  • "Well-equipped kitchen and pool area!"

Pros The bedrooms were very nice, we were able to sleep 6 adults and 8 children. Enough bathrooms for us all, even with the downstairs shower out of action (this was awaiting a new part). Plenty of seating areas in the kitchen, dining area and drawing room. Kitchen was well equipped with the combination of the AGA, induction hob, double oven, two fridgefreezers, loads of glasses/mugs/crockery/cutlery. Loads of mint, bay leaves, plums and apples are available in the garden. Plenty of Mojitos! (rum not supplied). Swimming pool was heated and only started to get cool towards the evening or cloudy. The pool area had lots of seating and loungers.

  • "The property is magical as a happy and homely family holiday residence."

We were sleeping eight guests over some nights and and ten on other nights. There was still room for three children to share the master bedroom with parents. Bathrooms were sufficient not luxurious but hot water was constant. The large dining room enabled us to seat twelve together. The kitchen was superbly equipped with stools and sofas and became the hub for family chatter. Great Aga warmth and ovens. The drawing room, very gracious and with a grand piano! Don’t try playing Rachmaninov, a few keys are duff but still we had enormous fun with a family sing -song. Games and sunroom was highly popular. The icing on the cake was the heated swimming pool and BBQ. A few little scuffed edges around the house leant to the relaxed atmosphere. WE WOULD RETURN AGAIN AS SOON AS CAN BE ARRANGED. This was one of happiest times the family have enjoyed.

Hi Celia I’m really happy you enjoyed your time at Norton Grange. Apologies about the piano but you know the story behind that. Thanks again John Property Owner

  • "This property is in a good location geographically for eating places, golf courses and places of interest."

It was ideal for us as we had a family reunion to celebrate an 80th. Birthday. The games room was used by the grandchildren for long periods. The kitchen and the dining room were excellent and the suppliers provided were generous. Plenty of room outside and the swimming pool was well used by the family. Bonus of warm, dry weather helped! The only slight irritations were that we could get the TV in the kitchen to work. It kept saying “no channels available” when we switched it on. Fortunately, the TV in the lounge worked on Freeview. Note there’s no Sky in this property so no sport on TV! In the kitchen my wife and I couldn’t figure out how to operate the induction hobs. (The younger generation managed it but didn’t tell us how some old folks ate out once we were on our own). No real hardship. Probably, a good idea to have clear written instructions? (If there were any we didn’t find them.) We thought the departure time of 9am a tad early so we left the day before. Overall, an very enjoyable stay. Recommended !

The house was a spacious, comfortable, setting in which we quickly felt at-home. It would be nice to see the return of pre-pandemic arrival and departure times, but this is a general observation directed at the leisure industry and not the property owner.

  • "We were received grumpily on the day by the housekeeper, who apparently hadn't been informed of our booking."

She acted as if this was our fault and the welcome was pretty cold. We were given a good list of rules to keep while staying and it generally felt as though we were viewed with suspicion rather than welcomed as paying guests. House was roomy and fairly comfortable. Piano is purely there for appearance. It's not tuned and many keys don't work so don't book expecting to be able to enjoy playing the piano as we did. TV in kitchen was working intermittently (maybe a loose connection somewhere?). They don't have sheets to go on the child's cot and they seemed surprised at our request for one when we noticed it's lack. But they did find a single sheet which we were able to use. Nice view of the Malverns from the house and it's nicely tucked away so that's it's quiet and secluded although they seem happy to book house maintenance work for when guests are staying and we had three requests for workmen to access during the 5 days we were there.

When we arrived, a lovely lady named Sally welcomed us at the door. The house was spotless, The rooms are huge, and it just felt like there were so much space for everyone. There was 11 adults and 5 children. The Kitchen is so modern and space for everyone and proved to be the social room for us all. There were fun in the games room for table tennis and table football. The living room is comfy and huge where all the family sat and watched the Rugby The dining room was such a big room with a huge table, where all could sit there and enjoy our meal together. We have already been looking into dates to go back so we could enjoy the large swimming pool in the summer. I honestly have no Negatives to say to be honest. Every one of us was happy with the place and will be looking forward to going back again soon. Thank you

  • "The house is beautiful and a wonderful location overall."

The only problems were had were the kitchen ware was lacking things like baking trays enough for 16 people. The other thing was the difficulty in understanding the instructions around recycling/waste. Outside the bins were very clear, recycling in green, general waste in black. Inside there were also green bin and black bins and the instructions were different; food, baby and dog waste in black, and everything else in green. Nothing at all about recycling, and clearly “everything else” included both non-recyclables as well as recycling. We were extremely careful, but this felt unnecessarily confusing. This may seem like a strange thing to complain about, but there was a big emphasis placed on it when we arrived.

Sally who is the key holder met us on arrival and efficiently provided us with information and offered any help if we had any problems. We mostly used the aga to cook and the facilities provided were substantial in relation to crockery and cooking pots and pans. Our party of 10 had a wonderful time here. House was very clean and had lovely views to the Malverns The children (and adults)in our party enjoyed the table tennis and table football provided. The piano was not tuned which was a shame that a decent piano is not looked after, the pianist in our group was very disappointed. Apparently this was due to cost but we have had pianos tuned numerous times and it’s not that expensive. I think this should be remedied if a piano is shown on the photos. Other than that a great house, lots of space for families to get together and would book again.

