“Perfect, Family friendly, Quiet Lakeside Lodge.”

“I never thought the lodge would be that big but it was huge.” ...

“I never thought the lodge would be that big but it was huge.” Three super king-size bedrooms all with ensuite. So modern and clean. A 55" tv with 260 DVDs to choose from. You won't need to take any. The hot tub was enjoyed by the wife and kids. It was superb, covered, very private and had lights built in just under the surface. It was set at 38 degrees which was perfect. This can be changed. It was lovely to sit in it while the rain hit the roof. There was a brilliantly laid out kitchen with all modern features and a large fridge freezer. The lodge came with tea, coffee, sugar, and 2 litres of complimentary milk to get you going. Toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets, all towels and bedding are also supplied. The beds have memory foam mattresses and are so comfy. Also for kids with power hungry gadgets, don't worry, there were 32 sockets just in the lounge and kitchen. The patio doors are a nice wide size and open up to a huge decking area which overlooks the lake. Beautiful to sit down in the morning with a coffee and take in the atmosphere. The lodge has 2 huge storage cupboards / cloakroom as you go in so plenty of storage. Although a washing machine is the only thing missing, the plumbing is already in and the owner told us it would be in very shortly. Alan and his wife are the nicest people you can meet and make sure your stay is perfect. They show you around on arrival and Alan popped over in the evening to chat to us while we fished. The lodge has full independent underfloor heating and every room has its own thermostat, and the daughter loved waking on the warm floor in her bedroom. The rooms heat up really quickly. There is a massive storage shed at the back of the lodge for fishing tackle, bikes, golf clubs, etc. Fully lockable. The gates are closed at 9pm for even more security and you are given the combination to the lock if you stay out later. The onsite cafe is fantastic and the sausage and bacon barm cakes are to die for, and at £3.50 are a bargain. They also do full meals, again fantastic plus the usual tea, coffee, drinks cakes, etc. The ladies in there were so friendly and me and my son would walk round in the morning (5 minutes from the lodge), then bring back the breakfast and eat it on the decking overlooking the lake. We booked this so we could spend family time during the day and I could have a few hours fishing in the evening. The fishing was superb. Me and my son had over 50 carp in 3 evenings fishing from around 5:30 pm till 9 pm. They ranged from 4lb to low doubles. We fished peg 29 outside the lodge. When I say outside the lodge, you are literally 30ft from the lake. For the anglers, don't go complicated. Due to space in the car, I took one 9ft nash dwarf rod, 2 bank sticks, 1 bite alarm and a small rucksack of tackle. We fished an inline 1oz lead with a quick change swivel and 4" matrix hook length to a size 12 hair rig hook. The bait was pellets for loose feed and we used nash strawberry crush and tangerine dream boilies in 12mm and 10mm for hook baits. Rod set up with 2 bank sticks and the bite alarm. Bait with pellets from 5.30 to 6.00 and at 6.45 each night it just kicked off. We could barely set the bite alarm and bobbin before it ripped off. Simple tactics and loads of fish. You are on lake 5 and it's full of fish. We also had some great bream and F1's. Don't worry about a landing net or unhooking mat. Alan was more than happy to lend me one rather than squeeze it in the car. Also if you are in a lodge, the fishing is normally free. For eating out we went to a pub only 5 minutes drive away called the bulls head. Gorgeous pub food and cheap. For 4 of us with main meals, desserts and drinks, it was £40. Well worth not cooking for. Other places to visit were Tropical Birdland. The birds, mostly parrots and budgies fly free and land on you if you buy the food. It's a great day out and only 40 minutes from the lodge. They are building a few more lodges at the time I write this so you may see a bit of rubble and some knocking in of nails by Alan and his mates, as they are building the lodges themselves, but it never spoils the holiday. We booked this through Sykes Cottages and it says there may be some road noise due to the location of the M69. Don't worry its barely noticeable, as its so peaceful. For places to shop try Royal Lemington Spa. Loads of shops and so many places to get coffee and cake. Park at the far end of town as it's only £3 all day. Overall everything about this holiday and the lodge was 100%. Quiet, peaceful, 5-star accommodation with hot tub, brilliant fishing and fantastic hosts in Alan and his wife. We are already working out dates for next year. You won't be disappointed.

About the location

Nuneaton 5.5 miles; Birmingham 28 miles; Stratford-upon-Avon 28 miles

A delightfully small village in the north of Warwickshire. Wolvey is small yet offers all of your essentials including two very well-respected bar/restaurants along with a village shop, post office, bowling club and the Wolvey Hall, a Grade II listed building dating back to the 17th century. The parish village also has the River Anker running through it and offers some fantastic views, buildings and scenery. Despite this being a charming village, there are a lot of big cities nearby. Should you need to go shopping then Birmingham is within easy access, whereas a more cultural place would be Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare. Closer is the town of Nuneaton, a thriving place offering something for everybody.
