CARLOW, COUNTY CARLOW
Kilkenny 23 miles; New Ross 34 miles; Dublin 56.4 miles.
The town of Carlow is a fantastic base in the south east of Ireland and provides easy access to a wide variety of local attractions. There are a number of interesting buildings scattered throughout the town with a choice of restaurants and pubs and the River Barrow runs through the centre. Within Carlow itself is the castle, an imposing ruin of which only one wall remains and a short distance outside is Brownshill Dolmen, a portal tomb, and Duckett’s Grove, a 19th century great house which is now also ruined. There are a number of walking trails in County Carlow which will show the landscape to its full potential and there are a number of activities available in the surrounding areas. The Wicklow Mountains National Park offers visitors a great day out; covering part of a mountain range that extends over most of County Wicklow, there is an abundance of walking on offer, and the higher you progress, the more peaceful and isolated your surroundings become. A little further is the thriving city of Dublin; with the Guinness Storehouse, Gravity Bar and Kilimainham Gaol to enjoy, you are sure to find something to please everybody. A great location, with fantastic touring opportunities.
