But I wouldn't have a problem staying there again I just hope the problems are sorted out .

Had to wade through water with our luggage to get to the front door. Asked for a stair gate as we had small children, but it was broken. Cobwebs in all rooms. Washing machine and tumble dryer very old and not really fit for purpose. Otherwise it was a nice big house but needs updating.

However some lights need fixing, some furniture and appliances need upgrading especially dryer. Could be cleaner, kitchen cupboards, crockery, delph etc. mouldy bread found in one kitchen cupboard on arrival. Welcome starter pack for open fire as listed in add non existent. A welcome pack to include tea/coffee sachets and some basics would be helpful.

  • "This is a fabulous holiday home with great living and bedroom accommodation."

It’s possibly one of the best holiday homes we’ve stayed in. There are a few things that need addressing though (making sure all lights are working, cleanliness is only 90%, kitchen chairs need to be glued as they’ve become unstable). I would certainly use this property again in the future. The proprietor was also very attentive and addressed all our needs immediately and without and hesitation. If the little things are addressed this house is perfect.

  • "Cottage OK, but far from usual Quality of other Sykes Cottages."

All Shower cubicle evacuations blocked. No Shower pressure. Not enough hot water in 2 showers and no hot water in one shower. No coat racks in the Hall, far from enough drinking glasses. One frying pan out of order. Kitchen drawers dirty. Tumble dryer to be used only if blocked by a broom ! No inside drying rack provided. Expired food left in cupboards. In spite of the above and left central heating off, we honestly left 45 euros, which we would find fair to be paid back and/or appreciate other form of compensation Sykes might offer.

  • "The accommodation provided at the house for 7 of us was large and spacious and good."

Location was excellent and parking perfect. However there were many simple and inexpensive things that would have made our stay so much more enjoyable. There wasn't a single hook for a coat either in the hall or in any of the bedrooms or utility room...though there was so much room to place them.7 of us returned home after a day out and there was no where to hang our coats. There wasn't an airier or any hanging facilities in the utility room to hang either our coats or any washing, should we have done any. The washing line in the garden was at a ridiculously low height, rendering it useless...a spillage of water in the kitchen couldn't be mopped up as there was no bucket or mop....luckily we had a huge kitchen roll that we had bought with us! Many of the pots and pans were past their best...and insufficient for a large group. No table mats for hot dishes. No information was provided to help us with the property or location. The boiler had no working thermostat, so it had to be on or off, consequently the water temperature was dangerously scalding!!

  • "Bit disappointed when we arrived and the tele didn’t work but the man who came out got us another."

Mostly it was the weather, causing the lack of signal. The house was great and heating etc was fine. We loved our stay there. One thing needs changing on the details and that is the fact that it says it is 1 mile from shop and pub. Ha ha it was nearer 3 miles and the roads were to dangerous to walk at night. Taking all into consideration we had a great stay in Killarney and would stay at Fernwood again. Lovely man greeted us and the house was beautiful.

  • "Well the moment we arrived ."

The gentleman who met us wasn't the most pleasant person to hand over keys . No friendliness there anyway :) The house was lovely and big and had loads of room but wouldn't have been the cleanest I'm afraid . Shower plug holes were disgusting, cobwebs on windows, broken toilet seat cover in main bathroom & the furniture was so so old !! They could definitely try to modernise it a bit ! I could go on , but I wouldn't think it would make any difference to the owners what I say , The pictures didn't make it look as bad cause if they did we Wouldn't have booked it . If Sykes Cottages want to give me a call I can fill them in on alot more So all in all I would not recommend this house for rent unless you don't mind , cleanliness and decent comforts inside and out ! .

  • "We were very disappointed because after 3 wonderful cottages in the summer of 2018 the expectations were not met which were caused by the description and the photos of the house."

Calculated on the possible sum of 8 guests there is a poor selection of kitchen equipment and the toaster is not really in good condition, just like the fridge, a coffee machine is not available. As described from Faye and Tommy Murphy the showers were still very dirty and showed mold in the corners and the closing mechanisms. The kitchen oven is still so dirty inside that we couldn't use it. There were also no books or games available as advertised. We bought 6 wine glasses for completion. The oil central heating has no electronic control, only hot or cold, and the air bubbles in the pipes made terrible noise and little warm, especially in the upper bedrooms. The costs of "reading" are enormous. They wanted more than 20% additional fees, calculated on the rental cost, only after negotiations these were then reduced to 15%. That means 1214 Euro for 2 weeks and additional 180 Euro for oil and electricity. Compared to a current heating oil price of 0.70 cents / liter, this is completely overdrawn. It is a must to represent this in the house description by numbers, if we had known this in advance we wouldn’t have booked this house. The house itself is beautiful but requires much more maintenance and replacement of some old electrical appliances to meet expectations, especially regarding to this price level. • "There was no fire starter pack as advertised and was not possible to light the fire as there was no coal bucket or fire set."

There was no patio as advertised, no books or games. The décor was out dated and uncomfortable. There was a poor selection of glasses, we asked for wine glasses which we never received. The showers were very dirty and blocked each time they were used. We could not use the oven as it was so dirty. We did not meet the lady that owned the house only her son who checked us in, on check out we pointed out these problems to him. We are under the impression that they have cleaners that come in at change over and there work is never checked (obviously). Nice house but needs a décor update and proper cleaning at change over.
