Very impressed with the place everything you need for your stay is there, and the location although remote is easy to find once you get your bearings
"Ray was helpful as usual."
We've stayed in this cottage before and it is a lovely, relaxing place.
"We weren't expecting a lot due to the price we paid but we were so upset with the property that we left ahead of schedule."
The heating is controlled from the main house and due to the owner only being there every now and again, the radiators were only on one of the nights. We had a tiny plug in heater, which gave us barely any warmth. There was damp everywhere. The property and the bedding smelt heavily of damp. Slugs had started to come in. There was very little equipment in the kitchen with even less counter top space and only one plug. With several well out of date packs of tea and coffee in the cupboards.
"The Annexe Dereen Lodge was exactly what we wanted for our week's holiday."
It was a very well equipped, spotlessly clean and very spacious cottage. It was in a lovely peaceful, idyllic area and only a couple of miles into the town, we only had cows and sheep for neighbours! You would definitely need a car, but then most places do in Ireland and it would be ideal for any couples looking for a tranquil getaway. Was only a short distance from the N4 on lovely country roads so everywhere was accessible. It was close to Lough Rynn Castle so ideal for wedding guests looking for accommodation and the price was a bonus too!
"Unfortunately I had to sleep in my car the first night as the location given in the Sykes app wasn't even close, I was late getting in as the ferry was delayed and didn't want to disturb the owner as it was late and he was recovering from a broken hip."
I do think it is basics to have the location correct but unfortunately it was miles away, I called the owner at 9am the morning after and he guided me in.
"Provide a detailed map with instructions to guests after they book in."
"Good functional accommodation."
Useful central location for tourist activities. Would stay there again.
"The place could do with a woman’s touch A it out of the way"
"Most enjoyable holiday - the Annexe is remote, beautifully peaceful and quiet - good for turning off just about everything - local villages Dromod and Roosky perfect for boat (pleasure craft type) watching in the harbour and by the bridge respectively."
Carrick on Shannon (the free parking on the N4 through road is very close to main shopping street) and Aldi on the N4 (turn left at the prior roundabout) on the way back is close enough if purchasing anything frozen. And yes, there is a freezer. Two National Trust properties within easy reach just over the border in Northern Ireland. Castle Coole and Enniskillen on one day and another full day for Florence Court if the weather is good with guided tour, walled garden and lovely walks. Lough Rinn (various spellings) Estate is very close and offers gentle walks and a lovely walled garden. We had (sort of) planned to do more and go further afield during our 2 week stay but found the holiday so relaxing that staying local, reading the odd book or three and chatting to people in the nearby villages made clocking up the miles less relevant. Yes, we would go back again....
"The Annexe is beautifully situated on a farm in the middle of the Leitrim countryside."
Very quiet place, you only hear the birds singing!
"Ray is lovely and the setting is idyllic."
My only problem was not being able to get the WiFi to work, but I had mobile data, so it was no big deal. The first half of our two-week holiday in Ireland was spent here and it was a great jumping off place to see so much in the north of Ireland and Northern Ireland. And our second half of our holiday is also in a Sykes Cottage! I would definitely recommend Dereen Annexe in particular and Sykes Cottages in general.
"We had a delightful stay."
Highly recommended. Essentially a farm-stay with all the sheep surrounding the house. Unusually cool May weather did not allow use of the patio. Very quiet and secluded countryside location.
"Great area to use as a base, most attractions I."
E Newgrange mostly 2 hr drive.
"Clean and comfortable and well equiped."
The friendly little robin that greeted us was a kick! Plenty to see and do within a reasonable driving distance.
"We have just come home after a week in The Annex at Dereen."
We had a great time. the cottage had everything we needed .the owner Eamon was very nice .brought us delicious honey for breakfast. the weather was kind to us .We will be back again for sure. Joe and Connie Beirne.
