“Lovely spacious house”
We were 4 adults and 2 small children. We loved the space of the house and it was immaculately clean. When we arrived it was toasty warm with central heating and a log fire. Logs are available from the owner for a charge and these were plentiful and quick to be delivered. The owner, Grant, set the heating for us at times we thought we would need it (morning and evening) and the house was really warm the whole visit. Plenty of beds and lovely comfy couches. Sky Q tv and WiFi so lots of entertainment available. Kitchen has the basic cutlery and pots as well as some plates, glasses, cups and bowls. There’s a dishwasher and washing machine and two fridges. There are lots of things to do in the surrounding areas. We did Cadbury world, the Severn railway, Birmingham botanic Gardens and visited the local towns. There’s also a nice walk on the grounds around the lake. We didn’t see the owners much even though they are next door but when we did they were very pleasant and Grant was chatty and obliging. We were asked to leave the house tidy which we did of course, having treated the house with respect it didn’t take long to tidy up. All in all we had a lovely week. Thanks Grant and Nicola.
“The holiday could have been great if there were no restrictions on when we could n couldnt switch on the heating.”
The tempereture dropped at night and the land lady would text saying we should switch off the heating. The customer service was really poor and the property wasnt that clean. All windows seals had cobwebs. On the day of departure, the landlady did not ask how our stay was. She just inspected the property and gave us back our deposit looking very grumpy.
“Excellent. Ticked every box.”
I don't normally make time to post reviews but feel compelled to highly recommend this place. I am also very grateful for the time taken by other people who gave their positive reviews, which I agree with wholeheartedly. Moreover, I was not surprised to see that their 'Guest Book' had been filled with lovely comments from other families - we had a fabulous time! We were given a warm welcome by the owners, whom we found to be genuinely friendly and very helpful. Grant and Nicola were also very respectful and completely unobtrusive, plus we had absolutely no issue with the deposit. Indeed, what with 4 'lively' kids with us, it's quite a feat to NOT inflict some damage - which did happen - but Grant & Nicola were totally cool and more than reasonable about it. As for the place itself...quality! Very clean, modern and spacious enough for 2 families, with inspirational views all around. Plenty of kids games for rainy days and even a Sky package! The Wi-Fi was generally great throughout the week, especially considering the location, with photos being constantly uploaded and shared. As for the overall location, I couldn't recommend this highly enough as "an easy" stay for families, as it has everything that's great about England: nearby parks, beautiful nature walks and woodlands, steam trains and museums, safari & leisure park, farms, etc. The necessary supermarkets are less than 10 minutes away and do online deliveries. Planning our days was made even easier as Grant & Nicola had a very organised collection of leaflets re: the local attractions. All in all, everything we wished for and more!
“Excellent property, lots of facilities for the large group.”
Owners onsite and very helpful. Great place to gather and unwind. Thoroughly recommend this property.
“Shatterford Escape To The Country”
Had a lovely weeks holiday with Family here. Beautiful location in lovely setting. Grant the owner was extremely helpful with anything we needed help with and couldn't do enough for us. House was well presented and clean. Couldn't really fault anything although the WiFi signal could do with boosting. Great base for exploring the local area. Would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone and would stay here again.
“Great holiday home in a wonderful location.”
Very spacious modern house in the quiet countryside, but in easy reach of all amenities in Kidderminster. Fantastic views from the property. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Lots to see and do in the area. Highly recommended.
“An alternative view”
We booked Park View Lodge for our family holiday for several reasons. The good reviews on Sykescottages.co.uk. were a deciding factor. However, two days before the start of our holiday we were browsing Trip Advisor and we noticed 2 very negative reviews for Park View Lodge. This did cause us some concern. Nevertheless we decided to approach the holiday with an open mind. We stayed for the week after Easter and on arrival the owners met us and we found them to be welcoming and helpful. They had put logs on the fire two hours before we arrived and the heating was switched on. This made us feel comfortable and relaxed immediately. The cottage is very spacious. The main living room is huge and there is a sizeable dining room, but for meal times the kitchen was adequate with a good size table to gather round. The owners have been hiring out their cottage for only two years. They live in the other half of the cottage. They said they were happy to be offered constructive comments as they want to be able to continue providing good service. All the appliances you would expect were present; dishwasher, microwave, a fridge and fridge freezer, cooker and TV with full Sky package including all the movie channels. There was wear and tear on some of the appliances but they were all in full working order. The Wi-Fi signal was intermittent. Due to the position of the hub next door, the signal was strongest on the side of the house joined to the owners. Also, perhaps a hairdryer would have been good. But these are minor points that did not impact in any way on our enjoyment of the holiday. Throughout our stay, we found the owners to be friendly and helpful. They were particularly kind and understanding when my partner asked them for an unusual favour. But they put themselves out and went that extra mile. I appreciate their empathy and effort to do this for her. The cottage is situated in a very attractive location within a fishery with surrounding lakes, We could wander down to the lakes near the cottage or we could venture further afield and the cottage was stocked with plenty of leaflets and information on local activities and locations. There is a Co op 5 minutes down the road for essentials and also all major supermarkets are just 15 minutes away in Kidderminster. At the end of the holiday the owners returned our full £200 deposit, We were a party of 9, including 2 teenagers and a toddler so there was a higher than average probability of damage or spillage. Nevertheless there was no problem with the owners returning our full deposit without quibble. We would definitely recommend this cottage to others. I would also like to add that the owners visitors book contained very many positive reviews from happy and satisfied customers.
