The historic village of Ballinamuck is situated in the north of County Longford, close to the borders of Leitrim and Cavan. Literally translated to ‘mouth of the ford of the pig’, Ballinamuck is a wonderful area to discover the mass of farmland, lakes, low lying hills and pristine boglands of North Longford. Ballinamuck was once the site of the Battle of Ballinamuck and there is a local heritage centre which houses an interesting exhibition of the events of the battle. The centre also offers guidance on local walks, which retrace the steps of those who fought during the battle. Fishing, cycling and walking are very popular in this region, with endless miles of unspoilt countryside to discover and explore. The local pub is an old thatch pub with another large pub where you can have a nice evening meal also. The village has a large play area for kids and a basketball court also.
