  • "This is an excellent property located in an interesting location overlooking the canal basins in Stourport."

This was our third visit to Mart Lane and we will continue to use this house when we come to this part of the country. The property is warm and comfortable; the kitchen is very well equipped; the master bedroom is en suite; the beds are comfortable. Parking is very easy with plenty of space for a large SUV. The location is good with Tesco across the road and the town centre a five minute walk away. There’s a good bus service serving the local area and there are plenty of walks in this lovely part of the country.

The instructions to find the parking at the rear need revising, the names of the apartments have been changed and the wording on the documentation needs to be changed. Very confusing for first time arrival!

However had to clean microwave before were able to use (curry splashes) and very large back doorway cobwebs. ( other guests had left that morning) Shame elephant footstool missing as would have provided better comfort for one of our party. 10.5 tog duvet was much too hot for September, but no alternative in cupboards. Careful of the dish drainer, slope to one side unbalances upturned glasses!

  • "Overall the property was excellent and well equipped so would be happy to stay again - a few simple additions (when compared to the many other cottages we have stayed at) would have made it even better: some sort of welcome pack would have been nice eg include some fresh milk, local produce, biscuits, cake, bottle of wine."

Shame the tea / sugar / coffee jars were all empty on arrival having a little of each to cater for the first day or so would have been nice (we left some tea bags for the next guest). Having access to Netflix and Amazon prime was useful but shame wasn’t extended to the main tv so whole family could watch together. Agree with online comment that blinds in the kitchen would have been useful. Having 8 sets of plates etc would have been useful and ensured more efficient use of the dishwasher. Info on local bin collection should be included in the info folder as wasn’t clear when bins were to be put out or what could / couldn’t be recycled. Outside Bins weren’t empty on arrival as suspect previous guest didn’t know either.

  • "There was no blind on the east facing French windows in the kitchen, this was a problem if you all need to sit round the table eating breakfast in the morning, it was blinding in the sun."

Previous visitors had dogs, there were dog blankets under the sofa in the lounge. This property was advertised as ‘no dogs’ which we took as daughter has asthma caused by dog allergies.

Hi Joanne, Thank you for your feedback, I’ll definitely have a look at the blind situation in the kitchen, it’s the first time it’s been mentioned so not aware it was such an issue. There are no pets allowed at the property so not sure what the blankets under the sofa are from but I can assure you it’s not from a dog. I’ll ensure the matter is thoroughly investigated. The facilities are excellent as is the location. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the boats and barges as they moved through or moored up. We also enjoyed our walks along the tow path and surrounding area. We’ve already booked to return next year. Just a note to Sykes, could do with the instructions regarding finding the back of the property adjusting as I had to phone the owner on arrival and seek her assistance in this. This she obviously willingly did but if she had been unavailable I’m not sure what I would have done.

  • "The house was as described and entry was easy via the key lock."

Unloading from the rear car park was no problem with only one step up to floor level via the rear patio door. If you were lucky enough to be able to park at the front (the space was occupied for the 1 week duration of our stay) then entry was without steps because floor level with the outside pavement. The heating was easily controlled by the thermostat in the hall and the house was cosy and warm without the need to use the electric fire in the lounge. Plenty of hot water from the combi-boiler at any time. The family bathroom shower gets it’s hot water from the boiler whilst the en-suite shower has an electrical shower. Both worked well. The main double bed was extremely comfortable, I suspect the other beds would be as comfortable but we did not use them. Upstairs fully carpeted and downstairs laminate flooring. The instructions were reasonably clear except no instructions for oven or microwave. Plenty of information for the surrounding area. Unfortunately the contact email seems not to function since I could not get a response to my questions about rubbish collection day or to alert them to the fact that the left front gas burner will not stay alight and probably needs a new sensor. We did not eat out so cannot provide any information about local restaurants. We can however recommend the nearby Black Star pub on Mitton Street for its selection of local real ales. The Tesco supermarket is about 3 minutes walk away via the back door. The views to the front of the house look on to the canal basin and can be interesting depending on narrow boat movements and your own interest. We found the area quiet even at the weekend (but it was a cold week in March) and it is possible to walk both upstream and downstream from the property along the bank of the Severn river. All in all a great rental property.

The facilities, having the option of 3 toilets, 2 showers and a bath was excellent. The size of the property suited us really well, having a snug as well as the main lounge, both with very comfortable seating and plenty of electric sockets to use multiple devices is great too. The beds are comfortable, we all slept really well. We were a little close to 'The Wharf', which has 'Live' music on a Friday, but they stop at 11.30pm, so it didn't stop us sleeping. The clock bell rings the time on the hour, day and night, disturbing for our daughter at night (both children have autism/sensitive to noise). A lovely patio garden, with two sets of patio doors that open out to it. Be lovely in the summer. So much to do and see around the Canal boat Marina, you certainly don't need to leave the area for entertainment, especially if you like walking. A lot of history. We ate out in several local cafe's and The Windlass, just down from the cottage. All the staff are brilliant and caring.

Thank you so much for your lovely review, I'm delighted you liked the house and that you found lots to do locally, Your point regarding the clock marking the hour has been noted, I'll make other guests aware just in case it causes a similiar issue for another family. Property Owner

Perfectly situated for us to see family. With lovely views of the canal basin and the barges. Two minute walk from the River Severn, canals, pubs and restaurants. Pretty garden area with seating and a big bonus is the two private parking spaces at the back of the house. Extremely quiet too which we loved as we live in the countryside. Super comfy home which made our one day and evenings in really cosy. You really couldn't ask for anything else in a home. We visited Warwick Castle, Alton Towers, The Black Country Museum, Legoland (London) & The West Midlands Safari Park. We used The Angel pub, beer was good, great views & lovely staff but food was standard & very slow (one hour for a sandwich and a gammon meal and only one other table outside ordering food and no one inside - wouldn't like to order during the Summer!), Namaste Indian for take away (which is right at the end of the road) and oh my word the food was amazing, The Old Beams (went twice), food was fab and the staff were great, Golden country (High Street) for Cantonese food (take away) and again amazing food. There are lots of tearooms in Stourport (including one right along from the house) with lovely looking cake etc but we just didn't have time to visit. We tried Kimmy loves cake in Bewdley and omg this is a must. Michelle the owner was lovely and easily contactable. We will definitely be staying at Mart Lane again soon and recommending to our friends. We took two older teens and a five year old and they loved it. Netflix and YouTube were a god send and great WIFI too. The small TV room was awesome as five year olds don't always want to watch what us oldies do! We are in our 50s so the house was perfect for us all and there was something to do locally for all ages.. Thank you Michelle... x

Spotlessly clean. Location is superb with really nice walks from the doorstep and with shops and eateries only a short walk away. Recommend Namaste Indian Restaurant which is literally less than 100 metres walk. Read previous reviews about parking and noise - yes there was a car parked constantly out front but parking at rear was more than adequate and, in my view, more secure. Noise from the road was really only from a few cars and pedestrians on Friday and Saturday evenings and was definitely not excessive. Only disappointment was the bed in the master which was certainly not 'King size' as listed.
