  • "Excellent holiday home for a large group of well behaved adults and teenagers."

Very well presented and great location for touring the Cotswolds. Seven lovely bedrooms with plenty of space to spread out. Lovely gardens and the separate very warm and insulated outbuilding hosts the large hot tub and shower and toilet block. A fine place to host a major celebration. We stayed 19 to 22 January 2024.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Malt Barn. It's lovely to hear you had a wonderful family gathering at the barn and that it was perfect for your needs. We hope to welcome you all back again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "A lovely place to stay with comfortable bedrooms, and spacious living areas that allowed our group to have space to themselves as well as share dinners and hang out together."

The facilities were great. The hot tub being in its own building with toilet and showers was great, plus being able to open the trifold doors on a lovely sunny day to enjoy the garden from the hot tub was fantastic. The location offers the best of rural idyll with supermarkets being a short drive (or walk) away. It was peaceful and any planes in the area were unobtrusive. Highly recommend for both summer and winter.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are pleased to hear that your group had such an enjoyable stay and made best use of all the facilities. We hope we can welcome you back again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

Very clean and well cared for inside Only issue, needed a new outdoor parasol as the one there was damaged and not very clear. Would help to put up a warning that the floor in the hot tub area gets slippery when wet

  • "This was a great place to stay, for our Silver Wedding celebrations!"

The rooms were comfortable and there was plenty of communal space. The kitchen was really well equipped, which was great as we provided the place and the family did all the catering. (Could do with an electric whisk - our fourteen year old grand daughter had planned a massive Pavlova! She succeeded, with a rotation of whiskers.) We had a lovely weekend, which will remain in all our memories.

Dot was really helpful and responsive leading up to our stay. Kitchen very well equipped. Hot tub great addition. Only small issues: wifi not great throughout the house and couldn’t seem to control the house temperature (it was too warm! Better than the other way round though!) deposit refunded quickly, no problem. Many thanks for a lovely stay, would recommend the house.

  • "The hot tub was not working on arrival."

A lazy spa was provided as a replacement. Engineers visited but the main tub still didn't heat. Whilst we appreciated the gesture if the lazy spa, our group consisted on older ladies, many of whom could not clamber into the lazy spa. It was also too small for us all to fit in. This was a huge disappointment as this was one of the main reasons for choosing the cottage. The stairs to the annexe are metal and not very easy to navigate. There were so many rules & notices, we felt rather uncomfortable in what was a lovely and otherwise homely cottage. Dot was very helpful & informative.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that there was a problem with the hot tub as this is unusual at Malt Barn. Unfortunately, the pump failure meant that the hot tub was unsafe and a specialist was called as a matter of urgency to source parts and fix the issues. In the meantime, the owner authorised an alternative lazy spa to be set up in the hot tub house for you which was the best solution that could be found at short notice. The health and safety of guests staying at the property is of the utmost importance and any notices are intended to help guests have a safe and relaxing stay. Malt Barn has a very good housekeeper and we're pleased to hear that the she was on hand during your stay. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Malt Barn . It's lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and I'm sorry to hear the house was a little warm for your liking, i guess it's better than being to cold in the very cold spell we had in December at around -10. Well equipped although we couldn't find a lemon squeezer (minor point as a lot of kit in kitchen). A floor plan on the listing would help to understand the layout better beforehand. Beds were so comfy the children want them at home, but bedlinen seemed dated. Style of locks on doors potentially tricky with toddlers. Loved the table tennis and hot tub.

We had so much fun together as a 3 generation family. As always the cottage was superb, very clean, the kitchen was well stocked with crockery, pans etc more than, enough for a large family. Very spacious grounds. The hot tub, table tennis and the other games were well used and appreciated particularly by our younger members who were quite competitive! A warm welcome from Dot as always. Her helpful and friendly manner and willingness to be on hand if needed was excellent. As a suggestion to allow downtime treat for games to be connected, or a different channel for other members of the family, there could be more TVs as there is only one in the lounge. • "The property itself is 5*, it was spotlessly clean, all outside space was excellent including hot tub."

The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, which was great for all the family to cook. However, the thing that let it down was the furnishings, which I would consider 3*. No blinds in the upstair bedroom skylights so awake as soon as it got light, no bar stools which meant only 6 people could be seated in kitchen, only 1 decent tv in property (you’d expect TVs in each of the bedrooms, very old coffee machine/toaster/kettle etc. The decoration, ie bedding/pillows were basic multi-buy. We felt for the price to stay, these things could have been more upmarket. Overall we really enjoyed stay but the lack of blinds in the bedroom was a particular issue unless you like being awake at the crack of dawn.

