  • "Fourways is a brilliant property in a great location for exploring Wiltshire."

In walking distance to the excellent Four Stars pub which I can recommend highly. 20 minutes from Stonehenge and 15 minutes from Avebury (In the car!) Our dog was more than happy with the small but perfectly safe garden and approved of the local walks

Thanks so much for positive review. I will have great fun telling the owner of the Seven Stars that his rating has dropped to Four Property Owner

  • "Very poor shower and hot water was plentiful but very slow little disappointed by the fact it was surrounded on all sides by roads."

Not happy with being told to leave the place clean and tidy on our last day by e-mail spoilt the holiday

Maybe Wiltshire and cottage living is not your thing, but thank you for trying. Whilst Fourways is surrounded by rural roads, it is also surrounded by beautiful countryside, fantastic walks and the richest Saxon and Palaeolithic history that can be found in the UK. Fourways is over 150 years old and has been kept as a characterful English home with a solid fuel Rayburn, wood burner and plentiful hot water. Its garden in Spring is the epitome of English cottage garden. We were not aware that of the email so, they must be an automatic Sykes thing. Very sorry that it completely spoiled your holiday. We did not realise that being asked to act respectfully was so intrusive. We will pass on your feedback to Sykes. Property Owner

  • "Fourways is a comfortable and characterful Victorian house."

The area is beautifully unspoilt and quiet with peaceful walks in all directions. The house is well equipped for holiday use with all the necessary utensils provided in the kitchen and large pantry. The bathroom facilities are practical and spotless. Plenty of logs are provided for the stay and instructions for the woodburner are clear, although they are on the last page of the home information document. The upstairs radiators are run off the solid fuel stove which is in the kitchen. Only a half day supply of fuel was left. Keeping this stove at the optimum operating temperature can be a bit hit and miss. In winter the stove heats both the kitchen/ dining room and upstairs, so some attention needs to be paid to the daily fuelling of the appliance by the guests. Overall the property is delightful and very comfortable and clean. The interior design and furnishing enhance the appeal of the property.

Thank you for your appreciation - clearly a connoisseur of cottages! Really pleased you had a good time. As you said to me, it is surprising how much there is to do and see, even in 7 days! You were our first guests to try the Rayburn , so it was great to get your views on how to make that accessible for all. The Rayburn does work with the bountiful supply of logs we provide, but we appreciate that some people might find it difficult to handle the bigger logs. In future, we will ensure that some of them have been downsized! We find that the fixed electrical radiators and the living room log burner are super at keeping things warm, even without the Rayburn. But there is also the additional portable radiator in the pantry - we will make that more visible for the winter months. Property Owner

  • "We have just had a lovely stay in Fourways, with the log burner, cozy rooms and all mod cons it was really comfortable and just the ticket for a great break."

The info was clear & we enjoyed getting about in Wiltshire; Avebury/ Salisbury/ Boscombe Down Aviation Museum was a treat & various National Trust areas, all easy to get to. The house had lots of charm & special touches, would recommend.

  • "A lovely cosy cottage, perfect for a relaxing rural break."

Other than a few passing cars, this was a very quiet and peaceful spot in the Wiltshire countryside. The cottage was warm and comfortable (especially the beds!) and ideal for a few days getting away from it all. Devizes and Avebury are just a short drive away. We enjoyed country walks, especially along the white horse trail. The cottage is old with steep stairs so not suitable for those with mobility issues or young children. The owners were quick to respond when we had an issue and were helpful and understanding. Some biscuits and tea and coffee awaited us on our arrival which was a lovely welcoming gesture. One point to mention- towels ARE provided. Somewhere in our information (on the app I think) it said they weren't included. Thank you for a lovely stay. We would recommend it.

Thank you for your supportive comments and really glad that you enjoyed yourselves and found Fourways comfortable! Thanks for your separate suggestion to put hangers on a rail above the radiator in the scullery - we have done that. Just a point of clarification for anyone reading this prior to booking: It is the case that Towels are no longer supplied. We had updated the details to say this, but we were not sure if you would have seen this at the time of your booking, so we erred on the safe side and put some out! Thanks for reiterating our advice on the stairs - we do include that in our online description. There are very sturdy double handrails up the stairs. Property Owner

  • "A beautiful little old cottage in a good location for exploring the Wiltshire towns and countryside."

Cosy and full of charm and character. Well equipped and comfortable. Would definitely recommend it.

Thank you! And we would definitely recommend you as guests, Fourways was left spotless. Glad that the new furniture and lighting is proving to be comfy, and that the supply of logs helped you feel cosy. Property Owner

  • "Clean cottage, well stocked."

Downstairs furniture was very uncomfortable and dated, kitchen chairs could do with seat pads.lounge needs a rug and better lighting, ceilings would benefit from white paint. Stairs are very steep and could be a hazard for customers with mobility issues. Downstairs bathroom should be listed on the ad.

Thank you for the feedback. Great that you found Fourways clean and well stocked! We agree with your suggestion on lighting in the living room and have sorted that. We have also updated the sofas to a more modern, but comfy style - our aim for traditional cottage was perhaps a little too genuine! The paintwork is all very fresh and in line with the cottage aesthetic we are aiming for, sorry you did not like it. Property Owner

  • "Lovely, quaint, country cottage full of rustic charm."

We were a little hesitant about booking as we couldn’t find any reviews on the property (possibly it is new to the rentals market and that’s why?) but we needn’t have worried- Fourways was very clean and well equipped; the photos don’t do it justice! It oozes character and is in a beautiful part of the world- lovely towns and villages to visit nearby and a 10 minute walk to a fantastic pub (The Seven Stars). The cottage (and the whole area, it seems) is very dog friendly so was perfect for our trip. Although it is surrounded by lanes on all sides of the cottage, the beautiful, little garden feels private and enclosed and was safe and secure for our dog. Would highly recommend.

Thank you for your sense of adventure, Mrs C! You were only our second visitor since going live last week, so it is lovely to have your feedback. Property Owner
