Scenery was amazing, lots to do, totally surprised by whole experience. We have been around the Atlantic Way quite a bit this was the best. Long drive for us to get there totally worth it. Accommodation was excellent. Quite area. The roads for walking were great, quite and very scenic. The town was lively good facilities great food. Mrs Sheehan the owner was very helpful. Already planning next trip back.

  • "The Sykes support desk were most helpful and patient when we had issues finalizing this booking online, much appreciated."

The cottage and its rather remote location with beautiful sights was just what we needed to wind down. The owner as well as the neighbours and villagers were most friendly and helpful, proferring suggestions for walks and things to visit. I would definitely love to revisit.

  • "Directions to Allihes Holiday Cottages were inaccurate for the at least 2 miles as those emailed by you were for Beara Holiday Cottages."

These properties are at different sides of Allihies Village.

  • "A bit isolated but that was what I wanted."

But really enjoyed the challenge. A car is a must and the roads are a real exciting test to your driving abilities. Not for the faint hearted. So overall I must say it was a different holiday from what I am used to but enjoyed it. Regards Desi Lennox

About the location

Castletown Bearhaven 7.5 miles.

The village of Allihies in County Cork, on the Western tip of the wild and rugged Beara peninsula, lies in a region of unspoiled natural beauty. Allihies overlooks beautiful Ballydonegan Bay, with its magnificent quartz strand, a direct result of the mining era and somewhere you can take in some history at Allihies Copper mine museum. Each summer a festival is held in August (around the 15th), with horse racing, novelty events, and dancing in the Community Hall. The village lies on The Ring of Beara, a tourist trail of about 195 kilometres (121 miles) circumnavigating the peninsula. Attractions nearby include Dursey Island, which is linked to the mainland by a Cable Car and is the only such ride in Europe to cross over water. The island is also a recognised Bird Sanctuary, with numerous species, rare and otherwise, seen regularly. There are also many coastal and countryside walks and quaint villages to enjoy. Other favorites for visitors to Allihies include Dunboy Castle, Derrynane House and Puxley mansion. A great location for exploring West Cork.
