  • "Amazing views."

Quiet and remote, great for romantic weekend. Place needs some maintenance though. Shower head is falling of, water drain in bathroom sink and shower easily blocks. There is mould in the bathroom - ventilation doesn't work. Place needs deep cleaning. Bathroom 2/5., the rest of the cottage 5/5.

  • "The accomodation was charming, rustic, and in a beautiful location surrounded by the Mourne mountains and sheep pastures."

The host was very nice and met us upon arrival to guide us up the road to the accomodation as the road is narrow and had been washed out due to recent rains. Renters should be aware that rental cars can make it up to the property, but it is slow going and can be a challenging, rough ride especially in the dark. The woodstove was great and helped warm the accomodation while adding to the cozy atmosphere, but make sure to bring your own wood as none is provided. Also be aware that the tap water on location is not advised to drink, but the host provided a water jug for drinking purposes.

The cottage was well laid out but the doorstep had a deep bevel in it concealed by a coconut mat which was a hazard that could be easily rectified.Overall wee enjoyed every minute of our stay and would go back in a heartbeat.

  • "Overall, we did enjoy our stay, and while the cottage is well equipped and in a stunning location, on balance we will not be returning."

The positives were the extremely comfortable bed, plentiful hot water, well equipped kitchen, including a very welcome airfryer. The welcome pack consisted of about 150ml of milk, a packet of chocolate biscuits, and a fruit loaf. The location is great for recharging your batteries, in beautiful peaceful surroundings. The people of Rostrevor and Warrenpoint were all so friendly and helpful, we really enjoyed meeting them. The cottage was also immaculately clean. However, the condition of the access route, particularly for the last quarter of a mile renders it not for the fainthearted. The lack of phone signal, and the lack of safe drinking water should all be mentioned when booking. There was a large plastic drum of water, but we could not be confident of drinking it as we did not know how long it was there. Having texted both numbers to arrange key collection, between Thursday evening and Friday morning, without reply, I then phoned on Friday lunchtime to be advised of the arrangements. We arrived about 7. No fuel starter pack, there were two logs, but no means of starting a fire. Outside light was not working. It was a windy evening, we used the bath mat to block the large gap under the front door through which a fairly cold draught was coming. Other issues were less major: sweeping brush handle kept falling off, toilet seat was not properly fixed, the bathroom mirror was over the toilet, with the shaving light being over the sink on the opposite wall, the handle was missing on bathroom cupboard, chips on cup and glass; the washing machine was not available to us, it appeared to be in a locked shed behind the other cottage; the front steps are very uneven and quite slippy. I did text and WhatsApp these issues to the landlord at the end of our stay in the hope the they would be addressed for future holiday makers, but disappointingly we did not receive a reply to either message.

  • "A lovely peaceful location with views out in every direction."

Ideal location to explore the Mourne Mountains with the Mourne Park wood walk highly recommended. The local ferry across the loch to Ireland is a short drive away. If you want peace and quiet less for the farm animals this is the place for you. One thing to note the final part of the lane to the property is off road non tarmac which may be issue for some. One suggestion is for the property to be signed posted from the main road.

  • "A beautiful little cottage in the heart of the Mournes, a truly ‘get away from it all’ location."

The cottage had everything we needed for our stay with well equipped kitchen and a big comfy bed. Lots of hot water available and good range of outdoor seating from which to enjoy the view. WiFi connectivity wasn’t great but that didn’t bother us, as a matter of fact it was a bonus for those couple of days! We were able to reconnect again once we reached the main road so it wasn’t a problem. We would definitely rebook.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us. We are glad you enjoyed your break Property Owner

  • "The cottage in general was okay but did not find it very comfortable to relax in, luckily we were out most of the time so it was not a big issue."

We had major problems with the water, on several occasions we had none, hot or cold, if we had been aware of this problem we could have planned taking showers better. The pans in the oven were not clean, and I did not think it was up to me to clean them, as a result we ate out most of the time and only used the microwave.

Dear Therese. We can only apologise for the problem with the water. It is not something we have ever experienced before and turned out to be as a result of the warm weather some cattle on the mountain were drinking large amounts of water further up the line. Whilst they were drnking the pressure to the cottage dropped. This lasted maybe 20min to 30 mins at at time. When the cattle had finished grazing that particular part of the mountain the farmer moved them on and the probkem is resoved. I agree you should not be expected to clean dirty equipment and can again only apologise. The cleaner obviously missed these ( which again is unusual) and we would have been happy to have sorted you put with clean pans etc. had we been advised. I am sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. We aim to resolve issues as soon as possible and will try and carry out better checks in future. Thank you for your feedback Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at Mary Larkin's Cottage."

