  • "No words can explain how awesome the house is."

Had the best time and this is by far the best house we have stayed yet. Thankyou

  • "We have just returned from our holiday in September."

What a fantastic place. Everything you could possibly want or need. Extremely comfortable, lovely house with incredible views. They've thought of everything. We were very sad to leave and would love to go back one day and would definitely recommend to others. A good price for what you get. Thank you!

  • "I am confident that the property owners "up the hill" consistently received exceptional feedback."

Having stayed in various self-catering accommodations across Ireland over the past 12 years, we can unequivocally say that this one has surpassed all others. The location is awe-inspiring, with its breath-taking panoramic & tranquil views. However, what truly set this property apart was the extraordinary generosity exhibited by the owners in furnishing it. They entrusted us with a wealth of household items, including fine bed linen beautiful towels, endless & high-end cutlery, beautiful crockery, lots of matching cushions, stunning interior decorations which comprised of local artists, and even a very generous pantry essentials such as sauces, oils, tea, coffee to name but a few. The availability of additional household items like ample tin foil, Tupperware, sandwich bags, Sellotape, and napkins, among others, was very much appreciated. Additionally, the basement garage (The most organised Alladins' cave) held an array of items available for our holiday use. We were most grateful by their generosity & thoughtfulness. From golf trolleys and golf clubs to beach towels, beach boards, winter coats, and an extensive list of other items, it seemed there was nothing they hadn't thought of. Having access to these items significantly enhanced our holiday experience. In summary, the level of thoughtfulness and generosity exhibited by the property owners went above and beyond, making our self catering stay truly exceptional and memorable.

  • "This is an extremely well presented property in a beautiful setting with fantastic views over the bay which changes constantly depending on the weather."

Many of our friends are interested in booking it after seeing our photographs. We even saw porpoises one day. The property itself is stocked with all the appliances you could need and we even used an air fryer for the first time with great success. The many beautiful and quirky decorative items and art completed this accommodation. I would certainly go back for both the house and the beautiful scenery of Donegal.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback and we are so happy you enjoyed our beautiful home in Downings. We see dolphins in the bay now and again but earlier this year we had a large number of basking sharks in the little bay below us. It was quite the sight! Property Owner

  • "WiFi coverage needs boosters or mesh network to ensure good signal throughout the house."

Only seating for two on the balcony. Small points against a great stay.

Thank you for your feedback! We have only just managed to get wifi into the house as there is no option here to have phone lines. It's been a journey! However, we are on the list to install fibre optic. This will make a huge difference. We have taken onboard your suggestion of boosters so we will look at that next time we are there. I'm sorry you didn't see the numerous chairs in the garage which you are welcome to move to the balcony during your stay. We don't tend to leave them outside as the wind can be very strong at times and chairs would literally be blown away. There are also folding chairs in the hall cupboard and in the garage... Maybe next time?!! Property Owner

  • "We stayed at Up The Hill for 4 weeks and we had a fantastic time."

It had absolutely everything we needed and more. The house is situated in a perfect location, overlooking the bay so every day starts off in the most beautiful way. It is in walking distance to the small village and beach. Only small local shops and restaurants are in the village but there are main supermarkets around 35 minutes away which is a nice way to explore the area. The house is high quality, very clean and has all the amenities you could desire. We really enjoyed cooking during our stay because as well as the oven and microwave there is an aga, airfryer and coffee machine. The owner was a pleasure to deal with, easy to contact and provided us with lots of helpful information. She thought of everything, there was even thoughts into making our dog comfortable during her stay. Would definitely recommend this property and if we ever return to Donegal we will certainly be staying here again!

  • "The house was just lovely, perfect in fact, with beautiful views from the balcony."

All facilities were excellent including a great kitchen and living area. Downings itself has everything you need with the pub just a few minutes walk and a lovely small restaurant attached to it serving fish & chips and burgers. A good variety of places to eat In the village with a few takeaways. Get your ‘big shop’ before you arrive in - likely in Kilkenny - as the local shop is more for basics. The beaches are just fantastic for kids and dogs. Follow The Atlantic Way - well signposted - for spectacular views. Can’t wait to go again for longer!

Many thanks for the lovely review of our holiday home in Downings, County Donegal. Lest anyone gets confused, I think you meant Letterkenny not Kilkenny!!! I'm very pleased you had a wonderful time and look forward to your return. Property Owner

  • "We are a family of 6 (2 grandparents and 2 kids 10 & 13) and the house was absolutely perfect for us."

It is so spacious well laid out. The decor and finishing date very cool and the owners certainly have great taste. Lots of lovely little touches like the hand written local guides on wear to eat and what to do as well as use of equipment in the garage like golf clubs and boogie boards for surfing. The beds were comfy and waking up to the view from the front room in the morning is breathtaking. The way the property is laid out with the kitchen and lounge out in the balcony is fabulous - I spent most of my time on the balcony watching the weather change and then for the stars to come out at night. As with most places we have stayed there was a few niggles and the owners contacted us starlight away and took care of them for us and checked in during the break to see if everything was well (again a nice personal touch.) All in all we would highly recommend the House on the Hill and Downings as a place to base yourself for exploring Donegal.. the wee town had everything we hoped for and more (bonus of the annual music festival being on and some of the best restaurants we have eaten). The value for money for what you get is a perfect package. Thank you Helen for sharing your lovely home with us Brian
