Location is brilliant. Not too far from Killarney which is perfect. We went with young children and the house was perfect and Una catered for all our needs. House was clean and spacious and outdoors was well kept and the kids loved it. Lots of room for them to run around. Would definitely recommend to anyone with young children:) Just returned from a brilliant week in Scartaglen. Location is brilliant. Not too far from Killarney which is perfect. The house is situated away from the main road, about 400 yards up a dirt track. There is a large grassed garden which is visable from the window in the lounge so it is perfect for families with children. It is surrounded by rolling hills as far as the eye can see and there is an abundance of wildlife which you cannot fail to miss. It's only a short drive to a well stocked shop at Ballydesmond where there is also a post office, pub, restaurant and takeaway. You can find larger shops, restaurants, nightly live Irish music and many tourist attractions in the nearby city of Killarney, which is about 30 minutes away. The house itself appears to be a work in progress as whilst it has been newly renovated to a very high standard, there are some small details that I think are still waiting to be attended to; an over loaded loose plug socket in one of the smaller bedrooms, loose blind cords and a wardrobe in the twin bedroom has not yet been updated. We also noticed an aerial socket in the master bedroom but no TV. The tumble drier is in a separate building which appears to be being used for diy storage as there is a strong smell of oil and paint as well as work clothes lying about. I think this room needs some attention so that guests can hang up wet washing to dry indoors if needed as the owner has a rule that you are not allowed to do this inside the main house. Guests should also be aware that as utilities are not included in the rent, this is settled at the end of the holiday. It seems to be more expensive than England - we paid 115 euros for a two week stay which works out at just over £100. I think that once all of the work has been totally finished and the smaller attention to detail taken care of, Scartaglen will be outstanding and certainly five stars as its in a fabulous location there are lots of very luxiourious touches such as a lovely deep roll top bath and a huge walk in shower in the master bedroom ensuite as well as lovely comfortable beds. maisie989 September 2017 Trip Advisor rating icon full Trip Advisor rating icon full Trip Advisor rating icon full Trip Advisor rating icon full Trip Advisor rating icon full “Spacious comfortable well furnished and well equipped house .” Just returned from a very enjoyable week here - good accommodation in a quiet tranquil spot. From this base we visited Killarney / National Park the Dingle Peninsula the Ring of Kerry and the Beara Peninsula as well as Cork and Kinsale. We had long days out so when we returned to the house we were glad to be able to relax and cook a meal as if we were at home- the kitchen is well equipped for self-catering. The owners are friendly and helpful- they kindly provided a welcoming bottle of wine and put fresh milk in the fridge for our arrival. This south-west area area of Ireland has everything - beautiful landscapes mountains lakes wide sweeping bays and clean beaches.Stunning. This is an excellently appointed, comfortable and substantial former farmhouse (we met the local owner, whose family have farmed here for 6 generations, and who was born in the house), which has now been renovated and modernised to a very high standard. We spent 2 weeks here, and thoroughly enjoyed our time, using the property as a touring base, to visit the 5 Peninsulas, up to Cliffs of Moher in Clare, across to Ballybunion, climbed Carrauntoohil, etc. A choice of 3 large supermarkets, fuel and all amenities within 10 mins drive at Castleisland, Kerry Airport within 20 mins, and Killarney and the Lakes within 40 mins. A great location and a fine property.
