  • "We had a fantastic week-end stay in Gables Cottage."

It is perfectly equipped & extremely comfortable with loads of old world charm. Churchill itself is a beautiful village, well located for local attractions. The Chequers Pub is wonderful, v.welcoming with great food (probably the best Sunday Lunch we’ve ever had!!) The only slight glitch over our stay was that there was no fire lighting kit for the wood burner, but a quick call to Manor Cottages & this was sorted out the same evening. Definitely one of our favourite Cotswold cottages & we will definitely return.

Thank you so much for this lovely review. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay at Gables Cottages and loved the village location too. We look forward to welcoming you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage, everything we needed."

There was no fire kit but we called Sykes and one was dropped off. Not a problem, it was probably the first time this season it had been needed. Beds were extremely comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. Lovely pub within a few minutes walk. Highly recommend.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Gables Cottage. It's lovely to hear you had a wonderful stay and I'm happy to hear you got your fire starting kit. We would love to welcome you back again very soon. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Overall the cottage was lovely however we had a few issues on arrival."

The heating wasn't working and the housekeeper hadn't provided a starter pack for the fire, bin liners or washing up things. With it being a Sunday night we called Sykes and they were brilliant at resolving the heating within a couple of hours, we have a 3 month old baby so this was important. They also resolved the housekeeping issues the following morning. On a positive note, the kitchen was well equipped for making our own meals and the garden was secure for the dogs. We had a lovely time.

Thank you for your feedback, with regards to your stay at Gables Cottage. It's lovely to hear you enjoyed your family stay with us and that the small issue was dealt with quickly by the Team. We hope you enjoyed the stay and we would love to welcome you back in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

Everything we needed was provided and more - it's clear the owners have really thought everything through. The location is a perfect base set in a very peaceful village and the garden at the property is beautiful which came equipped with everything we needed i.e. BBQ, chairs with cushions etc. Would highly recommend the property and will certainly consider visiting again. Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Gables Cottage. It's wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed your stay with us at the cottage. I hope you managed to enjoy some of the wonderful places to visit in the area too. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "The oven glove we found in a drawer was soiled with food."

There were no additional black bags for the rubbish once the first ones were full so we had to buy our own. There were also no instructions at all regarding the rubbish and recycling so we had to guess and no indoor facilities for the food waste to then be taken outside to the outside food bin ( which only materialised after a few days). There was minimal amount of cutlery and crockery, 6 of each, which was very restrictive meaning we had to wash items regularly instead of waiting till we had a full load for the dishwasher. The hot water in the kitchen sink is dangerously hot. The doors on the middle landing for the respective staircases are such that the lower door swings open against the upper staircase door and one night I was trapped upstairs as I could not open the upstairs door as the lower door was wedged against it. A door stop attached to the floor would prevent the lower staircase door from trapping the upstairs one.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of the issues that you encountered. We have passed your comments onto our Property Management Team for them to investigate. We hope you were able to enjoy your visit to the area. Best wishes Character Cottages Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in a lovely location."

The garden is beautiful and enclosed, so nicely dog friendly (unless your dog is quite small as they could get through the bars of the gate). Unfortunately, the cleaning could have been better. The bread bin still had the previous occupants bread in it, the bin still had their recycling in it and we had to wash all of the crockery before we could use it as it was dirty.

Many thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're so glad you loved the cottage and location. However, we're very sorry to hear that the cleanliness was not up to our usual high standards and this is now being investigated. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. • "Beautiful property and very clean."

Instructions in the manual were not very clear. We arrived when it was very cold and could not out the heating on. After 'phoning the office someone came out the next day after spending a very cold night with one 3 year old who was getting over bronchitis (there were only enough logs for about 3 hours and bedrooms were cold) it was found there was no oil in the tank fir the heating, which he soon rectified. We had been out and bought more logs for the log burner but this only heated the sitting room. This spoilt the first couple of days, we were only there for 4 days. Other than that the cottage was very nice. I do think the manual needs looking at and some of the crockery needs replacing as a lot of it was chipped, but the village of Chirchill is really beautiful and the cottage and garden was lovely.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're so sorry , there was a problem with the oil during your stay, this is very unusual. We will check the house manual and the crockery. We're pleased that you enjoyed Gables Cottage and its garden overall and had a lovely time in Churchill. Best wishes, Character Cottages. Property Owner

Only issue we experienced was that the toilet in the main bathroom was not flushing. Reported the problem and was attended to very quickly although it needed a part which would arrive after we had departed. Was not a problem though as we were shown how to flush the toilet from inside the cistern.

  • "The cottage is absolutely beautiful and so cosy, even better than the pictures!"

It is situated in a great place, Churchill has a few lovely walks right on your doorstep and a really lovely pub with great food. Kingham (closest town) is 5 mins drive away and stow-on-the wold and bourton-on-the-water are both within 15m drive which is great. The only issue we had was with the heating which was put on an auto-timer that you are not allowed to touch, the heating for 2 days just didnt come on so perhaps there could be instructions with what to do here. We called character cottages and the dealt with it quickly, but it would still be helpful to have something in the cottage so that you can just sort it out yourself immediately. Other than that, its an absolutely gorgeous setting and place and would highly recommend!

Thank you for your feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Gables Cottage. We appreciate your comments and will investigate this. Best wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner

  • "Property is perfect."

Great location, great size, wonderfully clean. My only two minor gripes, as another reviewer pointed out, is that it would benefit from including instructions - especially for the hob (very complicated) and the oven (which we could not get out of safe mode). The kitchen is well equipped but that’s pointless if nobody can work out how to use it! Second gripe would be the ensuite shower. Water pressure and water temperature are a bit low.

Thank you for providing feedback for your stay at Gables Cottage. It's great to get feedback from our guests and we will get the Housekeeper to look at including more instructions for the hob/oven for guests to use. We will also get the shower looked at with regards to the pressure and temperature. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Property Owner

I appreciate with Covid rules it is more difficult to leave information in properties but if the information was laminated & cleanable it should be possible.

Thank you for your feedback. We set a high standard for ourselves, and we’re so sorry to hear this was not met in your interaction with our property. Thanks for taking the time to bring this to our attention. We will use the feedback to help us improve. Property Owner