The kitchen was well equipped and there was plenty of space to chat while cooking, the dining table seated 12 very easily and the lounge was huge. We found it warm (apart from the games room). We ran out of loo rolls and dishwasher tablets so best to bring some along. There was some confusion about soft plastic recycling and when I checked on the Council website it said hard plastics only. Sally met us as arranged but must have had trouble with previous guests as we found her quite unfriendly. The only problem we had was that in the front double bedroom there was a lot of noise overnight from what we thought was a water tank. I couldn’t find a disability access statement and thought that this may be useful as stairs without handrails are needed to access the property

  • "Norton Grange is a beautiful old home outside Worcester."

We had a group of 16 stay and felt there was plenty of space both in terms of living space and bedrooms. The kitchen is a lot more modern than pictures suggest and as some others have commented, it’s a real hub of the house and well kitted out. The house is surrounded by fields and lovely views and I can imagine the pool is amazing in summer. A few improvements I would like to share: There were 4 dishwasher tablets and 1 toilet roll per bathroom (4 in total). This is nowhere near enough for a 16 person household and if this is what is provided it should be clearly communicated before arrival (although ideally just provide more). There was no hand soap whatsoever - this should be a given ordinarily, never mind in the pandemic situation. The house was very cold when we arrived so a note to future visitors, you will have to turn up all the radiators around the house. And finally, I have to say that our arrival was really not a welcome one. The housekeeper’s attitude was one that I can only describe as cold and rude. She claimed that no one told her what time we were arriving, even though I had texted her and she had responded. She also said she wasn’t told that a dog was arriving, even though it was on our booking. We thought this might have just been a bad day but on the checkout day she arrived at 8.40 (checkout being at 9) and, when we were loading up our cars, questioned if ‘there was a confusion about the check out time’. I really don’t know what happened there but the manner in which we were treated that weekend was really not welcoming and did leave a slightly negative impression of the whole weekend. Overall it’s a really lovely house and we had a great stay but those things mentioned would have made the weekend a bit more seamless and enjoyable.

The temperature showed 22` centigrade on hot days and cool days. No warm water came out of the vents. The drain hole at the bottom of the pool looked blocked with stones.Even the children found it too cold and the 2 year old baby would not go in. Very very disappointing. The house and grounds are superb as are the indoor facilities.

Thank you for your feedback. The pool is heated to a temperature of about 24/25 deg C for when the guests arrive but it isn`t on a thermostat so if the temperature should fall then this needs reporting to the site manager Sally who will put the heating on until it reaches its target temperature. If the pool water exceeds 25/26 deg C it may adversely affect the chemical effectiveness which may have a detrimental effect on the health and safety of the pool. I am sorry that this aspect of your stay spoilt the your enjoyment of the pool and I hope you would still consider coming back to Norton Grange in the future. Please always report anything unsatisfactory no matter how small so that a remedy may be affected as soon as possible. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay otherwise. Property Owner

The cottage is hidden from the road and only has one small plaque on the wall outsideb which you can easily miss if coming from the motorway side, so an extra notice or sometiing would be beneficial, although not essential. The inside is huge, and considering we had 16 people staying, we didn't at any point feel on top of each other. The kitchen has lots of modern equipment in it, but the place also had single glazed windows, so you could definately see where money was and wasn't spent. It was well thought out though, with some really nice garden space too for exploring (including a den which our hen party found a great idea!!) Many of the girls were considering it as a place for future family get togethers due to the space and location. Definately a place I'd visit again if i were planning another party like this.

However, another man came to the property about an hour after I had already arrived... This was not arrange and he was asking me about the deposit. It felt very invasive and I was reluctant to discuss with him as Sykes had not told me anyone was going to visit. I then had a third visitor on the morning we were leaving. This man arrived with his dog, again unannounced. He told me he wanted to check the property to ensure it was cleaned appropriately. This was at 9am.....whilst we were packing up. We had an amazing time although the pool was out of action on day one. Things happen and this was dealt with speedily. The beds were very comfy and the family bedrooms added to the quirky feel of the property. The showers and bathrooms were fine although perhaps a shower screen in the bathroom at the top of the stairs would make it easier for 15 people to shower for a quick exit to the pool/pub etc. The pool table was brilliant for all. The top lawn was perfect for lazy games of cricket (mind the holes though) or games with the dogs. And finally the kitchen...... This was the hub of the house for us and we all said we would love it ourselves. Obviously it had been massively updated and the only thing we didn't find was a potato peeler, as if that mattered! The children changed straight from their pyjama's into their swimsuits almost every day! Just two things to point out to anyone looking to book this property, and these are points to bear in mind, not necessarily negatives. Access to one of the bedrooms is through an adjoining one, therefore when planning your holiday and who is going to sleep with who, you need to be mindful of that! And during the Summer months the Aga isn't in use and the electric oven isn't big enough to cook a meal for sixteen people satisfactorily, however we managed and it in no way spoilt our week.
