  • "The property itself was wonderful and probably even better than described."

Be aware that the internet is really slow (as might be expected at the edge of the world), but everything else was great. Communication with Sykes was frustrating, and we didn't even get answers to our question until after we had left. On Day 1 we had inquired about what we needed to do upon leaving. On Day 4 we received a response that we would receive an email before leaving explaining what we would need to do. We left 2 days before our rental ended (this was already planned by us since we had to rent for 2 full weeks). We were back in the US before received a response to our original question. This wasn't a good process for us. Fortunately, we used our heads and did what we thought was right to do upon leaving a rental.

We had an amazing week here with family and the dogs. The house has everything you need. Beds are very comfortable. Nearest town is only 15 mins drive. Beautiful beaches and walks nearby. We just couldn't fault the place. We'll definitely be back!!

  • "We were very happy to stay at Crohy Head House and would love to come back."

The house is very modern and luxeriously furnished, has a lot of space and a fantastic view. Crohy is a very quiet and somewhat secluded area. If you are used to Irish back roads, the approach is no surprise (6.5 km narrow back road and at the end 2.5 km very narrow single lane road). The house is new and therefore there are a few household items which are not yet present. Also, the visitor's guide might be a bit more informative. Communication with Sykes was quite easy.

  • "Good beds, pretty furniture, nice view, very good laundry facilities."

In total it was a pleasant stay. BUT: It was not very clean when we arrived - hairs in the drawers , dirty dishes and glasses, handprints everywhere, dirty windows. Some window frames are stuck ,so we preferred not to open the window in the bahroom and in one bedroom. No dishwasher tabs available. Kitchen equipment sparse. We had expected a bit more amenity in the house with regard to the price. Access road long and bad.

  • "Excellent holiday home in a superb location."

House was lovely and clean and very well equipped. The house itself is finished to a very high standard and is extremely well maintained. This is a holiday home that the owners are proud of and it shows in the way it is presented. We stayed with our daughter & her husband & 3 very small children and had a wonderful time here. Even though no baby equipment is provided (which we knew in advance) it is an ideal home for families with small children as it is very safe being a single storey property. I can only recommend it highly.

  • "House Crohy Head is actually a five star property."

It was our second visit after a lovely winter break here. The house is beautiful and the views are stunning. The reason for the one star is the electric gate does not work and as we had several sheep in the garden every morning, whose poo is poisonous to dogs, the property is now NOT pet friendly. While we were very careful with our beloved pooch when he was out on the grass, we think as we were packing up for home , he ingested some of the sheep poo as we had a very poorly dog the following day. He is still under veterinary care but thankfully is well improved. I really don’t like leaving a negative review but it is only to warn pet owners - if you don’t have a dog you’ll have a super holiday here.

stayed twice. Comfortable, clean and warm. Self entry was perfect. Given the understandable want that guests treat the property with respect it would be helpful to reciprocate by provision of basics e.g. washing up liquid / pan scourer / bin bags etc.

  • "The property and location are stunning."

The view from the front drive-way is unbelievable. Just sat on the patio looking out into the bay and the various weather patterns forming and the sound of the sea is amazing. Its a tricky drive up from Maghery on a single track road to find the property, but easily mastered after driven once to the property. Highly recommend exploring around Crohy Head (Tower and the Rocks) and the circular walk around the Head (turning left from the property) and back up through Maghery is excellent. Trip to Aranmore Island was brillant and the Lobster Pot, gastro pub mentioned in the property notes in Burtonport, close to the Ferry serves excellent food. Shopped a few times in the Supervalue Supermarket in Dunglow which was very good. The property is very modern, eco controlled via a heat pump and underfloor heating. It was very clean and well equiped. It worth a trip down to the local Community Centre on a Friday night for Fish and Chips and a drink in the Strand pub. Enjoyed our time at Crohy Head and highly recommend the property.

  • "Beautiful modern bungalow with stunning panoramic view Comfortable beds and sofas and well equipped kitchen (if 6 guests stayed, we would definitely need more crockery)."

It was a lovely holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The standard of the cottage was very good and it was spacious full of light. The dog also loved the cottage and the garden and was fascinated by the wandering little lawnmower. However, their were a couple of little niggles for a 5 star rated cottage which I will mention as honest feedback. I would normally expect a welcome pack, with some milk, local eggs etc, with a welcome letter on the table. This is always a nice touch, and very gratefully received when you can't immediately get to a local shop. The kitchen was well equipped with lots of glasses, cups, teapot etc but many were not within easy reach for my wife and there was no stepping stool. Also, there were a few light bulbs which needed replaced and I know that most housekeepers would check this at changeover. Finally, it would have been nice to have the electric gate working to prevent visiting sheep 'fertilising' the lawn and driveway. However, none of these things would stop us returning or giving a good recommendation.

Absolutely beautiful house and everything has been thought off- down to liquid soap in all the bathrooms- saves a lot of hassle. The owners were easily contactable about a few easily resolved queries. Providing fuel for the stove was also a much appreciated no charge extra- not that the stove was needed much as the house is so lovely and warm. Thanks so much to the owners for everything

The owner did his best, but ultimately we kept being told it should be sorted “today” and it wasn’t, so we were without running water or the ability to have hot showers for most of our 3 night stay, which was VERY disappointing considering the cost of the stay. I expected to be offered some sort of compensation even as a gesture of goodwill, but was told that wouldn’t be happening, which was disappointing.

For people from a city not easy to handle, but this is the only "negative" aspect of our time at this wonderful place. Don't listen to your GPS. Navigate to Dungloe via N56 and use the Falmore Upper Rd from the North to reach the house. The Falmore Upper Road from the south-east take a lot more time and not very useful if you have a bigger car than a VW Golf. Also the GPS calculates 80km/h for the road. This is impossible.

  • "The view from this house is spectacular, the photos really do not do it justice."

We loved the fact we could bring the dog - thank you Theresa and Bernard - it is so hard funding somewhere to stay where we can bring the family pet. The house is very comfortable, you can tell it is newly built. We found it no problem, but that was doing a google street view beforehand and with a bit of detective work. locating the area where the house was built as street view has not been updated since 2011. The house is in a remote spot, but definitely worth it. The website is slightly misleading to say it is the town of Dungloe (which is a 15 min drive away) it is outside a small village called Maghery. There are no shops and one bar. The "cafe" unfortunately closed for the summer while we were there (last week in August) so we did not get a chance to try it. We went to Arranmore Island, Narin Beach, Portnoo and Glenveagh National Park. All worth a visit, though would definitely recommend Glenveagh on a dry day! My only minor quibble with the house would be the lack of kitchen accessories for cooking - no grater, kitchen scissors, oven gloves, however I'm sure Bernard and Theresa will remedy that. Dungloe has an Aldi and Lidl and another supermarket on the main street/corner of Cope St which had a lovely bakery. House would benefit from a BBQ! Looking forward to booking next year, however we see it is already fully booked July 2020 - very disappointed.
