The views from the farmhouse are incredible. It’s on the road from Durrus and 10-15 drive to Bantry, so you have everything you need on your doorstep. The log burner was well stocked and a treat and the kitchen has everything you need. Three well sized rooms it comfortably fits four people. WiFi was great too, as we had iPad dependant kids! We would love to come back!

  • "Overall this property is as described."

It’s a great base for discovering West Cork and beyond with many popular destinations and amenities within a short driving distance. The house has everything you need so no need to pack the kitchen sink with you. Double bed is on wheels and of all the beds, the least comfortable. The upper bunk bed is not suitable for infants. TV only has basic channels and a smart TV would be a winner so guests can log into their own Netflix/Disney etc. Beware, bathroom doors can lock, needing a screw driver to open them from the outside (US locks) finally, you will get hit with the electricity bill on Saturday morning. Go easy on the dryer usage and the emersion switch.

  • "A wonderful farmhouse in a beautiful setting."

Everything was very straight forward - booking, collecting the keys, contacting the owner. The house had everything we needed, very well equipped and clean. The only negative was the beds - we had our little one in his cot next to the main bed - every slight movement and I mean slight, the bed frame would creak so loudly it would stir him everytime. Plus the mattress wasn't very comfy either - you ended up rolling into the middle. The bedding itself was so cosy, just a shame about the mattress / bedframe.

Nellies Farmhouse is very clean, spacious, well furnished and thoughtfully equipped with everything you need. Kitchen equipment was in immaculate condition which is always a bonus. The location is in a beautiful area with very little sound to be heard other than the birds! The cottage owner, Anna, was very warm and welcoming and lives fairly close by. We couldn't fault this accommodation and enjoyed returning to it at the end of the day. The area is stunningly beautiful and as cyclists we were able to enjoy it to the full. Our trip was perfect in every way - we even had good weather! Thank you Anna.

  • "Nellies cottage has been an amazing place to stay."

Everything has been just marvelous. From walking the lanes until 11:30pm in wonderful twilight to the decor and finish of the house. The owner has to be complemented on the quality of the house, decor and finish. Plus all of the little touches. WIFI reception was great. Anna was a true host and was lovely to work with. Her directions were spot on. Ask her for instructions on how to use the oven. Apart from a little bit of traffic, the only sound you could here was sheep and cows. The patio furniture was simply a brilliant idea combined with super weather we used it for nearly every meal. While here, you must see Bantry the town (with a great market on Fridays) and Bantry House gardens. You must see the following: “Garnish” island and grounds. 10 out of 10. Drombeg Stone Circles. 4 out of 10. The Long Strand at Owenahincha 8 out of 10. For a remote walk down a wonderful beach. Inchydoney Beach 10 out of 10. Drive to Barley Beach 8-10. Clonakilty Town 9 out of 10. Cute town great little spot. Castlefreke and woodland area 6 of 10. Sheep’s Head Walk and turning point (Scenic drive 9 out of 10). Excellent evening’s walk at the end of the drive. Also try the Ewe Experience in Glengarrif. 10 out of 10. Very cool little spot. While in Glengarrif you also should visit the Woods Nature Reserve, climb up to the scenic view and also walk the meadow trail. 8 out of 10. A really nice walking trail with lovely views. Visit Kenmare for a lovely afternoon filled with lovely shops and eateries. We didn’t have enough time to visit Killarney National Park on this visit another time.

  • "Nellie's Farmhouse is very comfortable with everything provided you could need."

It's warm and cosy with central heating and a log fire if you need it. Having 2 showers and 2 toilets was a lovely extra with 3 of us there for a week. Quiet and peaceful with no neighbours - just sheep and cows. It's a good centre for visiting the south west Atlantic coast and easy to get to from London Stansted, flying to Cork Airport and hiring a car. Anna is nearby to meet and greet and answer any questions and is a great character with her stories. We had a great holiday.

  • "We loved talking to the housekeeper, Anna, who told us that Nellies Farmhouse used to be her family home but has since been extensively modernised."

We found Anna to be very helpful - she visited soon after we had arrived to tell us how the heating etc worked. Once one gets used to the howling gales and pouring rain that afflict the area from time to time, we found the cottage to be very comfortable and very liveable in. However, when the sun comes out, the area is beautiful and there are lovely views from the cottage of the surrounding hills and the nearby bay. (We were staying in April not usually known for its heatwaves!!) We would definitely stay there again if re-visiting the area.

About the location

DURRUS, COUNTY CORK

Bantry 10 miles; Glengariff 17 miles; Skibereen 16 miles.

Durrus is a village located at the head of Dunmanus Bay on what is called the Friendly Cove, on one of the most unspoilt coasts in Ireland, in West Cork, six miles from Bantry in County Cork. The village is the gateway to the Sheep's Head and Mizen Head peninsulas, a haven for walkers, hikers and cyclists, showcasing some of the most beautiful and spectacular scenery that Ireland has to offer. Durrus has recently been announced as a key staging post on the new Wild Atlantic Way driving route which will help tourists to explore the Irish coastline from the Inishowen peninsula in Donegal to Kinsale in County Cork. There are a number of public gardens established in the area, including Cois Abhann and Kilvarock. Durrus also benefits from a good selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes offering excellent food and traditional music through the year. Bantry is just a 20 minute drive away, and is a town of sweeping sea views and varied colourful buildings. It is home to a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants ideal for dining out or for experiencing local Irish music and culture. Bantry House is well worth a visit, sitting in an elevated position above the town and being home to a rich collection of tapestries, furniture and art, while there are also beautiful gardens to explore, which have been restored and are open to the public.
