  • "We had a fantastic stay at The Schooner, such a beautiful spacious house."

The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. It was warm, cosy and very clean. We enjoyed lovely walks in the area and the walk to Goleen village along the path is lovely. We wouldn’t hesitate to return and highly recommend it as a fantastic base for a West Cork break. Thank you very much.

dishwasher door was faulty so couldn’t use it. Needs more lighting in kitchen. Maintenance man Dan very helpful, dishwasher + shower in bathroom being fixed after we departed on 30th sept 2023. Excellent location

Huge apologies for the shower - we have had it replaced over the Summer and for some reason the unit has been very problematic. The shower is now in perfect working order. Glad you enjoyed the location. Property Owner

  • "The Schooner is perfect for small travel groups or huger families."

Upstairs are two double bedrooms and one bathroom including a bathtub and shower, and on the 1st Level are two further rooms with 2 and 1 Beds and another bathroom with shower. There is far enough space to sit together or separate for a while. Outside on the terrasse, you can not only listen to the nearby Atlantic, but you can also have a great view of the clear night sky. It's a fantastic place to find peace and to start the discovery of southern Ireland. Bantry ~ 45 min Killarney ~ 2 h Ring of Beara ~ 1,5 h Cork ~ 1 - 1,5h

Plenty of furniture and kitchenware for a family of six with two small toddlers. Well supplied with essentials. Enough rooms for anyone to have quiet times. Lovely views from the cottage veranda. Easy access into the village via a short walk, which avoided roads. Would definitely stay there again and recommend this place.

  • "A fabulous house for a stay in West Cork."

Really comfortable with great space and privacy. The kids loved the big field in front of the house to run around. Great Kitchen and bathrooms clean and new. The planting around the house could be cut back a little as it blocks some of the view from the wonderful deck. We cannot wait to visit again.

Thanks so much for the feedback and delighted you enjoyed your stay. The gardener will be going in next week to sort out the brambles. Property Owner

  • "We were very happy with this property and would definitely stay again, the location, the comfort, the peace and quiet and the facilities made for a lovely holiday."

The house is quirky being on 3 levels but I like the way it has all mod cons and still retains the cottage feel. The key box was easy to access but i miss the personal touch of meeting the owner or even getting a call to make sure everything was ok. Access is a bit tight and parking is tricky if you have more than one car. I would strongly recommend giving the grounds some attention the grass was cut but having nettles and brambles encroaching on the shrubs and ivy on the paths and on the decking really takes from the over all experience and your beautiful view is also being blocked to some extent by the overgrowth also the terracotta pots are very neglected. Inside if you dont like windows with no blinds or curtains please be aware that there are at least 7 in this house.Lastly just for added safety I think there should be handles to hold onto in the showers. thanks for a great week looking forward to staying again and I hope you will take my recommendations on board.

Thank you for letting us know you enjoyed your day. Appreciate the comments about the brambles and pots. The gardener is going in next week to sort this out. They grow incredibly quickly at this time of year, and have obviously got ahead of us. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic location beautiful house."

lovely village and superbly friendly locals with friendly hallos. After 3 days travelling we had linen that needed washing. The only place to hangout clothes (other than use the drying facility of the washing machine) was on the airer and there was no iron.......The cushions for the garden furniture are incredibly marked/dirty. We did not see the cleaning crew, so could not pass this information on.

Thanks for your feedback and glad you liked the house and enjoyed Goleen. There is an iron, ironing board and two bigger air dryers in the porch off the back sitting room. Thanks for letting us know that it's not obvious they are there. We will make sure guests are directed to them in the printed material at the house. Property Owner

Still clean and comfortable, peaceful and relaxing in it's beautiful setting. But the bathrooms are better and the kitchen has more work top space as they have all been done up since our last visit. It is well equipped, we bring two cars each time, park without any problem. We hope to come back again. Thanks

Thanks Elizabeth, glad you had a good stay and you’re pleased with the work we have done. Hope to see you back soon! Property Owner

  • "We have just got back from a wonderful stay at The Schooner."

