We loved staying at the cottage!"

It has a lot of character and is a great size for a small family get-together - big enough to accommodate and small enough to feel 'cottagey'. The room with the minstrels' gallery is most unusual and there are several other touches, like the brass-rubbings, which make the house different and interesting. It's very well appointed and had everything we needed for our stay and Hook Norton is a great centre for exploring and walking. The only drawback is the smell of the oil tank that permeates the back patio area - since we had very little sitting-out weather this didn't bother us very much but it detracts from the nice garden. In all, we really enjoyed our stay in the cottage and would love to stay there again another year.

  • "Hi Andrew, We had a great time thanks, we used it for a family get together for my mums 70th."

The cottage was really nice and suited our needs well. We were a party of 7, 3 couples and a 1 year old. There was plenty of room and we enjoyed chilling out in the games room in the evening. Also the location was good. We and went to the children's farm and water fowl sanctuary and then up to Stratford. Unfortunately we didn't he to the brewery as it wouldn't have suited my daughter. I hope this is useful for you. Cheers.

The property

This wonderful stone-built cottage was once the village sweet shop and dates back to 1790!

Bridge Hill Cottage is nestled in a quiet lane in the heart of Hook Norton, a pretty village on the edge of the idyllic Cotswolds.

It is an idyllic retreat for a family or a gathering of friends who are seeking a countryside retreat.

You are instantly welcomed by the pretty front garden, where stone steps lead you up to the front door which opens into a handy entrance hall where you can store your muddy shoes before entering into the property.

The large open-plan kitchen/diner has everything you need during your self-catering stay to rustle up delicious meals; make use of the electric oven and hob and make cleaning up easier with help from the dishwasher!

You and your guests can retreat around the dining table to tuck into your meals and toast to a wonderful holiday.

Retreat to the heart of the house, the sitting room, where you will find a wealth of beautiful character features including exposed oak beams and an eye-catch Cotswold stone wall, where you can put your feet up on the three-seater sofa or better yet in the loveseat armchair, as the woodburning stove that sits within the large inglenook fireplace keeps you warm on a cold evening.

For your convenience, you will find a cloakroom and utility situated on the ground-floor, containing a basin, WC and handy washing machine and tumble dryer, so you can leave with a case full of clean washing!

You’ll find a little hidden gem up a small staircase, which is the second sitting room/Minstrels’ gallery, which is a splendid room for the whole family to enjoy, complete with a charming old bar-billiards table, welcoming seating space, a piano and a large open fire, with a double sofa-bed available on the gallery floor, overlooking the main area.

As the night draws to a close and the fires go out, make your way up to the first-floor where you have a choice of three homely bedrooms; two doubles and a child’s bunk bed room.

In the morning there will be no queues for the bathroom, as you’ll find two on this floor; the bathroom contains a bath with a hand-held shower, basin and WC and the shower room is Jack-and-Jill style with a walk-in shower, basin, heated towel rail and WC.

Once you’ve had an awakening rinse, make your way out into the garden with your furry friend so they can stretch their legs and you can catch the morning sun rays!

The garden has lovely views of the church tower and offers a space for alfresco dining, with a large outdoor dining area and an impressive Cotswold stone barbecue, as well as a unique serving hatch window from the kitchen/diner.

Head into the heart of Hook Norton and treat your loved ones to a delicious meal prepared with locally sourced produce at The Sun Inn, or tour the facilities and sample the ales with a visit to Hook Norton Brewery.

Visit the historic market town of Banbury, where you can keep entertained with a visit to Banbury Museum & Gallery, test your luck with a game at Banbury Bowl, or treat yourself to a spot of retail therapy at Castle Quay Shopping Centre.

Discover the fascinating collection of RAF memorabilia with a visit to Wellington Aviation in Moreton-in-Marsh, or head to Bourton-on-the-Water where you can explore the sights of the Cotswold-stone village on a miniature scale at The Model Village, or lose yourself amongst the towering hedges at The Dragonfly Maze.

Note: If your arrival will be delayed beyond 8pm on the start date of your rental period, you must contact the person whose details are given in the location details. If you fail to do so, you may not be able to get into the property. Note: The minstrels' gallery is an open mezzanine floor above the second living room and the bed is a fold out sofa bed; we do not recommend this bedroom for young children, due to the absence of spindles between the hand rail and the stairs up to this room. Note: Bridge Hill Cottage is an old property, located on a hill, which has many character features including low beams and two sets of stairs, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility.
