  • "Seaview cottage is in an excellent location for walking, cycling and touring South Clare."

    It has excellent facilities but is in need of some tlc!! Upstairs room was great except bed was rickety and headboard falling apart Downstairs, the ensuite room was comfortable but furniture was so musty we could not unpack and lived out of our suitcase!! Downstairs double room bed was uncomfortable and squeaky. We had to light woodstove as there were no instructions for storage heaters(couldn't get them working)Stove also needs attention Considering present Covid I don't think house was adequately cleaned. Light switches and sockets were visibly dirty.We left the house considerably cleaner than we found it.We appreciated the little touches like tea and coffee and hand-wash etc but for the price we paid our expectations were not met.

  • "Lovely house in a great location."

    As per the photos, the open plan kitchen / sitting room is small but has a lovely ambiance with the centre fireplace and very high ceilings...we loved it. The master bedroom is huge and the other bedrooms a good size. Also 3 toilets is good also. Just one thing to point out is that there is no WIFI, and coverage on your phone is patchy. Mary was great host. It was a great holiday with a choice of beaches within 10 min drive or 15/20 if on your bike!!!

  • "We loved the location of the cottage and the facilities provided."

    However, we felt that the cottage could have done with a bit of tlc. The furnishings were adequate although perhaps a little bit tired and rickety, particularly the beds, with silly things like a simple handle missing off a wardrobe. The cooker hob actually moved within the work surface and the microwave was propped on a piece of wood at one corner as a leg was missing. When stripping the beds we found that one of the single quilts was badly stained. Towels, whilst okay, were small and not very absorbent. There were nice touches though with dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid provided as well as liquid hand soap in all bathrooms and the kitchen.

  • "I loved the house and the location."

    It is wild and windswept, just how I like it. As a regular visitor to this area of West Clare I felt the house was in the perfection location. It is ten minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Kilkee and at the same time gives you plenty of solitude and space to get lost in nature and the wonderful scenery of the Loop Head peninsula. However, despite some of the lovely little welcoming touches on our arrival, overall I was left feeling very disappointed. Personally, I am glad to get away from civilization and leave technology behind when visiting West Clare. But as a parent to young children who need to be constantly entertained and distracted they were very disappointed that there was no DVD player in the house to watch movies at night or during the daytime when it got too squally outside to do much else. TV is the last thing on my own mind when I get to the seaside but my only issue here is that on the page for Sea View Cottage it claims to have a DVD player in the house, but this proved not to be the case. Secondly, the lighting for the living area and kitchen tripped the fuse-box whenever turned on. This was hugely frustrating as only two of the dozen or so ceiling bulbs actually worked to begin with. Lighting is pretty basic and the lack of it was an issue for me and my kids during our stay. It just added to my frustration. The fact that the washing machine was temperamental and was difficult to get working also had me heading for an Atlantic dip to cool my flaring temper. If more effort was taken with the basics this would be a real dreamy spot for a holiday. Sadly I arrived home a day early feeling slightly cheated.

  • "We had a fantastic holiday at Sea View Cottage, we didn't want to leave!"

    ! The house was spotless and has everything you would need, and more. The shower water pressure is great (which I always feel is important!). There is plenty room in the house / bedrooms. It has great character with a beautiful stone fireplace in the centre of the living area. The surrounding views are idyllic, particularly out to the sea, it's lovely to sit outside in the garden and just take it all in. It's setting is one of peace and relaxation. It's just a short drive to the beaches in Carrigaholt and Kilkee, with lots of nice drives and other towns not too far away. This house is a great base for exploring Clare, we'll definitely be back!

  • "We had a super holiday at Sea Vew Cottage."

    The house was clean and spacious enough for our needs (Mum, Dad and 5 kids) with a decent sized garden. There are nice glimpses of the sea from the kitchen window. Phone coverage isn't great in the house but you can get it in the upstairs bedroom. The area is stunning! Make sure to travel to Loop Head (Kilbaha cafe and craft gallery is a lovely place); The coast road from the house to Kilkee (about ten minutes) must be one of the best drives in the country. Kilkee is a very pleasant town, just lively enough. We really enjoyed swimming in the Pollock Holes (natural swimming pools) in the 'West End' of the town. The Pantry bakery and deli has lovely home backing and The Diamond Rocks cafe is another great spot.

  • "I had a lovey time in Seaview Cottage."

    There was a cosy fire on the stove to welcome me and Mary and Éamon went out of their way to ensure my stay was a pleasant one. The cottage was very comfortable and the scenery breathtaking. I would highly recommend Seaview cottage as an ideal base from which to explore the stunning Loop Head Peninsula. The sights are breathtaking and there are some top class restaurants and amenities nearby. Be sure to vist the award winning Long Dock restaurant in Carrigaholt and the spectacular brides of Ross and Loop Head Lighthouse. It was a wonderful holiday and ill definately be back.

  • "The location of the house was very good."

    It was a short walk down to the cliffs and a 10 minute drive into the bustling town of Kilkee where there was a nice beach and plenty of restaurants and bars. The house itself was very basic and we felt needed a good clean and a bit of TLC. It was however a reasonable price and therefore still good value for money.

  • "Dear Sykes."

    My sister, myself and my dog had a lovely holiday in Carrigaholt. However, we didn't actually stay in Sea View Cottage for the following reason. When we arrived (late afternoon on 16th) we discovered that there was no water in the cottage. I contacted the cottage owner Mary (who was on holiday herself) to ask if there was a water valve to turn the water on. Mary was shocked to hear that there was no water in the cottage and immediately phoned round her friends and neighbours to arrange for a plumber and a neighbour to call with us. Mary phoned me back and very kindly offered me the use of another property. Mary's neighbour told me that the Council had been working on the water pipes in the area and had damaged a water pipe - which is why there was no water in the area! It was not a problem specific to Sea View Cottage. Anyway, my group were extremely happy with the alternative cottage - it was clean, spacious, warm and comfortable and had all the equipment that we required for our stay. It was very conveniently located for our daily sightseeing around Co. Clare and was within a short walking distance of Carrigaholt and the stony/sandy beach. Mary contacted me later to find out if we were happy to stay there and of course we were. We were so pleased and delighted with our accommodation. Mary was extremely helpful, considerate and thoughtful and despite being 'out of the country' and on holiday herself, she got us sorted out very quickly from when I first contacted her. Excellent!

CARRIGAHOLT, COUNTY CLARE

The small, picturesque fishing village of Carrigaholt is located at the mouth of the Moyarta river, which flows into the River Shannon estuary, in County Clare. The village features a ruined castle and offers a shop and a handful of pubs, a restaurant and a takeaway. There is also a beach, which is ideal for swimming, along with sea fishing opportunities and boat trips for dolphin watching. A short drive takes you to the charming seaside town of Kilkee, which overlooks a mile-long horseshoe bay, with a safe and sandy Blue Flag beach, and is reputed to be the safest bathing place in Ireland.
