  • "We had a most enjoyable stay in the cottage, which was warm, cosy and well appointed."

It was welcoming, with everything we needed for our stay. The village of Farnborough is very picturesque and we would love to return in Spring/Summer, to explore the village and surrounding area.

  • "We stayed here in between moving house, initially booked for one week but had to extend for two weeks (no other cottages available) Very well equipped cottage."

Just a few things could do with some attention; The sofa and two chairs need replacing, very hard and uncomfortable. Bed could do with a new mattress as could hear and feel the springs every time we turned over. An empty cupboard for food shopping would be a bonus. Some guidance about putting bins out would be good as it is a terraced property so didn’t want to bring bins out through the property. TV is to small. Tea/coffee/sugar would have been a nice touch. Off road parking was not ideal, some days having to park too far away from property in our opinion. Having made these comments the cost does reflect these issues to a degree.

  • "The Cottage was lovely and so was the village."

There were 2 drawbacks. The chairs in the sitting room were so hard it was like sitting on a wooden crate. Also the TV was too small. The other and main thing was the cottage is supposed to be dog friendly but the dogs were not supposed to go in the garden. Our young German Shepherd needs the loo at about 5 in the morning. There is no way I would walk him in the dark in the streets at that time. We always clean up after our dogs and a patch of earth would have been much appreciated. I am aware that not much time for the owner to cut grass etc on turnaround day but there should be somewhere for the dogs to toilet. Was pleased that there was plenty of dog bins around the village. Overall we had a lovely stay.

  • "Quite a nice place to stay though the bed and 'comfy' seats were harder than we are used to."

Bathroom mirror is out of alignment with the sink, so not easy for wet shaving. Also, a bit of a stretch to include photos of the lake, as it is some distance away. Kitchen cupboard space is a bit limited but only because there is so much crockery and so many glasses. Nice of the owner to leave some 'goodies', All in all, we had a good stay in spite of the points made above.

  • "Lovely cottage."

It had a nice homely feel and was well equipped for cooking. Comfortable bed and sofa. Good location for walking. We met some friendly locals too. Lots of lovely treats provided and a nice bottle of wine (although we didn’t drink this as we are both teetotal). Our German Shepherd tried to sit in the smallish dog bed provided giving us great amusement! It would have been good to have some printed walks with maps for the local area.

The property had everything you could need and more. Our dog felt welcomed with a dog bed and orange ball that she loved. We enjoyed the view from the table in the garden. Watching the lambs and rabbits run around.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Meadow Cottage."

It is very comfortable and cosy. The bathroom is enormous and has a good shower over the bath. The village is very quiet and it is easy to park on the road near the house. We especially liked being able to walk our dog straight from the door and into the National Trust parkland and around the lake at Farnborough Hall. Overall a really dog friendly place to stay.

Surprised to see present from last four legged friend on the astroturf! Those things aside, we had a lovely week. The meadow views from the cottage are beautiful. We would stay again.

  • "Thank you for allowing us to stay at Meadow View at a very stressful time in our lives."

It was a beautiful sanctuary where we could briefly recharge our batteries. We will be back, if necessary, and may well use you in the future as a crash pad for ourselves or close relatives. My only criticism was the white sofas and chairs and white bedding which looked stunning and sumptuous but was somewhat impractical with a puppy and that well-remembered thick red oozy Oxfordshire mud! Fortunately, we brought our own bedding and towels but forgot to bring throws for the sofas and chairs. Our many congratulations on providing a stunning self-catering cottage to the very highest of standards xxxx

  • "My wife and I spent 11 nights at Meadow View to spend time with my son and his fiancé who live in Banbury."

We enjoyed our time at the cottage as walking routes in the area are really extensive and the local villages are steeped in history and really beautiful. The cottage isn’t suitable for having anyone over for dinner – we had to bring two outdoor chairs inside and this made the cottage feel really cramped and the two single chairs in the lounge be quite uncomfortable. When speaking to Alistair on the day we were arriving at the cottage we realized that it didn’t have a freezer which would have been really inconvenient as had come from another holiday rental with quite a few frozen food items. Alistair kindly bought a freezer and delivered it shortly after our arrival – this was greatly appreciated. The heating stopped working on Saturday evening and Alistair could not have been more responsive – he managed to get this fixed while we were out for dinner on a Saturday evening. We highly recommend visiting The Plough in Warmington for lunch – a beautiful village which can be walked too from the cottage. A visit to the British Motor Museum is really worthwhile as it is only a few minutes from the cottage. Alistair was most responsive and always willing to assist when required. The welcome pack was also greatly appreciated.

The cottage is very sweet and great for 2 people looking to get away. The village is very peaceful and yet it is so easy to get to lots of great places. We would definitely recommend this cottage to others. We also had a welcome pack, the wine was especially good. A great place in a fantastic location.

  • "Beautiful little cottage, with wonderful views beyond the rear garden."

. Set in a beautiful village, with lovely nearby walks.. Check out the nearby Farnborough Hall, Burton Dassett Hills and the local river walk.. The cottage is well equipped, with a lovely garden, and very friendly neighbours. Decorated tastefully, with a comfy bed, high pressure shower and all the mod cons.. There are farm shops nearby and Banbury is only 10 mins away with lots of stores, or pop to Stratford for a wander by the river... only 30 mins away... I've stayed at the cottage twice and both times it felt like a home from home. It was sad to leave!!

  • "It was a great stay for the last three weeks."

Perfect little hideaway, we loved being able to sit both in front of the cottage and in the back garden, depending on the sun. It was perfect for our quarantine period and then 2 weeks of holidays. We loved the surrounding hills, walks to Fenny Compton and Avon Dassett, and some of the great pubs that were within 15 mins drive.

The eating house opposite was incredible - locally sourced dishes all made with love. Everything from the wood fired pizza to Sunday lunch was delicious. And the cottage itself - so cute and clean - great cooking facilities, attention to detail and very comfy bed. Also loved the views from the back of the house. We received a lovely welcome with fresh sourdough, bottle of wine and local honey. Only slight downside was no freezer, but that's it. Everything else was outstanding!

The only thing to comment on is that the seats in the living area were very uncomfortable to sit on. I would suggest that this is considered for future guests. We thought the management of the booking was exceptional, assisting us should we need anything. The booking process was also easy and professional. We will certainly book through Sykes Cottages again. Thank you.

  • "The cottage was lovely and ideally located for what we wanted to do, unfortunately we found there were two downsides."

One is that, whilst stylishly decorated, the sofa is terribly uncomfortable - not something you would lounge on after a day of walking. The second is that we had additional amphibian visitors which made us on edge. We had several frogs in the cottage two nights running, we scooped them up and put them outside but it made us very cautious about where we were putting our feet. If the sofa could be replaced with something more comfortable, and the frogs looked into, then we would definitely recommend this cottage.

The kitchen is well stocked and had everything I needed. The oudooor areas were pleasant with a seat looking out onto the village. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom has all mod cons with a view of the local cows! I was there in the heatwave and was glad of the coolness the cottage provided, The wifi signal, a must nowadays was strong but the television was rather small and you had to sit very close! The sofa and chairs were stylish, however they were very hard and uncomfortable. A case of style over substance. Definitely needs some comfortable seating.
