  • "13 - 20th October 2023 We stayed for one week in this quirky home."

We enjoyed our stay and found our hosts very helpful. This has a well appointed kitchen, but be aware, the this is downstairs, and the dinning area is upstairs, accessed by the spiral stairs. Once you get used to it, it became quite normal. This was the quirky bit! We used the local busses to travel all over the place, and enjoyed a visit to Kidderminster to go on the steam railway. I can recommend the local chip shop across the way from the house, but we ordered only one portion of chips, (Told by our host it would be enough for two) and she was right.) Also, for a nice meal out, we went to the Land Oak, on the Birmingham road, just outside of Kidderminster. We may return again in the future.

  • "We booked the cottage in Cookley for a week and were happy with the accommodation provided."

It was a very cold week but the lounge/bedroom stayed cosy and comfortable. The circular staircase was a concern to us before we arrived but it was very sturdy with a solid handrail and easy to climb as long as you are mobile. The owner was extremely helpful and made the property very welcoming. It is well positioned in terms of access to Tesco, takeaways and pubs and the cafe below provides an excellent breakfast!

  • "A quirky interesting flat in a nice little village near enough to a town to go further afield, and quiet and peaceful where it is."

A Tesco opposite and two takeawys catering for most tastes I would imagine. As a pedestrian the local bus service stops a little early but that's no fault of the flat's owners. A comfy bed and seven fairly good noght's sleep as I find a little trafic noise comforting. The design of the flat wold not suit people with mobility issues as there are stairs from the kitchen to the heart of the flat. A very interesting spiral staircase that needs spiralling up and down quite a lot. There are also a few steps that are uneven, from the small hallway to the living room, that could be given some attention to straighten them as they were a little tricky to use. The bath is huge which is good but for someone not very tall like myself I felt I could have done with some steps to get in and out of it.

The flat is 200 years old and in description described the different levels and stairs. The bath is a standard p shaped bath So not quite sure why would need steps inside bath. Giving me a low score for cleanliness when I was left with not a pleasant mess in one room I feel you are over zealous in your scoring Property Owner

  • "An comfortable cottage/apartment, with kitchen on the ground floor and bathroom, living room and bedroom on the first floor reached by a spiral staircase."

The kitchen is generally well equipped with a good cooker and fridge freezer and although the basis are all there, it would benefit from a tea cosy, a pair of sharp (steak type) knives for cutting meat and some better quality cutlery that does not bend when used. The bed is large and comfy, although with a heavy mattress, so making it is a bit more of an effort than it need to be. The living room is bright and airy, with a table plenty big enough for two and plenty of seating, although the sofa was a bit low for me (that said it was OK for my wife),The television is on-line only with access to Netflix, Prime and You Tube (none of these require the visitor to have an appropriate account to watch. To watch ordinary TV it's a simple matter to hook up to Sky Go or similar via a laptop). The bathroom is large with a good powerful shower and plenty of hot water. The owner who runs the tea shop/café below is very friendly and helpful (and the breakfast there is good). Overall the cottage was comfortable, more to the point it is well located for exploring the area with the Severn Valley Railway, The Black Country Living Museum, Blists Hill Victorian village as well as many National Trust properties within easy travelling distance.

Thank you for your review If you would of popped in cafe would have sorted you some steak knifes. As to the bed will admit it is heavy to lift but quality counts and I have tried to furnish property with good quality items. And as for a tea cosy never been asked for one in over 5 years and 3 holiday rentals but will ask future guests if this is something that would enhance their stay with us. As we try to make a guests time with us a great holiday experience Property Owner

  • "Great accommodation."

Well fitted kitchen with new appliances. Spacious bathroom and comfy sitting room. Large bedroom with comfortable bed. I would mention the three steps from the hall into Sitting room need to be taken carefully as very small and uneven with a low sloped ceiling which needs careful attention both ways to avoid hitting head, particularly visiting the toilet during the night. We had a great holiday & the owners were lovely. Would definitely recommend & re-visit.

