  • "With a few more folk like Carmel & Kevin around - and places like An Lochta Fada - the world would be a far better place in which to live!"

My two dogs & I stayed for two weeks and felt at home from the moment we stepped inside this spotless, stunning cottage and its beautiful, nurtured grounds. Every possible facility was on hand and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts to make us feel welcome, having worked tirelessly to renovate the property throughout 7yrs. It oozes deeply-rustic, original charm yet lacks nothing whatsoever in the way of modern-day comfort. We were absolutely thrilled with our relaxing break, and memories of those roaring fires of an evening still beckon with a lingering temptation to return soonest ...

  • "Great host."

Couldnt do enough for us. Cottage was brilliant and cosy. Loved the rural location. Felt like you were getting away from everything. Great holiday in a great location

  • "The house was absolutely wonderful for a quiet, relaxed holiday."

It is in a beautiful area, close to the Gougane Barra Forest Park where we spent a lot of time walking. The local village has very little to offer, one shop but due to covid no pub so if your looking for a pint in a pub you have to drive further afield. The house itself was well equipped and had all the modern comforts presented in a cosy, relaxed style. Our weather for the week was not great but we enjoyed our evenings in front of the fire. The hosts were very friendly without being intrusive. I would definitely return if staying in the area again. One recommendation I would make, coat hooks needed in the utility room to hang our wet coats. There were a lot of wet coat days!!!

  • "Mrs Crowley is a really great cottage owner."

Her friendly, helpful and welcomed kind was overall, what we expected. The Cottage is gorgouse. A perfect, quiet place with a large garden, cats and dogs. Well, the animales belongs to the cottage owners, but we had some visits from one or two cute cats. It's not easy, to find the entrance to the property. So if you left behind Ballingeary in direction Bantry, slow down a bit after the bridge and the old castlelike house. The entrance is directly in the next turn. But if you call Mrs Crowley short before your arrival, she will wait for you at the street. Back to the cottage. If you need your smartphone and can't life one hour without Instagram, Facebook, etc. this won't be the right place. Even with a mobile it's hard to find a signal. But if you like the nature and love some warm evenings infront of a oven, you are perfectly right here. The next, larg supermarket (Lidl) is in Bantry, roundabout 27km away and the next walking / hiking areas are directly nearby. Even the street, directly beneath the property, can't disturb your sleep. Well, and you have 3 bedrooms to choose, if the one on the street is not yours. We guess, that we will come back one day! Thank you for all and hopefully many bookings. Best regards from Germany,

  • "Title : wedding prep Subject: stayed here for 3 days in the build up to my wedding in the Gougane Barra church."

Thee most idyllic setting you will ever see in your life. It was the ideal retreat from The stresses. The cottage is approx a KM from the chapel, it is set in the mountains along a back rd from Ballingeary. Upon arrival the lady of the house asked if we would like a meal, true Irish lady. Unfortunately we had all ate. Upon arrival the cottage is impressive to the modern/ old romantic. Has everything you will need, big bath, all the kitchen utensils you will need to make a 3 course meal as we did. Then we retired to the comfort of our wood burning stove in the living area to listen to music around the fire. Found the house immaculately clean. For those that want to get away from the world. Ideal! Met the owners a few times over our stay and it was a laugh the whole time, they couldn’t do enough for us. Everyone of the six of us throughly enjoyed our stay. We found the accommodation immaculate. The host the utmost welcoming and they made my wedding that extra special. For that, thank you wholeheartedly. Aaron O’ Neill. We will all be back to stay as soon as possible.

Great location out in the middle of nowhere. The house is wonderfully refurbished with the original walls creating a real cosy setting. Would definitely recommend here for a quite get away. Thanks to Carmen our host for being so nice and welcoming.

  • "The owners were extremely helpful, welcoming, and friendly."

There was plenty of information about what you could do and see in the area which would be very useful if you were new to the area. The cottage itself was perfect. Coming back to it after a day out was just like coming home; warm, cosy, all the necessary mod cons and much better than a hotel or B&B because you could just 'flop' after a really nice hot shower! The perfect 'get away from it all' place to be. The information given about the cottage was spot on and there were no hidden surprises. Well done Sykes, I will definitely use you again.
