  • "An excellent cottage."

Clean, comfortable and well equipped. The downstairs bedroom with en suite facilities was ideal for my elderly father. The cottage is in a beautiful and quiet rural location but with easy access to all the main Cotswolds sites. It was a pleasure to sit outside on an evening watching the sun go down (the September weather was surprisingly good).

  • "Gallery Barn is a beautiful converted barn with a fantastic open aspect with the high vaulted roof and gallery."

It was a home from home with everything catered for and very comfortable. It is in the grounds of a farm with sheep all around which were very entertaining. It is a beautiful, peaceful location but just a 10 min drive from Burford which is a lovely little town that has much to offer with quirky shops, lovely pubs and restaurants, art shops and of course a supermarket. I would thoroughly recommend for a restful stay with the opportunity to go out and explore so many wonderful places that the Cotswolds has to offer. I didn't meet my hosts until the day I was leaving but that was mainly due to the fact that I was out every day enjoying different activities. I have to mention the 'Eggs' locally sourced and 3 double yokers!!!!

The cottage itself was situated in a wonderful rural settig surrounded by fields and farm animals. The cottage had everything we needed and more and completely met our needs. It was as described in the brochure.

  • "Barn met our expectations and was a home from home."

  • "A Little Sanctuary in the Cotswolds!"

We loved this place! Out in the country surrounded by beautiful black-headed Cotswold sheep, we came back each day from the busy towns to our little refuge. Each of six days, we made forays to different parts of the Cotswolds, which all have their own personality. The closest town Burford is charming with all the amenities and several wonderful places to eat. (We loved the Angel best.) This place was ideally suited for two couples or a small family

Drive could do with a bit of attention to the potholes.

About the location

Witney 5 miles, Burford 6 miles, Stow on the Wold 13 miles, Oxford 19 miles

Leafield is centred round the ancient village Greens, common land now used as an area for children’s play and a site for fêtes. There was originally a pond on the north western part of the Greens, but it was filled in the late 1950s.

At the eastern end of the Greens is the village cross. Only the base remains of the original, the shaft having been destroyed by vandals around 1850. In 1873 the cross was restored to commemorate the inhabitants deliverance from smallpox.

Although the village was established by at least the 11th century, there are few medieval remains and these are limited to features in houses that were later extensively rebuilt. St Michael and All Angels’ church, built in 1859, is an outstanding example of the work of Sir George Gilbert Scott, though the previous chapels on the site date back to at least the fifteenth century. The picturesque school on the Greens was established in 1839 and has altered little over the past 100 years.

Nineteenth century Baptist and Primitive Methodist chapels have been converted into houses, as have three former inns, the smithy, the bakery, the butchers and other village shops of the nineteenth and early twentieth century.

Nowadays, and after being closed for a number of years, the village needs are served by The Fox, a traditional country pub, with the emphasis being very much on proper pub grub rather than fine dining!