Thank you for your feedback. The owner has installed blinds into the skylights. We are pleased to hear the property was spotlessly clean and we totally agree the hot tub and outside space is excellent! We hope you return to the Cotswolds in the near future. Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We had a great family holiday."

The Hot Tub was a great success especially with the 3 young children in the party. They also enjoyed the access to the outdoor games, and as the weather was reasonable, they offered great opportunities for fun. The barn was warm and comfortable. The rooflight windows did cause some issues for those who find sleep in the light difficult, but a solution was found which caused no damage. Party members using the Annex bedroom felt more hooks for hanging clothes would be helpful. We would also have appreciated hooks in the Hot Tub building to hang towels/jackets. Dot, the friendly housekeeper, was very helpful, and available for any problems.

The place was very clean and the facilities excellent. Danielle was very helpful when we had an issue with the washing machine and even took some clothes to another property to be washed for us. The only issue we had was the lack of skylight blinds in the upstairs bedrooms which meant most of us did not get the amount of sleep we would have liked. If these could be added in the future this property would be perfect.

  • "Several things to point out."

    1. Had to clear up previous people’s dogs mess from garden on arrival - not pleasant. 2. No blinds in bedrooms made it hard to sleep beyond about 5am 3. Garden not secure - had to find Wood and block areas off so that dogs could safely be in small garden area. 4. Dvd not working - contacting them, told us small tv broke last week. Had to go and buy an hdmi cable to get it working! (Could have told us this as wasted whole evening trying to sort) 5. Only bath towels provided - no hand towels! Stated 2 towels per person. 6. No oven gloves - had to go and buy! 7. Rubbish and recycling in terrible mess - we sorted it all out. Not been put out by previous people and flies everywhere! 8. WiFi not working - previous people moved booster box and it took a lot of messages and me fiddling about to get it working. Other than these things (many of which should have been checked before new guests arrived) we had a lovely week. House suited our needs.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Malt Barn. We will pass on your comments to the owner for review and apologise for Housekeeping having missed any dogs mess on the grass. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Had a lovely holiday."

House was clean and beds were comfy. A few things that spoiled the overall experience: The check-in and check-out time kept changing throughout our booking and stay so more communication is needed between the housekeepers and Sykes. There are NO blinds on any of the skylights in the upstairs bedrooms, some of which are directly above the beds. Housekeeper’s response was,”it is what it is”. We had to use bin bags and towels to block out the light! Housekeeper came round and treated the hot tub at the exact moment we were getting in and told us we couldn’t then use it for 2 hours. Not ideal! Constant beeping noise was coming from the utility room. Rung housekeeper and was informed I needed to fix the problem myself. Again, not ideal!

We are glad you had a lovely holiday and we apologise for the few things that affected your overall stay. These have been addressed with the house keeper. Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Lovely place for all family to stay."

Great facilities. While this barn do allow dogs to stay be weary of the additional charge and what it covers. Our dog did get some mud on the bed sheets which we were charged to replace to the tune of £80 rather than a dry clean. We'd paid an additional £20 per dog to stay and this wasn't considered when deducting the cost of replacing the sheets. We like to take our dogs with us on holiday and this is somewhere we wouldn't come back to on the basis of above experience.

The oven was so complicated to use you needed to work at NASA! But these were very minor issues as the accommodation was superb and better equiped than our own homes. Right down to a cupcake stand which we needed for my birthday cupcakes! We were all very impresed. The hot tub building was out of action which we weren't advised about but the hot tube was still usable so that was fine. Pub the Mason's Arms down the road was very good value for Sunday lunch.

The property

This delightful holiday property set in a quiet location within the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, a short distance from Burford.

The property is presented to a very high standard with seven bedrooms, three with ensuite shower rooms, a further two with ensuite toilet and basin and one family bathroom available making it absolutely prefect for large group gatherings - be they friends or family.

Internally the property retains many period features along with countless contemporary touches to give this a real high quality, minimalist feel.

An element that particularly appealed to us was the large ground floor which has the feeling of being 'open plan' but actually has separate 'rooms' and thus creates a sense of being together without all the noise that this can sometimes bring!

Similarly appealing are the large gardens to the rear of the property, which the owners have thoughtfully added a hot tub, skittles and table tennis which are just as much fun for friends (adults) as they are families with children!

A great choice.

There is a maximum of 14 guests allowed at this property.

Infants not included in this number and there are two cots avalable.

About the location

Burford

Burford is possibly one of, if not THE most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located mid way between Oxford and Cheltenham (25 mins each away) it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit.

The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits!

With little changing over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.
