  • "We had a great stay over the new year with plenty of walking, pubs, saunas and home cooked dinners."

John was a lovely host, very welcoming and the house has so much to recommend itself. The open plan living space is wonderful and we loved having a fire. On the down side, it is a shame the hedge is so tall on the patio we were denied any of the stunning view of the surrounding countryside. There is a really good selection of top quality kitchen utensils (excellent knives) serving dishes, good pans and a lovely dining service so meals were always lovely to have on the large table.  The bedrooms are all a generous size and the quality of the beds and bedding is top notch (The best night's sleep I've had in ages). However, the floor "click clack" laminate flooring that has shrunk or been poorly fitted with gaps everywhere. The Velux windows in the master bedroom were also filthy. I would also say the bathrooms need a bit of attention - some form of heat in them would be good...It is clear there are some red flags that the house itself might not be so regularly maintained. The info pack was useful with lots of tips which we followed and there are a tonne of DVDs and some games for wet days. I would suggest a couple of maps of the area would have been so helpful for local walks - an idea for future stays. Really good to note there is a great washing machine and dryer which was much needed after a couple of very wet walks! [ IMPORTANT - Can this part just be shared with the owner and not posted publicly ] Alas upon our stay there was no underfloor heating working in the bedrooms or bathrooms so we had a couple of cold December nights although John did rescue us with portable oil heaters on day 2. The bathrooms were freezing (no heating at all) and we had only tepid warm water throughout, so this was the least enjoyable part of the stay - especially after long winter walks (Thank goodness for the Sauna which we used 3 times!)  John stayed in touch to see how the heating was behaving which was appreciated - and he did what he could to solve the issues, however, had we been a family with children I think it would have been a real issue. I hope this honest review really helps him identify any snags so he can make the necessary improvements to make it as delightful a holiday cottage as it has the potential to be.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay at The Lodge, John was a lovely host."

Close enough to offer help and ideas of where to go if needed, but far enough away to allow us privacy and solitude. His hospitality was very much appreciated, a welcome gift upon arrival, an apple pie on a rainy, although perfect day, and a tour of his home. Having said that, there are a couple of things that I must point out. The property NEEDS a deep clean, but I expect that will be done when it is a little quieter. I cannot fault the cleanliness of the kitchen, the bathrooms in general (the shower doors for example need a good scrub) or the general living area. The towels are extra fluffy and I loved the duvet. The laminate in the bedrooms needs a little work, but that's a small price to pay for the fabulous underfloor heating. We didn't get to sample the sauna, we were so busy, but we know it's there because John showed my husband how to use it. If you asked me, would we stay here again? 100% yes. Would I recommend it to family and friends? 100% yes.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Raheengraney Lodge."

The property is in gentle, tranquil and beautiful countryside, between the Wicklow and Blackstairs Mountains. It was generously furnished and equipped, and our bed was extremely comfortable. The host was pleasant and helpful, sorting out an issue with the TV and lending us a hairdryer for the duration of our stay. The renovation of the cowshed has been skilfully done, and the property is very spacious. We were a couple, but the property could readily accommodate six people. It is approaching the point where it needs some further renovation in places, but that is something for the property owner rather than anything that affects the visitor.

. They are not up to date , The property is run down and is in disrepair, Rotting window frames , flaking paint, filthy windows, the wooden flooring in the bedrooms must have been lifted and relaid badly with gaps all over the floor .. showers could do with an update and also there is no sauna which is advertised.Overall the whole property has been neglected and looks like it needs to be refurbished inside and outside, and in need of a good cleaning.

  • "Hi, Apologies for the late feedback!"

Our stay at Raheengraney was absolutely wonderful. There was some worry over being far out of Dublin, however we were wrong to worry. The house was perfect. Warm, clean, plenty of space and had a cosy atmosphere - even on the rainy days. The kitchen was well stocked, so we had lots of tasty meals. You kindly sorted out the heating and after you had done that, it was lovely. The house was actually in a great location and we went up to Dublin twice, visited the villages around, walked around Glendaloch and went to a place which offered a whole host of active outdoor family activities - archery, boating, orienteering etc. A brilliant stay and I would definitely return. If anyone is reading this thinking of going, you must!

We were able to explore much of County Wicklow and used the train at Gorey to enjoy a day in Dublin. It was nice to know that we could return to our quiet, rural base to relax in the evening. There is an excellent bistro in Clonegal and Bunclody is nearby to get essential supplies. One way and another, we had a bit of an eventful week but our host John was always on hand to help us. Very highly recommended.

  • "The owners were nice, so we did not say anything to them when we were there."

In the middle bedroom there was mould on the wall and a lot inside the wardrobe. I have pictures! A lot of Cobwebs and dead flies on the mantle shelve. The taps in the bathroom had no hot or cold markers just a hole filled with water. There are good reviews in the visitors book, but I was not happy with the things I have stated.

We are upset that the family did not raise their concerns with us during their stay as we would have rectified immediately. Mould was a result of a flood when a bath was left to overrun. All repairs have been carried and the Lodge is back up to our usual high standards. Property Owner

  • "The Lodge at Raheengraney House surpassed our expectations for our holiday in every way."

A much needed week of tranquility was what we were looking for following the mayhem of Christmas and New Year, and we felt fully refreshed after the first few days due to the lodge being so comfortable, quiet and cosy despite its large size. The owners were available immediately for any queries we had in advance of our trip and during our stay, no ask was too big. The beds were so comfortable and definitely aided us in recharging our batteries! The sitting-room was very relaxing and we loved having the stove on which was very easy to use and it being January and a bit chilly outdoors, the under-floor heating was a lovely additional luxury. The large kitchen was also fantastic and fully stocked with everything you would need to make meals, we love to cook dinners with local fresh produce and the open-plan kitchen made meal time a really enjoyable daily event. We also made good use of the onsite sauna which was yet another contributory factor in reinvigorating ourselves! All amenities you could need are a short drive from the lodge, and there is an authentic old-style Irish pub called Egan's which was only a short 15 minute walk away which also has a shop with some basic supplies. Basically our stay at The Lodge at Raheengraney House was one of the best breaks we've had in over 15 years of holidays at home and abroad, we had privacy, peace and quiet, comfort, full relaxation and incredibly friendly and helpful owners if we needed anything. We are already looking forward to our next stay.

They provided all the basic essentials, (tea/coffee/milk/bread/butter etc) along with sufficient logs and coal for the stove to keep the lodge cosy throughout the week. There was limited internet and phone signal during our stay which provided us with a real break and time to enjoy the numerous games, walks, books, sauna and scenery available. Would definitively go back again.
