About the location

Killarney 38 miles.

The lively coastal town of Cahersiveen, birthplace of Daniel O'Connell, is ideally situated aside the River Fertha, at the foot of the Beentee Mountain, in beautiful County Kerry. Renowned in the 1800s for the salting of Atlantic fish, today the town retains strong links with the ocean, boasting an excellent harbour and a superb marina offering sailing, trout and salmon fishing and deep-sea angling opportunities. Cahersiveen provides an eclectic mix of traditional pubs and modern venues, together with a host of cafés (with free WIFI) restaurants and interesting craft and antique shops, whilst monthly street fairs present visitors with an ideal opportunity to peruse the colourful stalls of curiosities and local produce. Cahersiveen is the principle town of the Kerry International Dark Sky Reserve making it a wonderful base for astronomers. Explore the nearby hidden coves, walk the Kerry Way, visit two stone forts, discover the fascinating archaeological remains at nearby Waterville, or take a short drive or ferry crossing to the lovely Valentia Island. Skellig Michael is also well worth a visit, it is one of two impressive sea crags set in the Atlantic Ocean and was also used as the setting for scenes in the Star Wars film, The Force Awakens. With plenty to see and do, you'll want to return to this fabulous location time and time again.
