  • "Amazing location, could not recommend it more."

Great scenery , great for a walking holiday, or a chill out week. Unfortunately, the level of cleanliness needs to be looked at. All of the kitchen cutlery and cooking equipment was not clean, oven did not work, the thermostat is not working, it won't heat up ! Anything we used, we had to clean first, never had to do that before when renting a holiday home. Cob webs in kitchen windows, bathroom upstairs , fan over shower not cleaned in a long time. We had to leave early due to a family issue, but had we stayed, we would have to spend time cleaning. A dishwasher would help with most of these issues.

  • "While Nana's House is pretty remote the location is perfect for those looking for great scenery and a measure of tranquillity."

Twelve minutes drive gets you into Castletownbere where there are pubs and restaurants aplenty. We were a party of five adults and our electricity usage only came to fifteen euros. Our hosts Pat and Teresa live in the adjoining house and were a great source of information and advice about where to go. They are very welcoming and friendly and always willing to stand and chat. I would have no hesitation in returning for another stay and I can recommend this house.

  • "Directions were a bit hard to follow."

I think the mileages shown should be reversed. The first part is the shortest - I don't have the paper n front of me now. We were only two and so only one car. I think parking more than one car - with the owner's families vehicles would make parking more caars difficult.

  • "Nana's House was a beautiful cottage in a stunning location Often you read about somewhere having a view of the lake /river /mountains and then it is only from the roof with telescope!"

NOT so in this case , the kitchen/dining room has two windows overlooking the inlet between the Beara and Kerry, absolutely stunning views. The cottage was quiet and quite isolated but only 10 minutes walk from the shore . The wonderful townland of Allihies is only 10-15 minutes away by car and is worthy of any praise it gets Mr Murphy was kind and welcoming and great to talk to if you needed information. The cottage was very clean , cosy and a great place to stay for exploring the Ring of Beara I would recommend this property to anyone wanting the rael taste of Co Cork and finally, I have to say that Sykes Cottages are a great organisation as everything was spot on and smoothly planned and executed. I will use them again!

Surrounding scenery and landscape is dramatic, views from the property great. Only thing was the wifi which was off a lot of the time. The family were very welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend.

The Murphy's were the best, and Glen was quite funny and friendly. We can't wait to get back to Beara and rent one of the Murphy's places again for next summer. Great memories here. Truly a great time.

About the location

ALLIHIES, COUNTY CORK

Castletown Bearhaven 7.5 miles.

The village of Allihies in County Cork, on the Western tip of the wild and rugged Beara peninsula, lies in a region of unspoiled natural beauty. Allihies overlooks beautiful Ballydonegan Bay, with its magnificent quartz strand, a direct result of the mining era and somewhere you can take in some history at Allihies Copper mine museum. Each summer a festival is held in August (around the 15th), with horse racing, novelty events, and dancing in the Community Hall. The village lies on The Ring of Beara, a tourist trail of about 195 kilometres (121 miles) circumnavigating the peninsula. Attractions nearby include Dursey Island, which is linked to the mainland by a Cable Car and is the only such ride in Europe to cross over water. The island is also a recognised Bird Sanctuary, with numerous species, rare and otherwise, seen regularly. There are also many coastal and countryside walks and quaint villages to enjoy. Other favorites for visitors to Allihies include Dunboy Castle, Derrynane House and Puxley mansion. A great location for exploring West Cork.