Wow - what a beautiful house in such a beautiful place. Apparently the owners have just refurbished the bathrooms and kitchen so the facilities are modern up to date and the whole place was spotlessly clean throughout. You can see the Fastnet lighthouse from the window in the master bedroom, there are two sitting rooms and a huge deck looking out over fields an out to the sea. This fabulous house is set in a lovely big garden and there is a path all the way down the land into the village, so it’s quick and safe to get down to Goleen. I couldn’t recommend it more highly, we will definitely be back again this year and next.

Thank you so much for this lovely feedback. We're always pleased when people have a good time at The Schooner. Yes the bathrooms and kitchen were new in over the Winter - delighted they met with you approval. Property Owner

  • "The Schooner is a lovely holiday home with very nice views of the sea and is located in a quiet area and not very far from the village."

It is well equipped with a washing machine and dryer as well as dishwashers. The fridge didn't quite keep things as cold as I would like though. The availability of wifi is a bonus and an absolute necessity when you have a teenager with with! The beds were very comfortable with decent mattresses which is unusual in holiday lets! The garden is large with enough space for anyone with young children but I did find the parking space too small with a number of manoeuvres needed to get in and out. The area in general is one which I know fairly well and the house is well placed to visit the many towns in West Cork with ease. A great chip van in Golleen is recommended for lovely fresh and well cooked fish and chips!

Thanks for your lovely feedback. We have a new fridge in place now - it is bigger and it keeps everything cold. Apologies that the last one wasn't quite cold enough. Property Owner

  • "My husband and I have just spent two fabulous weeks staying in 'The Schooner' on the Mizen Peninsula and what a wonderful holiday it was!"

The cottage is spacious, light and airy, with fantastic views overlooking the sea and even the Fastnet Lighthouse from our bedroom window! The raised decking with comfortable outdoor furniture, was a great place to sit with a glass of wine and appreciate this view, even in October but if the weather got a little too cold (or wet) there is a sun room that shares the same view. The cottage has extensive, private grounds, making it a quiet 'get-away-from-it-all' holiday without being isolated, as the Mizen village of Goleen is only a ten minute walk away (most of this through the owners' property and then along nice, quiet country lanes) where there is a butcher's shop, Post Office, General Food Store, Tourist Information, several pubs and the very fine restaurant, The Heron's Cove. 'The Schooner' has a well-equipped, large kitchen with plenty of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans and has a well-stocked towel cupboard, so no shortage of fresh towels. The large, bright sitting room with a wood-burning stove, was a great place to get settled at night and this room has a long table with benches, which would be ideal for playing board games as a family. There is also a cozy sitting room off the kitchen, which has large comfy sofas and a coal fire. In the bedroom there was ample cupboard and wardrobe space and our bed and pillows were very comfy and we were offered fresh linen at the end of our first week. We found the cottage to be very warm and toasty, even on quite chilly days. The central heating heats the house quickly and when turned off, the house retains the heat very well. The bathroom downstairs has a bath and shower and the shower has a powerful jet. The upstairs bathroom has a bath and twin basins and a large well-lit mirror, which we found an added bonus, as the bathroom lighting in most holiday cottages is quite poor. We found 'The Schooner' a gem of a cottage to stay in, not only because of its situation and the fact that it is a beautiful cottage to relax and unwind in but also because of Brian, who was there to greet us, show us around the cottage and explain things to us and was full of interesting information about the Mizen and South West Cork but also because he went out of his way to help us with any queries we had during our stay and was ever so helpful and very friendly. All round, 'The Schooner' is a winner!

The house is absolutely wonderful with everything we needed for a very relaxing and comfortable stay. The house was clean and tidy and has excellent facilities with very comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen is excellent with everything you need to make good meals and a very nice eating area in both the kitchen and the dining room. The back patio is wonderful for those days that you can sit outside and has lovely views to the sea nearby. The general location is beautiful with Goleen village easily and safely within walking distance to the house. Both Jane and Brian provided plenty of good recommendations to see in the locality for day trips and fine places to eat out in. All in all this was a fabulous place to stay and we would highly recommend it. We enjoyed it so much we have already put a deposit down on a return visit next year.

Very peaceful and relaxing cottage. The one and only thing we found that would need addressing is towels. There was only one towel provided per person which meant we had to wash every other day. Not a major problem but it would be good to have more especially for families etc. Schooner cottage is definitely one of the best cottages we have stayed in. 10 out of 10 for location, view, amenities and relaxation.