We had beautiful weather which is always a bonus in Ireland. We breakfasted outside our cottage every morning taking in the wonderful sights and sounds around us. The cottage had everything we needed for the two of us. The kitchen and living area was ideal for our needs. The bedroom with extra large bed and ensuite was perfect. We explored the mountains behind our cottage every evening. The drive up to the cottage with its quirky twists and turns just added to the sense of adventure. Mary Larkin's cottage is close to all amenities. We visited Warren's Point, Rostrevor and Cranfield beach a few kilometres away. The ferry from Greencastle to Carlingford is close by. We visited Newcastle and the Ring of Gullion. One week wasn't long enough to see all this area has to offer. I would highly recommend Mary Larkin's Cottage for a break from all the stress of life.

  • "The lane up to the cottage is long, very rough and difficult to negotiate."

The cottage is so small that comfort is compromised. The main television is so high on the wall and in such a small roo it strains your neck. Wifi/internet was only working for a day and a half out of seven. The bathroom: shaving light is on a wall with no mirror, the mirror being on the facing wall and around the corner of the shower cubicle making shaving very difficult. The wash hand basin is a corner one but there is insufficient space to stand face on to it. The surface around the basin is too wide making it a an over stretch when cleaning your teeth. The 2 steps to the front door are crumbling and the mats placed over them create a slip hazard. Being advertised as a dog friendly cottage it should also contain a warning about the sheep and other livestock in the surrounding fields. On a positive note the bedroom is a good size with a large comfortable bed and the views from the cottage are beautiful.

We are sorry you did not find our cottage to your liking. We will investigate your issues and see if we can improve but as im sure you will appreciate all your reccomendations are not possible. Where the cottage is situated you will always get animals in surrounding area. Indeed this is a plus for most visitors. We had a problem with the internet during your visit which was a problem with the Satelite company and beyond our control. We were advised that Russia had knocked the service off for a period. It is now working perfectly again. Property Owner

Our single bedroomed cottage was well kitted out, large comfortable bed, plenty of hot water and all the comforts of home. Cosy log burner in the living room was most welcome, as the nights were unseasonably cold that week. Sky tv and wifi for any wet days but access to the mountain was nearby and many people come here to hillwalk. Beautiful views of Carlingford Lough from the cottage and the area is teeming with wildlife - watched an Irish Hare suckle her leveret just outside. Spotted linnets, blackcaps and a red tailed kite; birds not overly plentiful in our area of Co.Antrim. Not forgetting Nellie, the resident donkey, who loves her carrots. Very relaxing trip, and both Father Ted and Homer the dogs enjoyed it too. Hopefully, we'll be back.

  • "We got the keys On time, the floor was slightly sticky from cleaning products when we entered."

We began by running water which was cloudy/brown in the kitchen. Looked at the toilet and the water was flushing up brown. Shower also the same. Lane way to the property needs urgent attention. Shower toilet could do with a bigger extractor fan as once showered the bathroom was soaking wet from walls to floor for the next 24 hours. The shower door didn’t close properly which led to the water leaking onto the floor. The beds in the room where 2 single beds pushed together which meant when sleeping you could feel the join. Beds could do with upgrading as they where hard. Out the back area was messy from wood ETC. Pictures of the property weren’t overly accurate as outside was messy ETC.

Thank you for staying at Mary Larkin's Cottage and providing feedback on your stay. We're sorry to hear your stay was not as expected. We understand that you had arrived at the property 30 minutes earlier than check-in which would of allowed the cleaning of the property to be finished. Due to the properties location, discolouring may occur however the water is tested and safe. There is also a 5 litre water dispenser in the property filled with fresh drinking water should customer prefer. Condensation can occur in the bathroom if it is not ventilated during use, the extractor fan was tested and working, as well as the bathroom window being able to open. We are unaware of any issue with the shower door, and will ensure this is rectified. The beds you refer to are a super king size zip and link bed, not two singles which are just over a year old, we apologise if they did not suit your comfort. The lower 1.5 miles is made up of a number of occupied dwellings so traffic can be plentiful at times. Cottage done to a very high standard, and due to the weather being lovely, could sit out in the evening. Ideal for access to the hills for walking, my one and only negative would be the last section of road is very rough, so would not want to take a sports car up, there is a small narrow bridge near the end that takes you over the small river, if you have a 4x4 you could use the Ford and drive over the river, (very little water in it when we were there).