Thank you for a lovely review. It is quirky place low door ways and then one ceiling 10ft high. It is a lovely space to stop and thank you for your kind words Property Owner

We made full use of the facilities and nearby chippy, Indian takeaway, pubs and buses. It is very well located for canal walks, bluebell walks, museum visits (Black Country Living Museum and Carpet Museum) and arboretums. We had a lovely week and would definitely consider visiting again at a different time of year.

I can Highly recommend the Swifts Nest. The owner Ellen is such an accommodating lovely lady, nothing is too much trouble. The apartment is set within a building with history and lots of character. This adds to the charm of the property. It is very clean with everything you would need for a comfortable break. The shower/bath is good with lots of hot water. The television doesn’t have live TV but that was okay for our stay, our free time was walking and visiting the local area. Across the road is a fabulous Chip Shop, Indian Takeaway (you can pre-order and collect) and a very well stocked Tesco Express. There is ample carparking facilities located at the back of the building.

  • "We had a lovely few days at Swift’s Nest, it is a comfortable accommodation, cosy in these winter months."

Only a couple of points we’d make: key pick up needs updating, there’s no one in the cafe after 2:00, and no direct access from the car park ( as described). There are 3 steps from the lounge to the hall way, the unevenness of the steps are a potential trip hazard. But these were minor things and didn’t detract from our overall stay.

The building is nearly 200 years old and has different floor levels and ceiling heights Which add character to accommodation The key access is a key code box The access is down an alley way into private courtyard it’s as direct as I know Also the coffee shop closes at two in the afternoon as I do have my own home and family I’m only a phone call or 5 mins away Property Owner

  • "The apartment is handily situated for walks along the Worcestershire and Staffordshire canal to Kinver one way and Kidderminster the other."

There are also some nice walks around Cookley and Kinver Edge and the Malvern Hills and an easy hour's drive away. The proprietress of the apartment is very friendly and has lots of useful information where to visit in the area. The chip shop opposite the apartment served up a very nice fish and chip supper, and there is an Indian takeaway next door to the chippy but we didn't try that. With a Tesco Express very nearby and two pubs within fifty metres, there's plenty of choice for eating and drinking.

  • "Lovely little apartment and well presented."

The bread and eggs were welcome. It was a little cold when we arrived but a quick turn of the thermostat soon had the place warm and cozy. The Indian takeaway, chip shop and Tesco express across the road were handy as were the two nearby pubs especially after completing one of the suggested walks . We only stayed a couple of nights over a bank holiday weekend but would have liked to have been able to stay longer.

The apartment itself was very clean, warm and cosy, with everything you could need for cooking, relaxing - nice bath and plenty of hot water! And good wi-fi. The spiral staircase was a unique feature though not for less mobile people. Welcome bread and eggs was a nice touch and friendly welcome from the owner and easy check-in with the lock box. Easy to get around the local area, busy chippy across the road and a small Tesco for essentials and a lovely walk along the canal nearby. Would recommend for a nice break.

  • "Swift's Nest is a quirky holiday apartment."

You enter through The courtyard of The Farmers Den cafe. Downstairs is a well equipped kitchen where we found a welcome basket with eggs, milk and bread rolls. then you get to the first floor via a spiral staircase. Upstairs is a bath with shower over, a nice lounge with a smart tv, and a good size bedroom. The bedroom faces the main road through the village of Cookley but the traffic goes quiet during the evening and night so no problem sleeping. There is a king size very comfortable bed with nice linen and plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The nicest part of the experience of staying there are the lovely lady owners Ellen and Bronwyn who work in their cafe downstairs. We were made really welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We used to join them for coffee and a chat with the locals. It was like an information bureau with everyone telling us where to visit. We visited for 7 days and there were so many places to visit we shall have to go back because we did not have time to see everything. The pubs in the village are not doing food but about a mile away is a great pub The Island Pool with plenty of others close by serving food. The apartment is opposite and take away fish and chip shop and a Tesco express both very useful. Just a couple of points we were able to use the tables in the cafe courtyard at any time and there is not a dishwasher.
